A private suite overlooking a lake, 20 mins from the city, and no pet fee!





23 minutes from Victoria, 23 minutes from Sooke, Blue Sky Retreat is a quiet respite and rest for anyone wanting to get the best out of their stay at the southern end of Vancouver Island. We’re on the edge of the suburbs, on top of a mountain, overlooking a small lake, with Washington State visible and the ocean 3kms away.

We have a suite available on our 1 acre property with:
- a private living room,
- bedroom with Queen size bed
- Your own private balcony overlooking the lake and hills
- your own private entrance
- a kitchenette and private bathroom with shower.

One additional guest can be accommodated on the memory foam full size sofa bed in the living room.

Note: Our Giant Dogs

We are dog-friendly! And we have two giant friendly Bernese Mountain dogs that love guests. If anyone in your party is uneasy around large loud dogs, please see the information further in the listing before booking.

Bringing your Dog
Just include that you’re travelling with a dog in your request. There’s no additional fee for your first dog and $20 if you wish to bring two. Please check the conditions for breed, size, etc further in the listing.
There is a private wild 15x15’ fenced area down at the suite for your pet to use.

The Suite

The kitchenette includes our own freshly roasted coffee, assorted midnight snacks, teas, milk and bottled water in the fridge/freezer. A countertop convection oven/toaster and microwave are also included.

The location is conveniently close to amenities, dozens of restaurants, Lookout Lake Park, Olympic View Golf course, hiking, Galloping Goose Trail, and about 8 minutes from the ocean with many off-leash beaches.

Our Dogs are very friendly!
We share our home with two Bernese Mountain Dogs, Sophie and Teesha. They are very friendly, people-loving dogs and will be very excited to greet new guests. Give them a couple of minutes to quieten down when we come out to meet you on arrival.

Outstanding stay near the ocean—highly recommend!We had an absolutely wonderful stay here! The location is truly unbeatable, offering quick and easy access to the ocean and a fantastic selection of nearby restaurants. It was also the perfect base for exploring the area, being just a short, scenic drive into Sooke.The highlight of the accommodation itself was definitely the bed—it has a great mattress that provided some of the best sleep we've had while traveling. Everything was clean, convenient, and exactly as described. We would absolutely stay here again!

Before we arrived, Doug sent us clear directions to the accommodation and shared some great tips on activities and things to do in the area.We travelled with our six-year-old doodle, and being dog people, we loved being greeted by Doug’s two Bernese Mountain Dogs when we arrived! Doug showed us around the accommodation, explained everything we needed to know, and was very warm and welcoming. The dogs got along wonderfully, and our kids especially enjoyed spending time with them.The accommodation itself was very clean, comfortable, and incredibly peaceful, surrounded by beautiful greenery with a lovely view of the lake below.We were very happy with our stay and would highly recommend Doug’s place, especially for families travelling with a dog. We would happily stay here again!

The suite was clean, spacious bedroom and living room, nicely decorated, very comfortable. Perfect bedding! Enjoyed sitting on the deck among the trees taking in the fabulous view. Enjoyed coffee made with freshly roasted beans - by host! The host was lovely and personable. I will for sure stay here again.

The property was welcoming to pets and I did not notice much of the lake view because we were always on the go when we were there. It was peaceful and clean and had everything we needed. The guest host was friendly and left us alone. I would stay there again and recommend this lovely place to anyone. Thank you for letting us stay there.

My lady and I loved staying here! Everything was very clean and the host was very helpful. His two big dogs were loud but very friendly. We had a private deck to ourselves with a swinging bench-chair that we could see a terrific view of the lake below and the hills beyond. Pretty much anything we wanted to drive to in Victoria was only about 30 minutes away.The parking was snug but doable, between the car and the room was a set of stairs that some might consider to be a bit steep.The owner provided coffee, milk and basic bathroom necessities.If I were to spend another night in the area, I would gladly spend it here again.

This is a lovely place to stay. It was private and had a stunning view of the mountains and a little lake. We watched the sunset from the private patio. You also get the view from the bedroom and living room. We really liked the bed. It was so comfortable that we slept 12 hours the first night. It also had a nice small kitchen with a few goodies. Very dog friendly.

Very comfortable suite and good accomodation for our dog. Owner provided very good directions and was there to greet us on arrival. Unfortunately the weather prevented us from enjoying the deck/patio attached to the suite which otherwise would have provided a private and scenic space in which to relax.

Why they chose this property

Even though we appear to be in the middle of the suburbs, we’re on the edge of natural Vancouver Island, and the view from your balcony directly west is endless mountains and valleys covered in trees, a small lake 30m in front, and Washington State visible due South beyond the Juan de Fuca Straight separating the island from the mainland.

The other side of our home is a garden full of large evergreen trees, the special Arbutus that only grows along a thin strip on the Pacific Northwest coast, bright yellow and deep red trees, and plants that produce flowers across almost every month. Mid April through June is spectacular when Spring restores the garden.

What makes this property unique

Our home has some very relaxing spaces to enjoy nature, overlooking the ocean, lake, and mountains. Yet only 20 minutes from the big city and 5 minutes from most beaches and box stores.
