An Artist's Retreat Overlooking the Pacific

Located on the beautiful Northern California coast between the historic town of Mendocino (30 miles/48 km North) and the artist community of Gualala (20 miles/32 km South), this extraordinary 2-bath, 3-bedroom retreat -- all on one level, aside from a sunken living room (1 step) – features incredible Pacific Ocean views from virtually every room. See Point Arena Light House, open meadows filled with wildlife, and magical sunsets. Built by a well-known artist, the home features multiple pieces of original artwork below cathedral ceilings. A level 2 Enphase HCS50 EV charger with a J1772 plug (aka J plug or Type 1 connector) is available for guest use.

Bring food and drink to create a special recipe in the well-equipped kitchen which features new appliances, including a refrigerator, microwave, and range with a convection oven. Enjoy a meal in the adjoining dining area with an ocean view.

The master and second bedrooms are in separate wings of the house, ensuring privacy whenever you want it. The master opens to a deck with ocean views, has a Cal King bed, a reading area, and ample closet space. The expansive master bath offers a huge two-person all tile shower. The second bedroom has ocean views, a king bed, many shelves of books, and a large closet. The second bathroom is next door and features a deep infinity tub/shower with fantastic ocean views.

A third bedroom/office has a queen futon, a desk & printer, and a full wall of closet space.

We welcome children, but the home is not childproofed and some original artwork features tasteful female nudes.

The large, comfortable living room overlooks the ocean, has mid-century modern furniture, a fireplace, board games, and a flat screen TV with Netflix, Max, Disney Plus, YouTubeTV, and Amazon Prime shows & movies available to easily stream (just press a button) via fast, unlimited internet. An HDMI cable is provided so you can connect to your computer. There is no 'regular' television service.

Take an easy drive up the coast to Mendocino and Fort Bragg or south to the Point Arena light house. Enjoy the sounds of breaking waves, see migrating whales, walk or drive to the private 8-mile beach or Pomo Lake, visit Anderson Valley wineries, sample fare at remarkable restaurants & bakeries. Or do nothing...just relax.

Forget something? No worries! A well-stocked grocery store is located in Manchester, 4 miles/6.5 km south. Want a little excitement? Visit the casino/restaurant, tour the lighthouse, or take in a movie in the town of Point Arena, 8 miles/13 km south.

Peaceful retreat

It was so nice to sit out on the decks of the property and hear the ocean waves below. We saw a family of deer, a bobcat and many birds flying around the home and it was so peaceful!

The Artist Retreat

This is now the 3rd or 4th time staying here and it’s my go to property if we’re staying in Irish Beach. Just a wonderfully relaxing place to be, with fabulous views and Karla is very communicative and helpful. Will be back again soon!

Divine visit

This house is truly wonderful, you feel immediately at home, in the impeccable surroundings. The house is perfect...gorgeous view, wonderful sunsets...morning fog. Easy walk to the beach.

Amazing House

We have now stayed at this property twice and it was amazing both times. Incredibly comfortable house with everything you might want for a relaxing getaway, plus the most incredible views of the ocean and surroundings. It’s peaceful, quiet and clean. Karla is a great host and made sure we had everything we needed before we got there. We are looking forward to our next stay already!

Beautiful view Irish Beach

Property was quiet, nice neighborhood and wonderful views plus private beach access. Some art in the rooms have nudity, just a heads up for littles if you have concerns. Wonderful!

Over the past few decades we've stayed at several different properties in Irish Beach and this is by far our favorite. The view from the deck is spectacular and if it's a bit chilly outside, you have the same view from the living room. Everything from the layout of the house to the style and placement of the very comfortable furniture makes for a serene and inviting home. We will definitely have to go back.

Best value at Irish beach

Karla is an excellent host with so much attention to details to make your stay comfortable and memorable. Can’t put into words how wonderful the view is and how pleasant an afternoon on the deck watching the sunset is. Wry relaxing get away for homebodies. Not the variety of activities as in places to the north, plan on eating in. Restaurants are few and uneven. But great store in Manchester to buy all you need to cook for yourself. Bring books and plant yourself by the windows and let go!

Beautiful home. Awesome views. Great family vacation.

