This historic home with high ceilings is approximately 1900 sq feet all on one level. No need for a car as you are right in Centro and just steps from restaurants, and a few blocks from the Main Square called the Plaza Grande. You are within walking distance to so many parks and amazing historical architectural sites. A few short blocks away is Santiago Parque where you can enjoy Big Band music and dancing on Tuesday evenings, or just around the other corner is Parque Santa Lucia with fabulous local cuisine. A few short blocks to the English Library for their home tours, and comraderie. A quick walk to Paseo de Montejo as well to enjoy the vendors, and splendor of the mansions of Merida.
We now have powerful Air conditioning in the Living area of the home, as well as both bedrooms. There are fans throughout the home and patio as well. You will stay cool. The AC in the living area is a new 2025 feature.
Enjoy the Queen bed 2 bedroom/2 bathroom home with private pool, and covered patio. Two master suites - Both bedrooms are air conditioned, and ceiling fans are throughout the house. High Speed Internet and wifi extender for the patio, and cable TV are provided. The pool is night lit for a romantic dip in the evening, or to sit on the ledge and enjoy a glass of wine. Truly an amazing location in a safe neighbourhood. The front doors have glass enclosures to help with any street noise although once you step inside, you will find a peaceful oasis, surprisingly quiet for being in the heart of the city. You will find the neighbourhood safe and peaceful - no loud bars near by - although we do have Dzaltbay Cantina, and Negrita Cantina for music nights within walking distance. There are local restaurants - Indian, Sicilian, Italian, and delicious Pola ice cream just around the corners. There is a local school with the children taught by nuns, and sometimes you may hear the sounds of the little children singing songs - truly charming. There is a parking lot close by for those wanting secure parking if you are renting a car although you don't need a car for this location - everything is close. Walking distance to Paseo de Montejo. The bus to Progresso is just up the next street if you need a day at the beach. - Busline is AutoProgresso - about 27 pesos at this time. The kitchen is totally set up for cooks, and there are 3 places to dine. Enjoy the outdoor patio with full dining for up to 8, or the inside dining room set up for 4, or just sit and have your breakfast at the wrought iron stools in the heart of the kitchen. All of the dishes, and cutlery, glassware etc are there, and you will find all you need to make some great meals if you feel so inclined. The bedrooms are separate from one another so that you can enjoy the utmost privacy. The bedroom in the back of the home which is the Spanish room looks out onto the pool and patio, and its attached bathroom can be accessed from the bedroom or from the patio for your guests. The other bedroom, the Moroccan room is close to the kitchen and living area. All have lots of linens, and the showers are walk in. There are lots of hooks to hang your clothes as well as closets in both bedrooms. Casa Lola is a comfortable oasis in the vibrant city of Merida. Our elegant home has numerous antiques and vintage curios from around the globe as well as amenities like high speed internet and cable tv with English chanels to make your stay comfortable and convenient. You will love Casa Lola. The house is close to numerous restaurants, like Apoala and Amaro, and the Gastronomic row of restaurants on Calle 49 just to name a few, and within 2 minutes walk, you can find wonderful Yucatecan, Thai and Italian food. Take a cooking class with International chefs and learn how to make the wonderful food. The shops are amazing and you'll delight in finding lots of wonderful treasures. The most wonderful thing, other than the architecture of Merida, is the people. It is like going back in time in Merida, with warm wonderful friendly people in a safe incredible city, and yet its very sophisticated. SO much to explore in the Yucatan, and Merida is a wonderful base to do that. We fell in love with Merida and you will too.
Please note that most vacation rental homes in Merida often charge extra for electricity to cover the use of the Air Conditioning. The reason is that excessive use can bump the electric bill up to a high charge rate where it remains for months. We do have a pre-occupation with energy consumption, and we are trying to do our part, while at the same time, being fair to our guests. You will not be charged for the 1st - 25 kw of electricity useage per day on average (based on the length of your stay) Excess consumption of over 25 kw per day average based on your length of stay, will be charged and paid by the guest at a rate of 4mxn/kw. The meter will be read on your check-in, and then again on your check-out, and the property management team will collect the electricity overcharge in pesos should there be one. The charge is also to deter guests from switching the air conditioning on day and night when they are out of the house. Please turn off the AC when you leave the house. This is very much appreciated, and in doing this, you may have 'free' electrical up to 25kw per day which is average usage. We do hate to charge anything, but knowing how the energy usage can increase the electrical charge, we feel this is the fairest way for everyone, and helps us do our part.
Take an Uber to Soriana, Walmart, Super Aki, or Chedraui for groceries, or just walk to Santiago parque to the market for fresh veggies. You can pick up coffee and snacks etc at the local Santiago Super Aki as well.
Please enjoy our home. We do have a small library of books, and some games and a Smart TV for those rainy days. We do include cleaning 1x per week, and also a gardener, and a pool cleaning 1x per week. Enjoy Merida, and Casa Lola.

