About this property
Modern, Minimalist, Light-filled Home with Hot Tub Near Catamount Ski
Our modern, light-filled house is like a cabin in the woods, but bigger, with plenty of space and lofty ceilings. The house is located on a private gravel road in a lush, quiet wooded setting, and has a hot tub. There are several stone walls through the property -- great for exploring.
The house has an open floor plan with wood floors throughout. There is a large kitchen and dining area with high ceilings and exposed beams adjoining a bright, spacious living room equipped with a wood burning stove, HDTV, record player and lots of vinyl. Leading from the living room is a large deck with a picnic table, surrounded by trees providing ample shade, perfect for outdoor dining. There is also a grill and a vegetable garden next to the deck.
The house has skylights throughout, 2 bathrooms and 4 bedrooms. The master bedroom has a queen-sized bed and en suite bathroom with a very large claw foot tub and walls of local pine; there is also a private deck attached to this bedroom. Another bedroom has a queen-sized bed with a wood burning stove and a deck as well. The third bedroom has a queen bed and bunk bed and is equipped with toys and games for the kids. The smallest bedroom has a full sized bed. The house is perfect for a large group of people.
Amenities include wifi, large screen TV, Netflix, laundry room, dish washer, microwave, compost, wood burning stoves, a fire pit and a rope swing.
The house is located west of the Berkshire Mountains in Massachusetts and east of the Catskill Mountains, just across the Hudson River. It's a 2 hour drive from Manhattan, north up the scenic Taconic Parkway and one hour south of Albany International Airport. The house is less than 10 miles from Hudson which hosts a farmer's market on Saturday; there are over 75 antique shops to discover, galleries, music venues and many boutiques and renowned restaurants. Fall is a great time to come during the change of colors, with lots of pick-your-own orchards to choose from. In the warmer months there are dairy farms and fruit stands, berry picking, plus trails and waterfalls and swim holes including the beautiful Lake Taghkanic beach, just a ten minute drive from the house.
Catamount Ski Area is a 20 minutes drive and Great Barrington, MA is 30 minutes away. Other places worth seeing are Tanglewood, Chatham, Bash Bish Falls, and the Art Omi Outdoor Sculpture Garden.

About the host
Hosted by Myryah
We are a family of four: A photographer/painter, an editor who works in the home improvement sector, and two young daughters. We discovered this house after searching every weekend for 2 years while living in Brooklyn. We spent 8 months adding onto the house and renovating the existing space, then lived in the house for a year while furnishing it and making further improvements. We love this house but had to move back to Brooklyn for work and school.
We have grown to love the Hudson Valley, it is full of fun activities, especially the nearby town of Hudson. There is a strong cultural vibe blended with a close knit community of farmers, food artisans and do-it-yourselfers. We are constantly running into interesting folks who have fled the chaos of the city looking for a simpler life, or hard working salt-of-the earth people who have been here for generations.
We get our garden's compost from a local stable that offers rides for the kids. In the summer we frequent farmer's markets and fruit stands and have fun discovering hiking trails and swim holes. We are regulars at the local book store, Spotty Dog Books and Ale, and love to catch shows at Basilica Hudson.
In the fall we bake a lot of pies, there are orchards everywhere. It's also our favorite time of the year because the colors around our house and the valley are gorgeous!
In the winter our oldest daughter learned how to snowboard at the local ski area, Catamount, a 20 minute drive.
These are just a few reasons why we like it here, and we think you will agree it's a special place!
