AVOID! I arrived on Sep 25 for a 2-night stay on a cold and rainy night. The entry code did not work and it took 2 hours to get the right one. Within 30 minutes, one curtain rod collapsed and the alarm began beeping every minute to indicate a low battery. After communicating repeatedly with the host, she said she could not fix anything until the following day. Due to the fire alarm chirping every minute, I left and got a hotel. I asked for a refund, but the host refused. Then, on Sep 29, the host claimed 825 of damages to fix a fallen curtain rod.

Hi Fernando, I’m sorry to hear that the stay was not the experience you expected. I do want to clarify several important details for accuracy and transparency. The scheduled check-in time was 2:00 PM, but the guest did not arrive until approximately 6:00 PM, after building management and maintenance had left for the day at 5:00 PM. When the curtain issue was reported later that evening, I explained that I was unable to travel to the property at approximately 9:00 PM because I was located a significant distance away, but I communicated that I would have the issue addressed the following day when maintenance was available. The guest ultimately chose to leave the property on their own accord rather than wait for the repair. The property rules also clearly state that guests are responsible for damages occurring during their stay and that the applicable card on file may be charged. The $825 claim was not a charge simply for a “fallen curtain rod”; it reflects the documented damage to the curtain installation, including damage to the surrounding plaster and mounting areas, as well as the necessary professional restoration and reinstallation. Supporting photographs and a professional repair quote are available. I understand that the situation was frustrating, particularly given the reported alarm issue, and I regret that the guest’s stay was disrupted. However, I also believe it is important that the timeline and circumstances surrounding the damage and subsequent charge are represented accurately.

The property is clean and in a great location. It is close to the Yale campus, right next door to a CVS and walking distance from cafes and restaurants. The bed was not very comfortable but the shower was great. There were parties in the building on both nights but it’s a college campus. I had a few issues that I think the host can fix to make this a better experience: 1. Fix the lock box situation. I was not able to get the key from the box because the code given did not work. Thankfully the host responded to my phone call and was able to give me a code to enter into the door lock. I used that code throughout my stay. 2. Consider investing in white towels and a washable bathroom rug. Black towels cannot be bleached properly so they are not the most hygienic for this kind of situation. I bought a bathtowel to use during my stay. 3. Remove the LED wire lights on the walls, turn them off before leaving, or leave instructions on how to turn them off. I was unable to sleep on the first night because the lights were so bright and the remote to turn them off did not work. I wrote the host during the night. She wrote back in the morning and told me where I should point the remote to turn the lights off. Turned them off for the rest of my stay. Same for the LED light behind the tv. 4. The coffee maker did not work for me. Kept asking me to add more water. Gave up and went to Dunkin. 5. What is the sensor on the bathtub? 6. $$$ but all hotels are $$$ during Yale family weekend.
