Things to know about the Rocky Mountains

South Fork is a true Rocky Mountain destination, and part of the adventure is experiencing mountain living. Please review the following before your stay:

• Mountain Roads & Winter Travel: Weather can change quickly at 8,000+ feet. During winter months, snowstorms can arrive unexpectedly. Four-wheel drive or all-wheel drive is strongly recommended, especially when traveling to Wolf Creek Ski Area.

• No Air Conditioning: Like most mountain homes in South Fork, this cabin does not have air conditioning. Cool evenings, low humidity, and opening the windows typically keep the home comfortable during summer months.

• Wildlife Encounters: Deer, elk, foxes, wild turkeys, bears, and other wildlife are commonly seen throughout the area. Please never feed wildlife and secure all food and trash.

• High Altitude: South Fork sits at approximately 8,200 feet above sea level. Guests visiting from lower elevations should stay hydrated, avoid excessive alcohol consumption upon arrival, and allow time to acclimate.

• Cell Service & Internet: Cell coverage can vary depending on your carrier and location in the mountains. WiFi is available, but mountain weather can occasionally impact service.

• Power & Weather Events: While uncommon, mountain communities may experience temporary power outages during severe storms. We recommend bringing flashlights and keeping devices charged during winter weather.

• Fire Restrictions: Colorado frequently experiences seasonal fire restrictions. Outdoor fires, fireworks, and certain recreational activities may be prohibited during dry conditions. Please follow all local regulations.

• ATV & OHV Access: South Fork is one of Colorado's premier ATV destinations. Please observe all local trail regulations, licensing requirements, and designated riding areas.

• Travel Insurance Recommended: Mountain weather, road conditions, and travel disruptions can occasionally impact vacation plans. We strongly recommend purchasing travel insurance for added peace of mind.

• Mountain Living: You may encounter gravel roads, occasional dust, insects, changing weather conditions, and other elements that are part of the authentic Colorado mountain experience.

These unique Rocky Mountain characteristics are part of what makes South Fork such a special destination. Whether you're skiing fresh powder at Wolf Creek, fishing the Rio Grande, exploring alpine trails, or simply relaxing among the pines, you're experiencing Colorado at its best.

Tons of room, very friendly managers/hosts. Quick access to trails and fishing while still being right next to 'town'. We'll stay there again.