We loved our stay here. It was so beautiful and very central to the most beautiful parts of the city. The property manager was wonderful and responsive.

Casa Lola is a lovely respite in Merida. It is well appointed with everything you would need while enjoying the beautiful city of Merida. Property management was very responsive. A/C splits in bedrooms worked well and we enjoyed the relaxing oasis of the back yard.
Lovely historic town house with a pool. Fantastic location - close to everything. Spent 7 days here and hired a car for 2 days to visit Campeche and Uxmal. Very happy with everything. Host very helpful and communicative. Can highly recommend.

Beautiful house in a great location!
The house is comfortable, beautifully decorated, and within walking distance of almost everything! We did have some challenges with the washing machine and no hot water on our last morning.

A beautiful home right in the heart of Merida Centro!
Two couples spent twelve days here in March. The home is lovely and had everything we needed. The local "girl friday" was always available for anything we needed - which wasn't often. We loved the outdoor patio and pool and spent a lot of time here. Being able to walk to everything we wanted to do or see made this a perfect place for us. Can't recommend it enough!

Casa Lola is a beautifully furnished and decorated property with a private pool and within 10 minutes walking of Merida’s Grand Plaza. The property managers provide excellent support and advice. Calle 66 is pretty busy and noisy but the sound does not penetrate Casa Lola too much. Well recommended!
I have stayed in vacation rentals around the world and I must say Casa Lola ranks in the top 10. Its comfortable, clean, beautiful, and has great energy. Everything is well thought out to make your stay enjoyable. The check-in and out process was easy. Communication with our host was super helpful and responsive. Keep up the good work! I will book again.
The property is beautiful and comfortably appointed. When we weren't out exploring, we spent most of our time on the covered patio or in the pool. Property managers were personable and attentive.
We experienced a little confusion about whether there was an additional charge for electricity (which was not specified in the VRBO listing) but that was cleared up immediately.
Beautiful home, great location, but a few repairs for management to attend to. Also, should factor electrical costs into the rent. Electricity had to be paid in pesos at the end of the stay.

Thank you Charles for the review. I'm glad you loved our home in Merida. Just so you know, I am no longer charging for the electrical charges if guests use 25 kw per day or less. I offer that complimentary so that was an error with them charging you so I am sorry. As far as repairs, the management team will take care of those small items right away. Thank you for staying at Casa Lola and I will welcome you back any time. Casa Lola does have a perfect location and its such a private oasis, so I'm glad you got to enjoy it. Much thanks. Janis
Fully equipped home in a great location less than 10 minute walk to main square. It was a bit noisy since it was on a busy road, but quiet in the evenings for sleep. The pool was a great size, not a plunge pool. You could actually swim in it. The house was filled with beautiful Mexican decor. Only the bedrooms are air conditioned.

Thank you Gisela for the good review. I'm glad you enjoyed the pool and where we are located. It is incredibly close to Santiago parque, and Santa Lucia....pretty well right in between. Also, close as you say to the main square which is why we chose that house. Most homes in Merida have AC just in the bedrooms where its most likely needed most. We have just purchased a new AC unit for the back bedroom. There will be a bit of noise during the day at our house on occasion because you are right in the heart of Centro. It cant be helped, but as you say, its quiet at night when you need it quiet. Sometimes you can hear the children singing during the day from the schools which we find incredibly charming. I'm happy you enjoyed yourselves while in Merida. I would love to have you stay again. Janis
Casa Lola is a bit of Paradise. The high ceilings, floor-to-ceiling French doors, elegant grillwork, charming decorations, and romantic lighting create an enchanting ambiance. The pool and garden are lovely. The French Bakery, Escargot, is just a block over and that became our little second home in Merida. The owner and property managers could not be nicer. For us, it was a sort of writers' retreat. We did our writing on the terrace, took dips in the pool, and went out for dinner in the evenings. We could not have been happier with this experience.
We had the most relaxing stay in this calm and beautiful setting. The backyard provides a peaceful respite from the hustle and bustle of daily life in Merida. The house is large, airy and comfortable. Our only complaint is that the showers need to be modernized - the shower heads themselves are too high up on the wall and it is difficult to direct them. Lots of hot water though. Property management is very responsive and dealt with minor issues quickly. Overall, a delightful stay!

