Base Your Alaskan Adventure On A Private, Motor-free Lake!
1400 sq ft 2-level home with all modern conveniences (satellite TV, dvd/blueray, high speed WIFI, washer & dryer, hair dryer, iron & board, modern kitchen appliances including dishwasher and range with Induction cook top). It's perched above one of the most beautiful lake sites around: quiet and serene, off the beaten path but just a 10 minute drive from Soldotna. We are mid-way between the Kenai and Kasilof rivers - both world class fisheries, and a short scenic drive from charming Cook Inlet fishing ports: Homer, Deep Creek and Anchor River. The main floor features a private master bedroom with queen bed, a full bathroom, an open combo kitchen/dining/living area, all with stunning lake views, and a deck, also overlooking the lake, with Gas Grill, 4 chairs with small tables. Downstairs you'll find a bedroom with queen bed (lake view), a half bathroom, and a large bedroom/rec room, with tables, chairs and twin beds. A short downhill walk takes you to the lake shore, where you can hang out at the fire pit, with benches, or paddle the free canoe to explore Hope Lake, and smaller Ranchero Lake via a short canal. Wildlife is abundant in and around the lakes, and we can help you plan your adventures farther afield, including river and marine fishing charters, hiking, wildlife viewing, glacier/wildlife cruises and much more. The owners live a short distance down the lake shore through a small woodlot. They are long-time Alaskans with extensive knowledge of the Kenai Peninsula and many other parts of Alaska, which they love to share! If they are home when you arrive they will be happy to meet you and answer any questions you might have.

Very nice . Four of us stayed at Hope Hide Away while on a five day fishing trip to the area.We had everything we needed and it’s relatively close to Soldatna.
Perfect relaxing retreat nestled in the Alaskan wilderness
This is a great place to stay while in Alaska- far enough off the road to be peaceful and relaxing, but close enough to town for convenience and also somewhat centrally located on the Kenai peninsula. Sitting on the porch overlooking the lake in the morning and evenings was really amazing!
The cabin has everything that you will need, including a canoe, paddles, life jackets. The kitchen and bathrooms are well stocked. It is a great place.
We stayed at Hope Lake Hideaway for four nights and it was a great base for our explorations of Kenai Peninsula. Bill gave use advice on hikes and told us cool stories. The house and grounds were the best accommodations we stayed at during our 2 1/2 week visit to Alaska; the hosts keep all in ship shape!

Robert, it was my pleasure to meet you and your wife and share some stories and experiences in Alaska. Your mention of interior blueberries inspired me to travel north with my dog to check out the late season berry picking. We spent a couple of hours filling our containers, slept in the car and headed home the next day - awesome! Thank you for the nice review and for choosing Hope Lake Hideaway - come again soon!
Super glad that we chose this stay while on our trip. Was very close to our fishing charters and the city of Soldotna, while still giving you a feeling of being out in the wilderness. We loved the canoe and lake. Saw moose and loons. Overall, a superb stay.
Loved the location. It is secluded next to a beautiful yet incredibly close to Soldotna, Kenai, and the nearby rivers. Property exceeded our expectations.
Woodsy out of town location was sublime! The lake, canoe, fire ring, view….all favorite things of ours. It was wonderful to have a washer and dryer. It’s a cozy, spacious cottage with everything we needed. The town of Soldatna was very enjoyable with the nicest people, and the wilderness explorations and hiking was the best. Bill was so helpful and kind…icing on the cake!

Beautiful views with a great location
The views in this home were amazing and I appreciated the convenience to the outdoor activities nearby. The owner was responsive to all our needs and even brought a gift of homemade raspberry jam that was delicious. Thanks for a pleasant stay.

Thanks so much for the kind words and for taking good care of our facilities. We hope you got to see some of the waterbirds (ducks, swans, cranes, loons, grebes, and shorebirds) that were visible on the lake while you were enjoying the deck. Please come back and see us in the near future!

Another very fun, thoughtful and considerate party who enjoyed our lakeside property and left it in excellent condition. We are indeed fortunate to have attracted, without exception, wonderful visitors who enjoy the tranquility, comfort, convenience and natural beauty of our property overlooking Hope Lake. We hope to see you again soon, folks!
My family and I had a great time. We seen a lot of wildlife and the view is excellent. The location is 10 minutes to Soldotna for local shops and restaurants. The host is great with communication and went out of his way helping us find a great fishing guide. We would love to rent this house on our next visit.
We were very pleased with our stay. The home was well kept and had all the necessities. The beds were very comfortable. Seeing the lake every morning and hearing the loons was priceless. Just know that 2 of the bedrooms are in the basement.
We had spent a week at the lake house. It was very relaxing. I miss the loons but did not see any other wildlife at the site. This location is a nice area for day traveling.

