UNFORGETTABLE TIMES...500+ ACRES, 3/4 MILE ON PINE CREEK!

A DREAM FOR THOSE WHO ENJOY NATURE AND WILDLIFE ALONG WITH THE WARM PEACE OF AN EVENING FIRESIDE! Stroll along an old railroad bed beside a babbling and pristine trout stream running along breathtaking mountain views. A one-of-a-kind property with more than 500 private acres containing many hillside trails for your exclusive enjoyment--many options for hiking, horseback riding and cross-country skiing or just wandering and wondering.

The flat open areas around the cabin and our full-size barn offer a variety of sites for your private events including weddings, reunions and corporate retreats. Horse stalls are available with both outside and inside shelter. And to get even further away, an extensive variety of open and wooded trails meander across and over the mountain for many miles. And we are just up the road from the north entrance to the Pennsylvania Grand Canyon!

Sunsets bring on a sort of magnetism to our unmatched fire pit where many flames of debate have settled the differences of the past among friends. Of course, there is always another matter called to order for the next evening, or of course you can simply lean back, unwind, and find your answers in the stars...of which there are many! Very far from any neighbors, only the trees will hear your singing and tales, and they will pass along only a few whispers....

Inside the cabin, enjoy extensive hand-crafted woodwork and construction hewn from timbers on the property. Relax in front of a unique and inviting stone fireplace built from stones gathered from the property and surrounded by floor to ceiling windows. The fireplace rises from the center of the room with a cylindrical stack stretching up a two-story atrium and alongside a rustic spiral timber staircase. You won't want to leave this cabin...!

(Doors to the cabin and some out-buildings are monitored by exterior security cameras for protection of both you and us.)

Great Getaway to Pine Creek Farm

The Octagon was a great venue for a Memorial Day Weekend trip of eight life-long friends. Our 47th year! The house was perfect sized and offering room to hang out inside as well as outside by the fire pit. We cooked three dinners and found the kitchen perfect for our needs. Very secluded and no fear of disturbing neighbors with music or yelling during horseshoes matches. The Tioga Golf Club was just minutes down the road and the bike trip down the Pine Creek Canyon was easy but beautiful. A great place.

Something for everyone

Our family made some great lasting memories here. We all had such a great time. This was a really unique rental with many amenities. Between the game room and the property itself there was always something to do. Joe was easy to work with and responded to all my questions in a timely manner. He was very friendly and you could tell he genuinely wanted our family to have an enjoyable trip. Our family is looking forward to coming back again in the future.

We had a wonderful time during our stay! The Octagon was clean and spacious! This was the perfect home to relax and unwind! We enjoyed the game room. We had great star viewing each night on the deck. The large fire pit was perfect for s’mores! We enjoyed exploring the land; checking out the creek, trails, and pond area. Joe was very responsive with any questions we had leading up to our stay. Just a couple notes and why we didn’t give 5 stars- the rooms were a little less private due to gaps from where the top of the door meets the ceiling. There is no place to store clothing in the bedrooms. Some of the appliances were usable but could use some updating. Also, be careful when showering that no one flushes a toilet in the house- we discovered this stops the shower water and then it turns very hot. The trails were pretty overgrown so we didn’t go very far on the ones we tried to explore.

What a great place to gather with family. So much room inside and out to play and enjoy one another! Don’t forget to remind the kiddos to stay away from the cliff headed to the creek!

Nice quiet place for our family group of 9. Could have easily accomodated more.

Nice accommodations for a family vacation with most of the comforts of home. AC was great when the temps were in the 90's. Available firewood on site was convenient. Big custom table inside made for quick meals regardless of weather and also for nighttime games with the kids.

Great location bad for kids

This place is amazing, beautiful location. Loved the pond, the views. Everything was beautiful. However, the inside steps were a death trap and the lack of ceilings didn't allow any privacy and as soon as one child was awake, everyone was awake.

Return to Pine Creek and mountain views

To say this was our fourth consecutive stay at the Octagon is the easiest endorsement I can give to the amazing cabin, property, and hospitality of Joe and Maitland. The mountain trails, peaceful flow of the Pine Creek, generously sized fire pit, and ample cabin space make this an excellent location for our combined family and friends trip each Autumn. A short drive from the historic county seat in Wellsboro, the property is a welcome retreat for us each year - we are already planning our return in 2024.