Wonderful home nestled in the heart of Centro Merida
Spacious and exotic feelings in the courtyard next to the pool. Ceiling fans throughout create a breeze where the need for air conditioners is forgotten. Fully stocked kitchen. Ample bath and beach towels. Purified water available in the kitchen for drinking and coffee. Location was excellent allowing walks to markets and restaurants. Irregular for HomeAways but totally normal for Merida’s homeaway is a small electricity charged for you actual use. This was about $20US per day. But totally offset by very reasonable nightly rates. Wish we could have stayed another 2-3 weeks. Thanks for a 6 Star HomeAway vacation.

Thank you Dana for the wonderful review. I'm really happy that you enjoyed Casa Lola. We were really glad to have you stay. I was a bit concerned over the 20 USD that you thought you paid for the electricity, but after checking with my property manager, they took a picture of the bill, and yours was 346 pesos which is less than 17.00 USD for your entire stay, so that made me feel a bit better. That worked out to about 4.25 per day, and not 20 USD. We would love to have you stay again, and thank you for the 6 stars. Janis
Perfect home location for us during our visit to Merida. Lovely decorating of each room. So much personality in this home. We were quite pleased and enjoyed our stay.
The bedrooms are super comfortable with the most cushy beds! Kitchen is quite functional with all the necessities for preparing meals. We enjoyed afternoon dips in the pool on some very hot days!
Proximity of the home to sites within Merida was good. We were able to walk into town if we wanted to or could easily take an Uber.
For getting outside Mérida into outlying areas, the homeowner, Janis, suggested we hire Argel, an excellent tour guide with Yucatan Awesome Tours.
He’s the best! So knowledgeable and such a kind person, too.
We had an incredible time. Our stay in Merida really could not have gone any better.
Well appointed, updated home within walking distance of the Main Plaza and all other attractions. Manager communicated often to ensure that everything was well. Enjoyed the pool, and the well-appointed, air- conditioned bedrooms. My only suggestion would be to install a mini-split in the living room. It is too hot and stuffy, especially since all the windows are sealed, to enjoy the nice flat screen TV with a great choice of English channels. Also appreciated the flawless high-speed Internet throughout the house. TVs in the bedrooms and the AC in the living room would make a great property even better. Charge for electricity was modest at $45 a week, considering that it was the middle of summer and we ran the AC in both bedrooms 24-hours a day. Will definitely try to go back.

Thanks Robert for the great review. I would be happy for you to stay at Casa Lola again. We have been considering AC in the living area, because definitely in the summer heat, that room needs it. We find ourselves mostly hanging out at the back covered patio if its too hot, but we are thinking of adding the AC in the living room when we come down in December. This is something we definitely want to do. I have never thought of TV's in the bedrooms. Something we can consider, but I think of being down there and reading, and when we are there, we forget about TV, but it might be an easy, and nice addition. That one we will think on. I'm glad you enjoyed the house and Merida, and I would be happy to welcome you again. Happy travels. Janis
Completely satisfied with our stay. Would stay here again and have already recommended to friends.
---Pros:
1- Location is perfect. Most everything in the city is within walking distance. We used our car only for out-of-town excursions. Parking spot was also set-up for us!
2- Property is amazing. It's more than I expected. Great lay out. Space is plenty and thought-through. Fun decor.
3- Property manager was very* responsive throughout or stay
4- Tech: good smartTV, WiFi, Stereo, etc.
5- Kitchen: Equipped! Actually. Minus dull-knives and perhaps lack of storage containers for extended stays, this is the best kitchen we've had in some time... maybe ever.
6- Pool: perfect temperature. 4.5? feet deep. Regularly serviced. Easily fits of family for lounging.
7- Thoughtful planning for guests: beach towels, guest book (needs updated), labels, maps, books, schedules (gardener, cleanings, etc), parking, etc.
---LessThanPros (these were not 'problems' but if you want the full picture):
1- Mosquitos were an issue in the second bedroom. Once this was identified, some bug spray & PJ pants solved the issue.
2- Beds are comfy... enough. No pain or discomfort, but we were happy to be back on ours.
3- Check-in/Check-out: the actual process* was easy. Super easy. But I had to 'track down' property manager the day of arrival because I hadn't received check-in info.
None of these are deal-breakers for me -- at all. But I find that different things matter to different people :)
You won't regret staying at Casa Lola. Not even a little bit. In fact, once you get to know the city a little, I'm sure you'll be glad* you scored Lola.

