Unfortunately, our stay did not live up to the impression given by the listing or the description of this property as a “home away from home.”Communication before arrival was lacking. The day before our stay, we still had no check-in or access information and I had to contact the host to obtain it.The photos also made the house appear to be in much better condition than what we found. There were dirty/marked walls, holes and nicks throughout, and bathroom mirrors that had not been properly cleaned. The bedrooms were extremely bare, essentially just beds with no dressers or bedside lamps, and the mattresses were rock solid and very uncomfortable. There were also no hairdryers.Most concerning was that we believed we were renting a private house. The listing did not disclose that there was a separate basement suite that could be occupied by others. We discovered this our first night only after hearing voices downstairs. After we had already arrived, the host updated the listing to disclose the basement suite and its separate entrance. Had this been disclosed when we booked, it would have affected our decision to stay here.The host did provide some compensation after I raised the issue, which we appreciated. Overall, however, we were disappointed that the property and rental arrangement did not match what we believed we had booked.
