This house was the perfect setting for our bachelorette weekend. The pictures do not do this property justice! The location was peaceful, yet close to wineries and other attractions. The host was incredibly attentive and made everything easy. We couldn’t have asked for a better place to celebrate!

About the host

Hosted by Cara & Richard

Host profile image
Richard is a sixth-generation farmer and former flooring and home renovation contractor, with a deep appreciation for historic homes and the land. Cara is a graphic and web designer with an eye for detail and design. Together with their two sons, they own and operate the family farm next door and love sharing the beauty of northwest Connecticut with guests.

Why they chose this property

We chose this location because it’s right next to our family farm, which allows guests to experience the beauty and rhythm of rural Litchfield County firsthand. You’ll enjoy peaceful farmland views, easy access to our farm store, and a true countryside setting while still being just minutes from great restaurants and shops, hiking, and skiing.

What makes this property unique

1. Authentic historic farmhouse experience (built in 1802)
Guests aren’t just staying in a house—they’re stepping into over 200 years of history. The Erastus Lyman Home retains its original character, with antique details, gently sloping floors, and architectural charm that simply can’t be replicated in modern construction.

2. Located on and overlooking a real working farm
Unlike typical rural rentals, this farmhouse offers a true farm setting, with open countryside views and the experience of being immersed in agricultural life. Guests can see farm activity and enjoy the peaceful rhythm of the land.

3. Next-door access to a farm store and seasonal flower farm
Having a farm store steps away is a rare convenience. Guests can walk over for local meats, dairy, seasonal produce, and provisions—and in season, experience a pick-your-own flower farm right next door. This adds a meaningful connection to local food and agriculture.

4. Rare blend of historic charm and modern comfort
The home preserves its antique atmosphere while offering amenities guests expect today, including:
-Two gas fireplaces
-Fully equipped kitchen
-Fast Wi-Fi (382 Mbps)
-In-ground pool
-Spacious gathering areas for groups and families

5. Exceptional location for year-round activities
Guests get both peaceful seclusion and easy access to attractions:
-10 minutes to Mohawk Mountain Ski Area
-10 minutes to downtown Litchfield
-Near hiking trails, vineyards, distilleries, lakes, and fairs
-Walking distance to Goshen Fairgrounds events

6. Spacious and ideal for group stays
With five bedrooms and room for up to 10 guests, the farmhouse is perfectly suited for family gatherings, retreats, or multi-generational stays—something that’s harder to find in historic properties.

This is a special antique home, and we consider ourselves stewards of it. We simply ask that it be treated with the same care and respect it deserves and that our house rules be observed.
