You only live once. Spend your vacation in our charming, unique and rustic Playa Avellanas Tree House, which includes 2 bedrooms, in upstairs and downstairs apartments, each with ice cold AC and queen beds, all with 1500 count Egyptian cotton sheets, and with 2 bathrooms, and a downstairs living room and fully equipped kitchen.

There is a beautiful, teak wood dining table and lots of beautiful teak and exotic hard woods throughout, with a total of 3 flat screen TVs, with Apple TV & Netflix, as well as very strong and consistent high speed WiFi, for working from home, or streaming whatever you like,

The house is decorated with local art work, with 3 very comfortable extra large hammocks to choose from.

The house is very safe and secluded, with an upstairs covered patio that has two ceiling fans, located outside the upstairs bedroom, and with also a 3rd story loft above the canopy, a BBQ, and beautiful gardens, all surrounded by nature.

This is the perfect place for peace and quiet, relaxation and serenity. The property is all privately gated and on over 1/2 acre. Your reservation includes paid exclusive beach access through neighboring Cabinas Las Olas, and their world famous mangrove boardwalk.

This is an incredible place to observe wildlife, enjoy beach walks and watch superb sunsets, as well as amazing swimming, boogie boarding, surfing, fishing, golfing and so much more. It is only a short walk to the beach out front, as well as lots of local restaurants, bars, shops, and groceries.

Rental cars are not necessary. Taxis, tours, as well as transfers from Liberia airport (LIR), can all be easily arranged for you. Please let us know if you have any questions at all. We would really love to have you here with us in paradise…

Great authentic stay in Avellanas

Very good location for surf beach access. Its nice to see original Costa Rican houses are still available to stay at! The host was great with communication.

A week in paradise

We began communicating with Ben several months out before our vacation. He was very prompt in responding and answered any and all questions for us. When we arrived, everything was set up and ready for us. It was very enjoyable. This is not a five star hotel room, but very accommodating, very close to a wonderful beach and within driving distances of shops and restaurants. It was a great place to stay. If you do go, you must at least take a nap in the hammocks. They are wonderful.

Great Beach Getaway!

Me and a small group stayed at both places on Ben's property. The accommodations were nice for what I have experienced in Costa Rica. The property was a short walk to the beach and Ben's was a very responsive host!

Surf and chill at Avellana Beach

Ben is an awesome host! He went above and beyond to make our stay as comfortable as possible. Walking through the boardwalk every day to the beach was a great experience. We really enjoyed our week there. Thanks Ben for everthing!

March in the Tree House

We spent all of March 2025 in the treehouse. Our host Ben is a great host. Very responsive, checked in on us routinely and was great at making transportation arrangements for us to go on excursions outside the are. The house was clean when we arrived and the bed was very comfortable. The air in the bedroom worked well and allowed comfortable sleep during very warm days. If you are seeking luxury, the treehouse is not for you. It is a bit primitive and minimalistic. But if you want quiet relaxation and want a beautiful covered second story outdoor veranda, this is the place. There were 2 markets within walking distance and so were multiple restaurants and cafes with a bonus gelato store right next door. The beach was about a 20 minute walk on a boardwalk through the mangroves. The boardwalk is a bit rustic and did have multiple trip hazards so care should be taken. But very doable for us. We enjoyed many sunsets on the Pacific shore. We loved our time in The CR. Thanks Ben for a great time away.

A Rustic Wonderland!

The lodging is perfectly fine for a beach vacation, Ben makes the overall experience a 5+! We had a minor issue upon check in, which Ben remedied with sincere apologies. The beaches are beautiful and the upper level deck was a great hang out spot where we spent evenings reminiscing about our childhood. If you are looking for a beach vacation with the basics AND nature at its finest, the tree house is the place for you. Thank you Ben, Chachi and Yoko!

Fun Tree House Property

This house was a lot of fun and in a good location that is close to a beautiful beach. Ben was an amazing host. He checked up on us, gave us excellent recommendations on things to do and places to eat, gave us access to the beautiful boardwalk accessing the beach, and most of all was extremely nice. The house is a fun Costa Rican house also. It has two levels and had hammocks outside. There is also a small loft on a third level. The house is located inside a locked gate, which is nice for security. We appreciated the stay.