Exactly what we had in mind.

We loved our stay here. The property consisted of beautiful views and excellent forest to explore with plenty of trails and excellent views. Loved the outdoors and then returning to the spacious but cozy cabin. And the surrounding towns are classic frozen in time USA. Excellent time had by all. We definitely want to come back soon. And great communication from the owner was definitely major plus as well.

Picturesque

The property is beautiful, many trails to be walked and the landscape is beautiful and a sight to behold. The house was beautiful and had everything you’d need to relax. Fire pit was huge and we enjoyed many nights around it. Close to many state parks and although weather was not cooperating much we did enjoy visiting the PA Grand Canyon!! Our last night we did see some stars but on a clear night I’m sure it would be spectacular! Our only down side was the circular staircase but there was a second set of steps outside that were easier to navigate. Thank you for sharing your home with us!

Family vacation

I thought the house was bigger than what it really was. We would have liked the pond to be swimmable. It wasn't easy getting to the creek for fishing and creek walking. We did enjoy seeing the deer and bear eating from the apple trees.

Ideal country landscape

500 acres. Private. Backed up to pristine trout waters of Pine Creek. Had a small and lively bass pond on property. Great hiking on property. The only negative is the very steep spiral staircase from first to second floor. Navigating these stairs This would be greatly improved with an additional handrail to make coming down easier.

Early season family getaway

The property is beautiful but the house overall could use some TLC. It was wonderful having wood on the property to use in the fire pit. The game room was a bit musty. The Kuerig coffee pot did not work. Most of the dishes needed to be washed before using. Overall we enjoyed our stay. It is a short distance to the bike trail which is very convenient.

A very relaxing vacation in a beautiful location!!

Our party consisted of 5 couples and a dog who are all friends. My husband and I had vacationed in this area in the past and absolutely love it. We talked about it with friends and they all wanted to go with us so we set out to find a location that would accommodate all of us along with the dog, where we could ride our ATV's and that was on the water. This location ended up be perfect for all of our needs. We spent a lot of time down in the pine creek as it was a very hot week. We also rode our ATV's up the mountain which was a lot of fun. We enjoyed lots of great dinners at the cabin followed up with sitting around the fire at night. Everyone commented on how absolutely relaxing the trip was which was a priority for all of us. Thanks for sharing your wonderful cabin with us!! We would definitely stay again.

The property and house for healthy young people

This home and property are are peaceful. Renters need to be made aware that the inside stairway has very shallow treads and no handrailing. The outside stairs are fine, as long as the weather is agreeable. We looked forward to creek walking as a family (3 generations were present0. Access to the creek is only by a steep path,. Sadly this interfered with enjoyment by all. We just wish we would have known of these circumstances.

Adventure Cabin In Beautiful Setting

My wife and I had a great time for three nights at this cabin which is about 20 minutes from the town of Wellsboro in a very rural setting off state route 6. The owners were wonderful and accommodating on everything. I contacted the caretaker Charlie who was very friendly and helpful on a couple of questions I had about the cabin. The cabin is very spacious. Charlie even offered to drive us around and show us the area after he got off work, but we were very tired after an 8 mile hike arranged through Pine Creek Gorge Outfitters located just down the road on state route 6. These outfitters were wonderful in setting up a car shuttle for that hike on the West Rim trail and another car shuttle for an 18 mile bicycle ride to Blackwell Village. Highly recommended accommodation which is centrally located minutes away from the "Pennsylvania Grand Canyon" for scenic drives and outdoor activities including fishing and boating on Pine Creek.

What a place!!!

We are 7 childhood friends, who have been consistant on keeping together for the better part of 30 yrs. We found this fantastic location and figured that it might fit us. We couldn't have been more right! The property was very suitable for a group twice our size. Property was remote enough to make us feel like we were by ouselves, yet we were only 5 mins from town. The owner, Joe, was graciously supportive when we had a possible snag in our travel arrangements. We were grateful for his concern. We liked it so much, we hope that they will have us back again! P.S. The highlight of our stay was seeing a large bear in the driveway! Pretty cool. Thank you Joe!!!

