We so enjoyed our stay at the cabin. It was beautiful and perfect for our family of 6. The outside is so serene, enjoyed my coffee in the morning. At night we did a bombfire, which was magical. House is centrally located to many areas to venture out. We are already thinking about booking for November
We had a wonderful time in this beautiful home!
The deck is fabulous with a beautiful view, the beds are comfortable, and the kitchen had everything we needed to cook meals.
We came up to mountains to escape heat and this place was perfect! Super-stocked with lots of nice touches. The owners know what they’re doing!
This will be our go-to for this area!

Wonderful Cabin!
Kay's cabin was wonderful for our stay. It was very clean and cozy. The kitchen has everything you need from a crockpot to a coffee grinder. Wish the weather had been nicer on Saturday evening to enjoy the fire pit. Short drive to some awesome hiking trails!
Highly recommend and will stay here again!
This place was amazing! Had everything you might need. The cabin was beautiful, the grounds were well cared for. I only wish we stayed a week instead of 2 nights. I loved the smell of pine in the cabin! The gas fireplaces were great for the chilly damp nights. Would love to go back!
This was our third year to stay in Jonas Ridge. The property never disappoints! The owner pays attention to detail and the property is always well maintained. We particularly enjoyed the secluded location this year. The decor of the cabin always makes staying there a treat. Hope we will have the opportunity to visit again.
My husband and I loved this cabin. We've stayed at several over the years and this one was one of the best. It was very clean and cozy. It's close to amazing hiking, skiing and other fun activities. It's also great just to curl up by the fire. Beautiful. We will be back!

Beautiful property!
Loved staying at this property for the Christmas holiday! Although we were hoping for better weather to do some snowboarding (it was unseasonably warm and very rainy), the house was still a great, quiet place to relax and get away from the city. Our German Shepherd loved exploring the large backyard and trails. Would love to stay again in the future (hopefully with better weather)!
This was our second time to stay here, and I feel sure it won’t be our last. This is such a well designed and maintained property. The owners take pride in it and it is furnished with style and comfort. Everything one might need for a pleasant stay is furnished. Hats off to the owners for their care and creativity.

Quiet and away from it all cabin
We had a great stay at the cabin. The cabin had everything and more. Even though it’s secluded, it doesn’t take but 20-30 min to make it to great restaurants and grocery stores. We explored the trails around Gingercake mountain, such as Jonas Ridge, Hawksbill, Table Rock and The Chimneys. Definitely can recommend this gem. Had a great time.
Kay has a beautiful property and they have expertly set it up for maximum comfort and entertainment. The house and its grounds are immaculate. The location is fantastic if you like hiking biking fishing, going to restaurants and just enjoying the North Carolina outdoors! Would definitely come back to this spot! Thank you Kay!
Beautiful and well kept cabin in the mountains, very near the Grandfather Mountain Highland Games. Beds were comfortable, there was tons of extra bedding for the nicely chill nights, very little insect life inside (but some incredible Luna moths to be found outside!), and a very well supplied kitchen so we could bring groceries and not worry about finding restaurants. It was so nice, we enjoyed just hanging out on the porch in between events and the property owners were incredibly gracious about letting us stay an extra day. Definitely hope to enjoy this cabin again!
We spent our Thanksgiving holiday in this charming cabin in the NC mountains. The cabin is immaculate and very well equipped and maintained. Our hosts were very helpful answering our questions and providing directions. There are many hiking trails, including a spectacular climb up to Table Rock. The location is close to the Blue Ridge Parkway. We spent a fun afternoon at a local winery 20 minutes from the cabin. We look forward to booking this cabin again! Five stars all the way.

Idyllic Cabin and Location
We really enjoyed our weekend at this cabin. It was the perfect size for our family of 4, and being able to close the door to the basement was an added bonus so we didn't have to constantly worry about our one year old falling down the steps. It was clean, comfortable and the kitchen had everything we needed to enjoy our meals there. The location was perfect for day hikes around Linville Falls/Gorge area, and close enough to various towns to venture out for a dinner out. We would definitely rent this cabin again; thank you for sharing your home with us!

Gingercake
We had a very relaxing long weekend. The house was very clean. It has everything you may need if you decide to cook in and the property is well maintained. We enjoyed a local backwoods forestry service road that took us over to the gorge. Very nice ride. I'm sure we will be back. Thank you for letting us use your place.

Wonderful setting, well furnished
What a wonderful rental this turned out to be. The location was great, close to attractions but very private and quiet. The property is tastefully landscaped to blend into the mountain surroundings. The deck furniture is substantial and designed to allow full enjoyment of the outdoor setting. Perfect for sitting with a cup of coffee or glass of wine to enjoy the serenity of the area.
The interior is wonderfully eclectic. The choice of furnishings is comfortable and of remarkable quality for a rental.
As far as what you might need to help you enjoy your stay, it is all there. The appliances, the cookware, the electronics, and even down to quality flatware, I cannot say enough positive about our stay there. I certainly hope to return in the future.
Many thanks to the owner for sharing this wonderful place with us.
Amazing Stay - Host is Wonderful and Accommodating
Kay was great to communicate with, Kay was so flexible in allowing us to check in and out. His cabin had everything we ever wanted in a cabin. The place felt very cozy and very secluded. You truly feel like nobody really is around you. There is so much space inside and outside. The dogs loved the space and so did our niece! The fire pit was well built. Clean up instructions were very reasonable. Decoration was cute and well thought out. Everything seemed to have a purpose. So many games in the house to play with. What a wonderful stay.
Our only single complaint is the garbage rules. We had to haul garbage out on Sunday for over 30 mins until the next stop. This was inconvenient since the place where you normally drop garbage off is closed on Wednesdays and Sundays. Perhaps if they could store the garbage in a room it would be easier for guests?
But it’s a very small complaint and we will definitely be back visiting this location again. Thank you Kay.
We’ve stayed in many VRBO’s and this pet friendly cabin was one of the cleanest. Great location for hiking. Cabin was well stocked with everything we needed to prepare our Thanksgiving meal. The gas fireplaces made it very cozy with a flip of the switch. The property with a fire pit was beautifully landscaped and had trails to explore..
This property was an excellent vacation spot. Everything needed was available to us. If we come back in an automobile we will definitely stay again. Loose gravel and a steep incline made it very risky for motorcycles. Even for someone with over 30 years of riding experience!
We loved our stay in y’all’s cabin, right on Gingercake Mtn. Love the wraparound deck, cabin, yard, and love that it is right by Linville Gorge!

About the host
Hosted by Kay Irvin
We live in Morganton, NC and are both retired. We love to travel, and appreciate most when we are able to stay in a place that has a story, and that has a warmth about it that you just can’t find in a hotel. So, we have finally decided to share our cabin with others and hope that everyone will enjoy it as much as we do.
Why they chose this property
We purchased the property for this home in 1985 and years later, when our two children were in their pre-teen years, we decided that we should have a family bonding project of building a mountain cabin. What began as a family project has turned into our family haven. We enjoy the opportunity to retreat to this special place, where we relish in being on "Cabin Time,'"a time we can all just sit back and cherish the beauty of the mountains and the company of loved ones.
What makes this property unique
This area is to us, the perfect spot. We are all outdoor enthusiasts and this location provides wonderful opportunities for adventures throughout every season of the year; hiking, swimming, skiing, universities, golfing, local southern culture, mountain wineries, biking, rock climbing and being just minutes away from Pisgah National Forest and Linville Gorge. After playing outside all day, there is nothing quite like coming back to the cabin and enjoying a cup of coffee or glass of wine on the deck, taking in the beautiful scenery.
