Hello architect's house in Erbach - high-end interior, garden - central but quiet
The Hello holiday home is the perfect place for a relaxing getaway—whether you want to enjoy nature, go on exciting excursions, or simply unwind.
This unique property wasn’t always used as a residence. It was completed in 2017 on a plot of land that was once the park of the neighbouring Metzendorf Villa. This explains the historic sandstone columns through which you drive into the basalt-paved courtyard. The Bauhaus-style house matches the villa in height and colour scheme. The owner of the house is a limited liability company (GmbH) that provided staffing services until the end of 2024. The house has now been lovingly converted into a residence, down to the last detail, and offers holiday guests every conceivable comfort and the highest standard of living. The interior design is largely open and airy. Views of the garden make you forget that the property is located next to a federal highway. The soundproof windows facing the street are particularly helpful here. It’s always a special experience to drive onto the property and feel relaxation set in instantly. There is ample parking in the courtyard, and a wallbox allows for charging electric vehicles. The garden is characterised by mature trees—mighty pines, Douglas firs, and swamp oaks dominate the landscape. Between the adjacent villa and our flat-roofed building, an old yew tree and a hedge also planted with yews provide privacy. The rootstock of this yew was secured with sprayed concrete during construction and later revitalised with good soil. In fact, the trees were the main reason for purchasing this property. The dreamlike, idyllic atmosphere has been preserved. The garden is home to birds, squirrels, and—thanks to the natural landscaping—many different insects and butterflies. But now to the house itself. You’ll find two bedrooms, separated across two floors, each with very comfortable box-spring beds (1.80 by 2.00 m); there is ample storage space in or near each bedroom. Adjacent to the upper bedroom is a separate walk-in closet. In the closet, you’ll also find a very large, floor-to-ceiling built-in cabinet that easily accommodates not only clothing but also suitcases and any other bulky items you may have. Two bathrooms, one on each floor, equipped with walk-in showers featuring all-glass enclosures, plus two additional separate toilets, offer every comfort you could wish for. The mirrors in all four rooms are fitted with lights that can be adjusted from cool to warm light, depending on your needs. On the upper floor, there are two living rooms located right next to each other. One is intended more for active relaxation or planning—such as planning hikes or excursions. It features a visually striking square table with a steel top and iconic chairs by Carl Hansen and Egon Eiermann. As is the case almost everywhere in the house, there is also an USM Haller shelving unit here—in red. The living room next door is perfect for more passive relaxation. It features two comfortable sofas, an armchair, and a flat-screen TV. Here, too, USM Haller furniture complements the ambiance—in anthracite. Due to the space’s previous use, a small kitchenette offers both a wide selection of herbal teas and a second refrigerator, allowing you to quickly access chilled drinks and/or “comfort food”—i.e., chocolate—at any time without having to go to another floor. The flooring throughout the house consists of trowel-finished exposed concrete. The ceiling on the upper floor is designed as an acoustic ceiling and made of silver fir. In fact, the upper floor is a Lignotrend home, meaning it’s built entirely of healthy, sustainable wood, including the flat roof. A staircase made of raw steel connects the two floors. The lower floor features a fully equipped kitchen with an island. The electric stove allows you to position pots and pans freely. Please remember to place a pot or pan on the ceramic cooktop after turning on the stove—this activates the electronics, and the controls are intuitive to use. The kitchen also features a freestanding refrigerator/freezer, a steam cooker, an oven, and a Jura fully automatic coffee machine. The kitchen island houses the sink and dishwasher. The kitchen is open-concept and adjoins an equally open dining area; it is separated from the terrace—which features very comfortable chairs around a teak table—by a sliding glass door. Here, you can lose track of time when the weather is nice. The garden offers additional seating areas to enjoy the beautiful architecture and idyllic atmosphere. A utility room with a washing machine, sink, ironing board, clothesline, and access to the utility room—which houses the fuse box, heating system, etc.—adds to the home’s functionality. Heating is provided by a heat pump located on the roof of the building. The ceiling in the basement is made of exposed concrete and still shows the texture from the on-site pouring of the concrete. Due to the trees, it was not possible to install a precast ceiling. Once the scaffolding was removed, the structure was so appealing that the ceiling was not suspended as originally planned, but instead serves as a distinctive design element in the basement.
With its high quality of living and cosy atmosphere, the Hello holiday home invites you to relax. Enjoy a good cup of tea, an exciting book, or simply the impressive architecture—here, you can feel completely at ease.
Thanks to its ideal location, the house serves as a perfect starting point for exploring the diverse Rhine-Main region and the historic cities of Heidelberg, Darmstadt, Heppenheim, and Weinheim. The beautiful immediate surroundings also have a lot to offer. In the neighbouring town of Michelstadt, the old town with its famous town hall is well worth a leisurely stroll. The Christmas markets in Erbach around the castle and in Michelstadt’s old town are true crowd-pleasers. We are located here at the tri-state corner of Hesse, Bavaria, and Baden-Württemberg. This makes excursions to Miltenberg or Aschaffenburg in Bavaria a natural choice. An insider tip is a visit to Waldleiningen Castle near Mudau in Baden, which features unique architecture modelled on Windsor Castle. However, the interior is not open to the public, as it houses a rehabilitation clinic for psychosomatic disorders. These are just a few examples of interesting activities; inside the house, you’ll find extensive literature on places of happiness in the Odenwald and interesting excursions in the immediate vicinity—active holidaymakers will also find plenty to enjoy here. We’re located right in the heart of the UNESCO Bergstraße-Odenwald Geoparks, which is perfect for hiking. The Odenwald Club offers an excellently marked network of hiking trails and biking routes right on our doorstep. You’ll find the corresponding hiking maps in the USM Haller furniture piece in the hallway, in the middle drawer. Another special feature here in the region is the Natourbus, which—at least during the warmer months—stops at various points of interest for hikers and cyclists in the area, so you’re not limited to loop trails but can take the bus for the outbound or return leg of your trip. The buses carry bike caravans and offer popular transport options on weekends and holidays. You’ll find many everyday items in the house. For example, the kitchen is stocked with all common spices, vinegar, and oil, at least a starter supply of coffee beans, and usually also cookies, pasta, dried fruit, etc. Supermarkets are within walking distance. An Edeka, a Tegut, and an organic market are all located within a radius of about 300. In the summer, the outdoor pool in Erbach is a short distance away. From October through May, the indoor pool in Michelstadt is open, located about one kilometre away. The Nord train station is also about one kilometre away; the nearest bus stop is located at the post office, about 200 metres towards the city centre, where the regional train also stops. So it’s also very easy to get here by public transport.
The holiday home isn’t a cheap option for a holiday, but it’s definitely worth every penny. I, Pia, as the sole owner of Hello, have worked in this house for years and have now renovated it with great attention to detail. My heart is set on this house. We’ve already spent some time living there to test whether everything you might need is there— we sat at the little table under the steel staircase with the two warm yellow leather chairs and enjoyed the late afternoon with a glass of wine, olives, and grissini, just as the photo shows. You sit inside and yet feel as if you’re right in the middle of the garden—inside is outside and outside is inside—as the architects so aptly put it. Although we live just a short distance away, we enjoyed our stay of several days as a little getaway with a big impact—it’s really true. Make yourself comfortable and feel right at home—or maybe even better :) and feel free to stop by often. Check-in is via a key box on the building

Danke!
