About this property
The Waterwheel - Bayfront Retreat. Kayaks, Fire Pit & Pickleball
One of four boutique units on Black Pearl on Dyes Inlet, a private waterfront compound on Puget Sound — and the most immersive water experience of them all. A private deck that sits right out over the water, with the property's working waterwheel turning just below. Wake to sunrise over Dyes Inlet, soak in your own private sauna, or step straight down to the beach. Original art by Joel DeTray throughout. This is a guest favorite for a reason. Full resort amenities included: private beach, kayaks, paddleboards, beachside firepit, and pickleball court. Coastal charm. Black Pearl warmth.
The Space The Waterwheel is the most spacious of the water-level units — a generous 1-bedroom retreat built for guests who want to feel like they're floating on the inlet. The open living room runs along the waterline, framed by views of Dyes Inlet and the slow turn of the working waterwheel just outside. The bedroom sits apart and feels distinctly romantic — a king bed, inlet views, and a private bath with its own sauna, exclusive to this unit. A kitchenette makes longer stays easy. Original paintings by Joel DeTray bring warmth and color to a space defined by water and light.
Sleeping King bedroom with inlet views Sofa sleeper in living room Sleeps 4
Outside Step directly from your private deck toward the water — the beach, swimming dock, kayaks, and paddleboards are just below. A path around the building leads to the beach access stairs shared with The Loft. Please note the stairs to the beach are steep — use caution heading down. We're happy to build a beachside fire — just let us know.
Resort Amenities — All Included -Private gravel beach on Dyes Inlet -Private swimming dock -Kayaks and paddleboards with life vests -Beachside firepit and BBQ grill -Multiple private patios and waterfront viewpoints -On-site pickleball court -Clamming at the beach -Mt. Rainier views on clear mornings
The Art Joel DeTray's paintings in The Waterwheel were chosen for their water-facing light — tones that echo the inlet just outside the window, bringing the view inside even when the tide is out.
Wildlife You may spot bald eagles, great blue herons, river otters, harbor seals, sea lions, deer, and on rare and magical occasions, orcas passing through Dyes Inlet.
Location Black Pearl on Dyes Inlet is tucked into the peaceful neighborhood of Chico in Bremerton, WA — surrounded by tall trees and lush greenery, steps from the shores of Dyes Inlet. The Washington State ferry terminal is 7.4 miles away, making Seattle a quick and scenic trip across Puget Sound. Silverdale is 10 minutes for groceries, dining, and shopping. Bremerton and Poulsbo are both within easy reach. The Olympic Peninsula, Hood Canal, and Olympic National Park are all under an hour away. Parking is on-site.
Guest Access Guests have full private access to The Waterwheel via its own entrance — king bedroom with private bath and sauna, living room with sofa sleeper, kitchenette, and a private over-water deck with designated parking. Other guests may be occupying other units on the property during your stay. All guests share access to the resort amenities: private gravel beach, private swimming dock, kayaks, paddleboards, beachside firepit, BBQ grill, multiple patios, pickleball court, and clamming beach. To book the entire compound exclusively — all four units, sleeps 22 — please contact us about full compound availability.
Other Things to Note The Waterwheel is one of two units with direct over-water positioning, and the only unit with a private sauna. Quiet hours are 10:00 PM to 8:00 AM. No smoking on property. The beach stairs are steep — please use caution. Life vests are always provided. We are happy to build a beachside fire — just ask.

About the host
Your host
We’re a local, hands-on hosting team behind Black Pearl—focused on creating thoughtful, well-designed stays that feel both elevated and effortless. We spend a lot of time on the Kitsap Peninsula ourselves, and what we love most is the slower pace, the access to the water, and the ability to truly unwind. That’s what we aim to create for our guests—a place where you can settle in, disconnect a bit, and enjoy the kind of stay you don’t want to rush through. While we’re always available if needed, we’re intentional about giving guests space to enjoy the property on their own terms.
Why they chose this property
We chose Chico and the Dyes Inlet area for its unique balance of privacy and accessibility. It’s one of those rare places where you feel tucked away in nature—surrounded by water, trees, and wildlife—but you’re still just minutes from town, great dining, and everyday conveniences. You get the best of both worlds: peaceful mornings on the water and easy access to explore Bremerton, Poulsbo, Silverdale, or even Seattle via ferry. There’s also something special about this inlet. It’s calm, scenic, and full of life—from eagles overhead to seals and the occasional orca passing through. It feels like a true Pacific Northwest escape without being remote.
What makes this property unique
What makes this property special is the combination of true waterfront access, curated amenities, and a boutique, high-touch experience. You’re not just near the water—you’re on it. Guests can launch kayaks from the property, gather around the fire pit by the beach, or spend the afternoon on the pickleball court. At the same time, each unit is designed to feel private and intentional, with its own space to relax and take in the views. We’ve also focused on creating a stay that feels easy—from thoughtful touches inside the unit to being available locally if anything is needed. It’s that balance of independence and support that really defines the Black Pearl experience.