Extraordinary beauty, immaculate accomodations

The Octagon at Pine Creek provided a priceless and memorable week for our extended family's vacation. The little village of Gaines, PA and the surrounding area is singular in its beauty and tranquility, and the Octagon is the gem at its center. The hosts were eager to assist and make suggestions before our arrival, as well as during our stay. The entire place - mulitiple buildings and well-maintained grounds - were maintained in superb condition. A couple of features in the house that might present a problem for some groups are the beautifully hand-carved, but very steep and uneven indoor stairs to the upper level (although the outdoor stairs are fine), as well as the open shared ceiling space above the partitions between the bedrooms that doesn't provide much privacy between rooms. As B-and-B hosts ourselves, we deeply appreciate the hosts efforts to prepare and maintain this breathtaking place for our benefit, and to extend such constant help to make sure everything was optimal during our stay.

Our event supported a surprise 40th Birthday party for my wife. Most of our family is split up with distance across state and this beautiful property provided an absolutely perfect stay for them after long drives in. Everyone was super impressed with the accomodations. We were priveldged to use the barn for the actual surprise party and it provided adequate electric, space, and beautiful backgrounds for the decorations and picture taking. Everyone raved about the location and property lay out and my wife was indeed surprised and truly honored to spend her Birthday with her family and friends at such an incredible place. Once the party slowed on day 2, the family and close friends moved to the game room for friendly pool shooting and phooseball competitions and our laughter and smiles continued into the late hours!! Joe and his local Manager Charlie were so very helpful and there were no details missed when it came to helping me prepare and entertain. Even while I was on site they promptly responded to my requests. First class people, first class property! I can't relay enough positives and can't think of a single negative other than Mother Nature one one day. :) Joe and Maitland thank you so much for working with me and allowing me such a perfect oppurtunity to create a forever memory!!

Your search for a place to stay in the northern tier of PA ends here!!!

This is hands down a perfect place to create memories that will last a lifetime. My now husband and I rented the cabin in addition to the barn venue for our wedding day. The location was very spacious, clean, and gorgeous for our farm -to- mountain themed wedding. The acreage that came with the farm created a private oasis for our family to explore pine creek or take a hike in the meadow. The view from the cabin was amazing with the mountains in the background. The last night we were there it was a clear sky and we had a star show as if we were at Cherry Springs state Park! (google it!) I would recommend this place for any getaway, family vacation, small reunion, or if you rented the barn a wedding! The cabin was fully stocked (kitchen and bathroom) with everything you needed for our stay. I recommended doing the $10 a person sheets/towel charge to make it convenient for your guests. Also, bringing extra toilet paper, paper towels, and disposable silverware came in handy if you have close to a full cabin. Cell phone service is limited to Version if you are a AT&T customer you may have zero service. (yes, there is great wifi.) Don’t forget bathing suits as pine creek is right at the backdoor, perfect to cool off on a hot day. The steps going to the bedrooms on the second floor are very steep and awkward (though unique!), assistance is defiantly needed if there are elderly or young children, railing is limited. If you’re not from the area grocery stores and gas stations are miles out so plan accordingly. Also, on route 6 there is a short 35MPH zone (form 55MPH) zone coming from Wellsboro right before the left turn off route 6 that is policed heavily.

Clean - accommodations bedrooms were great, kitchen was very well stocked for the meals we needed to prepare. The house was so unique we were impressed by the amount of room we actually had.The bonus game room was a nice added feature. The best feature was the outside - trails for exploring, creek for fishing, and of course the fire pit.I think the only time we used the tv was to watch the Steelers play. This was truly a remarkable adventure.

Bucks County, PA born and raised, I went south to UVA for both undergrad and grad school, open-minded enough to marry a VA Tech Hokie! Currently living in Richmond, yet I never lost the love for the PA mountains. I find it very pleasing and fulfilling to give our children the opportunity to explore and maintain a connection to nature's beauty and bounty!

Why they chose this property

We have searched the PA Wilds for purchase opportunities for more than 20 years never quite finding that 'special' place until now. We'd love to share this gem with you...

What makes this property unique

This much frontage along a pristine trout stream is a rare find. Combined with the expert country craftsmanship of the interior along with the breathtaking mountain views, this property was impossible to pass up!