Comfortable and Convenient
Clean, warm, comfortable, and conveniently located. Recently stayed at the cabin for a buddy trip of five guys fishing throughout the Kenai. The cabin is conveniently located to town and numerous fishing locations. We loved the ease of access but still felt like we got to experience the best of the outdoors as the cabin feels very secluded and apart of the environment. Highly reccomend.
What an amazing place. Complete with canoes and an amazing lake view! Bill also is the best host! The guy spent his career as a wildlife biologist flying around Alaska so he knows all about the different birds and animals in the area, what more could you ask for in a host?! Seriously I can't say enough good things about this place. Just amazing.
Bill, the owner was great. Met us upon checkin. Cabin is a short drive to Soldatna on a beautiful lake. Cabin was clean and cozy. Not super new or renovated but fit is just fine. Full kitchen upstairs with a bedroom and full bathroom. Down stairs you'll find two bedrooms and a half bath along with washer and dryer. We didn't do anything with the lake but did notice the fire pit and canoe. We would stay here again. Thanks Bill!!!

Cozy home with an amazing view!
As soon as we walked in this home it did not disappoint. The first thing you see as you walk in, is the amazing view of the private lake. The open room format of the living room, dining room and kitchen is a perfect place for everyone to gather. The house was exactly how described and offered everything it promised. We had a great time using the canoe on the lake and even caught a few fish. The deck was the owefect spot to unwind after a day of traveling/site seeing. The house is also close enough to the maintenance to run last minute errands. We would highly recommend this house and hope to stay there again if we make it back!!

Very disappointed
There were 5 of us for 7 days. We were happy with the place to stay but shocked when they charged us outrageous price for cleaning. We broke one cheap wine glass while washing it in the kitchen and owner calmed it fell on the table and cut thru 2 tablecloths and charged for a glass and 2 tablecloths . We washed dishes, floors , counters,
Tables cleaned, And still charged extra hour of cleaning. We are not coming back to that place for sure.

I am very sorry you found our partial damage/cleaning deposit refund objectionable, but I think we can recalculate based on what you said. We try to provide a reasonably high aesthetic standard for our guests, and had a rather expensive tablecloth and waterproof pad underneath. When the unit was cleaned after your stay our cleaner noticed a fairly large wine stain and cuts on both layers, wine staining on the table and a small corresponding gouge in the table top. With the broken wine glass we assumed that was the cause of the damage. From what you said in your review that assumption must have been wrong and it is possible we had missed the damage prior to your arrival and that it had nothing to do with you. In view of this doubt, I am refunding that portion of the charge, with my apology. As for the excessive cleaning, we base our cleaning fee on our normal 2-hour cleaning and prep by our professional cleaner, which is normally adequate, and very rarely charge an additional $25 for an extra hour required. I will also refund this amount as you did your best to leave it in good shape, and in consideration of the misunderstanding with the table issue. This leaves only the total $28 charge including the broken glass (which only comes as a set), and excess WIFI use, which I told you about earlier. I hope this seems fair, as I like for all guests to feel they have been treated fairly. I very much enjoyed our discussions while you were visiting and was excited you did well with the fishing!
This rental has a fantastic view of the lake and is in a central location for any activity on the Kenai Peninsula. The owners were great to deal with and were able to provide information about things to do as well as wildlife in the area. Thank you for a great family vacation.

About the host
Hosted by Bill and Suzy Larned
Suzy (Montessori teacher) and Bill (recently retired Wildlife Biologist/Pilot) moved here in 1984 with 5 kids, and "the intervening years have spun by gloriously, with no regrets leaving the east coast! We fell in love with the dramatic Alaskan Landscape, its incredible wildlife, and its warm, sporty and diverse population. We often look at each other and chuckle at how lucky we were to find our perfect niche here on Lake Hope. Our activities include cross country skiing, skating on our lake, hiking and camping with friends and family, shows (local and Anchorage) music (Bill is a guitarist and singer), fishing, hunting, and traveling (to see our far-flung family, scuba diving in warm waters, and some overseas). We're active with local non-profits.
Why they chose this property
We provide everything you need for a cozy stay, immersed in the ambiance of wild Alaska, but just a 10-minute drive from a friendly town with plenty of well-stocked shops, restaurants, bars, frequent sport and cultural events, and complete emergency services if needed. There are 15 homes around Hope Lake, tucked into large mostly forested properties. The neighborhood is quiet, friendly, with very little activity on the lake itself, with no motors aloud.
What makes this property unique
The property overlooks a quiet, pristine 23 acre lake, with a few lovely homes that fit nicely into the forested surroundings and spaced for privacy. An easy 9 mile drive takes you to the town of Soldotna, with plenty of stores with food, hardware, and gear for your Alaskan adventures. We provide a safe canoe with equipment for a quiet paddle around Hope Lake and a smaller adjoining lake. Immediately below your house is a fire pit with benches for toasting hot dogs and marshmallows, and watching for loons, other waterfowl, Moose, and other wildlife and fish. The lake view 2nd floor deck is a perfect place to have morning coffee, and/or rest in the evening from your daily activities.