Perfect beach getaway

Had an amazing time at Ben's place in Playa Avellanas. The treehouse was the perfect spot to chill and relax while being conveniently located near the beach and near lots of good eating spots. The place is very quaint and rustic but, that's our style -- if you aren't the camping type this place might not be for you as you are close with nature! Hammocks were well utilized by us -- so comfortable and relaxing and the perfect spot to completely unwind. Our host, Ben was so amazing and instantly you feel like you've know him forever. He makes sure everything is taken care of and is such a nice guy!! Things we enjoyed during our stay: - gelato next door - day trips to Pirate's Bay, Playa Negra, Tamarindo - Reina's chocolate shop -- do the tastings!! - boogie boarding...great surf on the beach - amazing smoothies at most restaurants (passionfruit is a must) This is such a great way to enjoy the Gaunacaste region of Costa Rica! Thank you Ben for the most amazing stay...keep in touch!!

Poor condition of floor, kitchen, bathroom, bedding, moldy a/c, doors, overall dissatisfaction wud be an understatement...our driver/friend would not go inside...we intend ask for partial refund...only stayed 2 out of 3 days...if we had an option of relocating, we wud have in a new york minute...we renamed it the Fred Flintsone house....marketing photos not accurate at all, same w reviews- no way 5 stars which were the reviews...we did not want to spend any time there....sorry but true...2 starving cats in yard that we fed, no coffee filters to even start the visit...we left some for next unfortunate guest...really felt cheated...bath faucet sprays you with water...poor shower... We can't figure out how they clean anything. Because the interior of the bathroom walls were a heavy stone, and showed real wear...sorry but true, all of this...we are not picky travellers, but this was the bottom of the barrel...we never really unpacked

Don’t book the property!!

Ok, let’s start with the entrance to the property. The huge wooden gate that you had to open was very hard to open, my wife could not open it without my help and you had to wade through weeds to get to it! Once through the gate the grounds of the property was so overgrown and trash everywhere that made you not want to go to either unit of the property. There was bed sheets and covers hanging on rails of both units and the key was not left at either unit. When contacted by the property manager he knew we were not happy about the property and offered the other unit because it was supposed to be an upgrade. He had to send a cleaning lady to open the upgraded house, she started cleaning and we started looking around the house and you could tell that it hadn’t been maintained for a while, so that is when we knew there was no way we were going to stay there! The property was nothing like the pictures, we are not real picky people, but we do expect cleanliness. We will end by saying that even though the booking was non refundable, the host was happy to refund our money. We had to find another place to stay in the area, but was able to do so with some help from the locals. Ken and Regina

Best Vacation ever wonderful stay

The property was well maintained. It had a cleaning crew that even offered to do laundry for us and clean every day if we needed them to. The place was spotless when we arrived. The scenery in the backyard was absolutely beautiful. There was a lot of space outside to enjoy the scenery. We even had a troop of howler monkeys join us for part of the day. There was also this beautiful bird that started to visit us every day and got so used to us that it would eat out of our hand. Boogie boards on site and an outside grill. Great gelato place next door, Barney and his wife are the best, short walk to the beach through cabinas las olas and a little mini mart within walking distance we got to know the guy there very well also. Everyone we have met has been so kind and so helpful best customer service experience I have ever encountered and all the restaurants around there are absolutely amazing great food which we would not have known about if it wasn't for our host Ben. Out of all the things I could compliment about this property I would say that the interaction we had with Ben was what really made it the perfect stay. He was so helpful in so many ways. He would tell us the events in the area we could go see, different places to visit and where to eat. If we had any kind of issue whatsoever it was addressed immediately. Answered any questions we had. He was so helpful. His cleaning ladies were also so kind and polite. None of them were ever intrusive. We welcomed Ben to sit and talk with us because he was such great company. He's a very kind and thoughtful person and made sure our every need was met with a smile on his face. It was such a pleasure to have met them all. They were all very amazing warm and welcoming people. I would highly recommend staying here. The overall experience was wonderful. We were pura vida for sure. Not a worry in the world. PS I forgot to mention the cats on the property. They were so friendly and felt they were part of our little family. I enjoyed having them there. I felt comfortable knowing they were there to keep any kind of critters away. One more thing, we very much enjoyed the hammocks outside especially the one on the deck each one of us took our turn falling asleep in them because it was so comfortable and peaceful. Definitely take advantage of the hammocks. I really can't say enough about the hospitality that was shown. Amazing place amazing people. Thank you Ben and crew.

Great Treehouse

We stayed at the treehouse for 3 nights and had a wonderful time. The location is very close to the beach and local shops/restaurants. Ben was very good at getting back to me for anything we needed. Loved having the host cats hang out with us.