As we entered the property, we were impressed with the spaciousness and quality of the home. The panoramic view of the ocean is impressive, even though we were enveloped in coastal fog for some of the time. We stayed 6 nights and had plenty of time to chill and enjoy one another's company. We took a couple of short road trips to Mendocino and Fort Bragg. Those were nice. The home is well equipped and maintained. The communication with our host was always prompt and helpful. We intend to get our reservation on the calendar for next year soon and look forward to our return.

Beautiful place--just note one thing

This is a beautiful house with a wonderful view of the ocean. Lovely paintings on many walls. The owner communicated well and included some nice extras at the house to eat and drink. In light of all of the great features, I'm just sorry to report a problem with a feature we were especially looking forward to using--the hot tub. It is advertised as being available, but at the property you encounter a sign saying that people are forbidden to use the hot tub. Once the owner corrects the listing to remove this feature, I can't think of anything else to be concerned about here. It is otherwise as nice a property as advertized and deserves its consistently high reviews.

Wonderful relaxing vacation

This house is just perfect! The kitchen is fully equipped and stocked with basics and yummy treats and wine are waiting from the thoughtful hostess,. The super comfy beds even have mattress heating pads! Love the beautiful view, the truly special house with beautiful furnishings, lovely paintings and wonderful design. Karla has anticipated anything a guest might need or want to know. We loved staying here and will be back.

Relaxing in style

It was a foggy weekend at the coast, typical to the area and just what we wanted. The house offers everything you would want to spend some hours contemplating the Pacific. Large panoramic windows in most rooms including one of the showers give every opportunity to do so. Everything you need to know about the house is explained with signage (maybe a little excessively so), and nothing is missing. Would definitely come back here to repeat the experience.

Amazing Vacation

Wow! What a treat it was to be able to stay in this spacious, beautiful home with such a spectacular ocean view. Wonderful Irish beach is a short walk or drive away.....with a calorie burning partly uphill stroll back..lol. Loved Manchester Beach and Lighthouse walks. Thoughtful touches and every imaginable kitchen tool and gadget made the stay truly special. Games and puzzles for the kids, electric pads on the ultra-comfy beds, great home instructions and comprehensive area info, well stocked pantry, tasty wine and treats, bathroom supplies and on and on. The master bedroom and bath are awesome---huge, unique and a real retreat. Enjoyed the eclectic paintings, special history of the cozy home and are so grateful we were able to stay here. The lovely outdoor decks look soooo inviting, but a little too windy for us this December trip. We will be back. Wonderful memories...and sunsets.

Beautiful Property!

We loved so many things about this home: the view, the space, the art, the books, and easy communication with host Karla, to name a few. The view outside is constantly changing, and we were pleasantly surprised to see whales almost every day, along with the other wildlife. It was peaceful, spacious, and felt homey. The paintings that adorn the walls, many by the artist Chet Engle, who called this place home, were a huge added draw that gave the home a museum feel as well as being a relaxing coastal retreat. We also loved the huge master bath! The master bed was a little firm for our taste, but we got used to it, and our stay was otherwise so relaxing that we managed to sleep soundly every night anyway (the other bed and futon are softer). The worst thing about our stay, though, was that we only booked one week instead of two; none of us were ready to leave. We can't stop talking about this home, and we would love to return some day. Thank you for a great stay, Karla!

Wonderful respite from the hustle and bustle

We loved the house and our stay; the house is spacious and well taken care of with a great view of the ocean. Deer in the garden visited us each afternoon. Well equipped kitchen. Thoroughly enjoyable time.

Amazing home, amazing views!

As other reviewers have stated, pictures don't do this beautiful home justice, you just have to view it for yourself. The home itself was super clean, well stocked, and the beds were so comfortable it was hard to get up in the morning. I have vacationed at many rentals in Irish Beach over the past 30 years and this home is by far my favorite. It is located in the perfect location with easy walks to either the beach or Pomo Lake, a great little pond perfect for tree lined walks and evening camp fires. The owner, Karla, was fantastic, great communication and provided me with great information and vacation tips. This place is a gem and we already can't wait to go back!

We bought this home because of the calm, the ever-changing views of the ocean, and for its wonderful art and architecture. We live in the Bay Area, which we love, but getting away from the hustle and bustle soothes us.