Thank you Juan for your great review. I'm happy that you loved our home in Merida and we would be very happy to have you stay again. I'm so glad you enjoyed our location (yes...its perfect and we bought the house partly for that reason), our decor (so fun to decorate that house with worldly antiques and items) and the layout. It is a great layout for 4 people for sure. Thank you for your comments and helpful hints as well because I can address those quite easily so some new knives and storage containers , and we can keep the mosquito repellant in the cupboard because, yes, sometimes those small annoying creatures show up. We find the beds quite firm in Mexico, but end up with less back pain so they really work for us, but everyone of course is different but I'm glad they worked for you. Our pool is 5 feet deep if the pool is full up to the top, and it is great for a family or friends for hanging around, or for a bit of pool exercises, and I'm happy you enjoyed it. We keep it maintained weekly all year round in case guests stay to keep it fresh and just in case we can get a trip in to Merida. The garden is really an oasis, as is the entire house when you open up the front doors from the street, and I am really delighted that you saw what we saw when we purchased the house a few years back. Please stay again - we will welcome you. Janis
Casa Lola had everything we needed and was well situated relative to Merida center. This is a very comfortable home with interesting antiques, nice high ceilings and a perfect private pool! This is a perfect layout for one or two couples. I’ll stay again for sure!!
The property is beautiful and well maintained, the pool is wonderful and there are lots of great restaurants, markets and other attractions within easy walking distance.
Even though it’s in the heart of the city, the high walls and foliage make it feel like a private oasis.
Every time we had a question, the manager or owner’s response was very quick and helpful.
We really appreciate Janis' support as we were repeatedly delayed by Covid restrictions. We finally had a great holiday in the lovely Casa Lola. Great location for central Merida. Liz, the property manager and her team were excellent to deal with.

About the host
Hosted by Janis Marchment
We are a Canadian couple, and new owners in Merida. We have a hobby farm in Langley, BC Canada and have 2 dogs - Logan and Chester, the 7 lb mighty guard dog, cats, some Rocky Mountain horses (Hollywood and Celebrity) and 2 llamas - Oprah and Harmony, and a peacock named Ravi junior. We fell in love with Merida and all it has to offer, and purchased a home that we can enjoy for only a small part of the year. For that reason, we chose to have others enjoy our gorgeous historic home the remainder of the year.
Why they chose this property
We fell in love with Merida and knew we had to be a part of this amazing city. We love the Colonial facades of the Historic homes, and love to look inside. After renting a few times , we wanted to be right in the heart, and chose the Santiago area for our purchase. We had rented farther out of the main area, but decided that when you want to watch all the activities in the evening its rather nice to not have to walk too far back home. We chose our property because it was so close to all the vibrancy and liveliness in the parks and squares and restaurants which we love, and yet had a peaceful ambience once you open the doors. We named the home Lola quite by accident as the previous owners Pug was named Lola, and our tabbycat is named Lola, so we just began calling it Lola, so Lola it must stay. We love our home for its high beamed ceilings, historic doors, thick walls, and shaded patio and its many charms. The home has all the amenities you will need, and is such a peaceful oasis in this safe and wonderful city. The barrio where Casa Lola is situated is Santiago, and in the morning you can hear the delightful songs of the local school children, and purchase fresh fruit just down the street. The neighbourhood is friendly, and once inside the home, you can't help but feel relaxed, but do go out evenings to the Zocalo and parks experience the vibrancy of the city. There are so many events, and museums and fabulous architecture that you will never tire of this city.
What makes this property unique
Our home is in the best location in Merida Centro. We are just 2 blocks to the Main Square, and just a few steps to restaurants, and parks and museums. Our property is a sanctuary in the heart of the city. You will not find a better location. No need to get a cab home after a late night, and no need to walk for blocks and blocks in the dark in the evening.....everything is so close. Rent a car for a few days (Parking can be arranged close by) and see the local ruins, and drive to Izamal to see the yellow city, or , from our home take a bus to Progresso for the day to enjoy the beach and take the bus back almost right to your doorstep. Its all right there.