I hope this helps someone not make the mistake we did.

We didn’t expect luxury, but we also didn’t expect this property to be outright unlivable. While Ben was polite over email and text, our experience at his rental was nothing short of terrible.The layout of the place is interesting, but the cleanliness was appalling. Dead cockroaches on the floor, red ants overtaking the bathroom, and a general sense of neglect made it feel dirty and uncomfortable. I’ve stayed in plenty of budget accommodations in Costa Rica over the years, so I know what to expect—but this was unacceptable.The real deal-breaker, however, was the overwhelming chemical fumes. The concrete bathroom floor had been very recently lacquered, and the downstairs reeked of fresh, toxic-smelling chemicals. The smell was so intense that staying in the unit was simply not safe, especially with our young children. Within an hour of checking in, we had no choice but to leave.When we contacted Ben—who was out of the country at the time—he admitted the floors had just been freshly sealed. At first, he agreed to issue a reasonable refund, but when it came time to follow through, he returned only a fraction of what we paid. The amount he refunded barely covered the cleaning and extra guest fees, let alone the cost of the stay. His refusal to fairly compensate us—despite acknowledging the problem—shows a complete disregard for his guests.There are far better places to stay in this town. If you care about cleanliness, safety, and an honest host, book anything else.

Tree House Stay

Our stay at this charming property was simply wonderful! Host Ben was exceptional! Literally the best VRBO host we've ever had. He was incredibly responsive, friendly, and went above and beyond to ensure our comfort. His attention to detail and willingness to help made a big difference. We felt well taken care of throughout our stay.The property itself had everything we needed for a comfortable and enjoyable stay. The AC in the sleeping spaces was excellent, providing a cool and refreshing environment, which made our nights very comfortable. The hammocks for morning coffee and reading was a really nice touch as well.I will say this after reading other reviews on the property. You are not at a resort! If you require resort amenities this is not for you, but the tree house was perfect for us.You could walk to the beach, but we drove, Ben told us where and how to park and we found it much much easier than had we walked.Overall, we highly recommend this property for anyone looking to experience a charming, rustic getaway with a host who truly cares about their guests' experience.

Rustic Treehouse

The Host Ben is very responsive and kind. I wanted to experience living among the Ticos and we loved it. This place is unique and cozy for the 4 of us girls. There are some minor upgrades needed but we are so easygoing that it was not a bother. We survived a huge thunderstorm and no power for just a couple hours. The property has 2 cats. Also each bedroom has air conditioning and we enjoyed Netflix in the evening. This area is definitely a surf town and several restaurants walking distance. Lola’s was a 10 minute walk. Ben gave us passes to enter via Las Olas in order to get to the beach which was a very impressive walk because we saw monkeys and crabs. At the beac we boogey board and rained a little but that did not bother us. Tamarindo is about a 30 minute drive and that was an amazing experience. We drank, danced and laughed. We met Ben’s friend Jeff and he helped us girl get to know a little more of Playas Avellanas. We ate at La Tia and the Pinto Tico was delicious. I really enjoyed our experience in Costa Rica.

Worth it.

Really enjoyed this tree house. Ben was a great host! He was very responsive to our questions and had great tips for what to do in the area. The actual house comfortably slept the four of us and had ample room for us to lounge and enjoy the weather. I had a great time traveling in Costa Rica, and this location was my favorite!

Great time in Avellanas!

Stayed here with 3 others and found the location to be very accommodating. The location fit our needs with respect to private parking, security, and location to the beach. We were also able to cook meals in the kitchen which added to the convenience. Avellanas is a great beach town and the beach was a short walk away. It was nice lounging around in the hammock and enjoying the scenery. I would gladly go back.

Amazing Stay Beautiful Surroundings

The hammocks were so nice and relaxing. There was even monkeys and parrots in the yard. The beach was magnificent and we really had a great time. I can’t say enough nice things. Ben was such a great host. We will be back!

A wonderful jungle/beach adventure!

Ben met us and welcomed us and showed us around. He gave us great ideas for meals and beach activities, even bringing us a boogie board. Howler monkeys all around in the trees. Two charming cats welcomed us too. The treehouse is a bit rustic but truly a great Costa Rican experience! Our host Ben even joined us for breakfast at the local restaurant. Loved getting to know him!! The mangrove walk to the beach is magical just after sunset and Lola’s restaurante on the beach was a great hangout place with a fun vibe and great food! Highly recommend for the adventurous souls!
