About this property

Newly Renovated Historic Ohio Riverfront Home in South Point, Near Huntington

Opening in July 2026

Welcome to our brand-new listing! We have spent the last year lovingly restoring this property. Relax above the Ohio River in a peaceful 3-bedroom retreat that blends historic character with updated comfort. Start your morning with a fresh coffee in the sunroom or listen for the hawk nested in the sycamore tree. Gather in the great room, unwind on the swing overlooking the water, and end the day under soft evening lights.

The charm of this house feels authentic — because it is. The original "old house" was built on the property in the mid-1800s. While the pump house is the last original building standing, pieces of that history are woven throughout this entire home. You will find it in the solid wood of the salvaged front door, the decorative fireplace, and the staircase leading upstairs (to locked storage). It's even built right into the walls—years ago, the owner sat next to his father, knocking the mortar off brick after brick so they could be given new life as they turned a 1960s ranch into a stately home.

But old isn't always comfortable, and we've taken care of that, too. The kitchen has been completely renovated and is well-equipped. The bathrooms are small, consistent with a home built in the 1960s and added on in the 1970s, but they too have been updated; the full bath has been completely gutted and redone.

Enjoy spotting the little treasures from the 1950s, 1970s, 1980s. Pick up an old novel or kick back and watch Netflix—old and new, thoughtfully blended with you, our guests, in mind.

The house is nestled in small-town South Point but only 10–20 minutes from area attractions (including Marshall University and Wayne National Forest). Whether you're visiting family, exploring the area, or simply looking for a place to recharge, this home offers room to slow down.

Guest note: A train track is located about 2 blocks from the property. Thanks to new windows, the indoor space is usually quiet, but you may occasionally hear a passing train whistle. We rarely notice it, but we like to mention it for our light-sleeping guests.

This is a beautiful rental. Gorgeous remodeling, particularly the well-equipped kitchen, yet the home retains its historic charm. Three large living spaces allowed plenty of room for us to relax. Spacious outdoor areas invited us to enjoy nature and the Ohio River views. My wife and I had a comfortable two-night stay. Highly recommended for 1-3 couples or a family. Host was very responsive to any questions we had. We’d definitely stay here again when in the area.

This property has been a cherished part of our family for roughly 150 years. While the home features its original mid-1800s exterior brick, the historic front door, and timeless architectural elements, we have meticulously updated every room to integrate modern comforts. We poured our hearts into preserving its legacy, and we hope you find it just as welcoming and restorative as we do.

Why they chose this property

While there are other rentals in the area, none offer this spectacular view of the river. Our neighborhood is a beautifully established, charming mix of mid-century properties and upscale new homes. It’s a peaceful community where neighbors greet one another, and we love that you can walk to a local bakery, a neighborhood pizza shop, and a park, which occasionally hosts small community festivals. We ask our guests to honor a quiet time, winding down at 10 p.m.

What makes this property unique

Our property sits on a truly historic piece of American frontier. My husband’s ancestor was a frontier ranger who originally surveyed this territory, claimed the land where the Big Sandy and Ohio Rivers converge, and went on to found the town. Beyond the sweeping river views and mid-1800s history, the property is filled with unique discoveries—from the original pump house on the grounds to a curated collection of decades-old furnishings and hidden surprises that tell the story of generations past. Guests love spotting the large, antique frontier-era cabinet secured in the great room nook—a true family heirloom kept exclusively for display.
