It's 15 minutes to Bromley, 30 minutes to Stratton, and 40 minutes to Magic Mountain. Mt Snow, Okemo and Killington are easy drives. Attending a wedding at the Equinox? 5 minutes and you're there. Off the dining area is a screened-in porch with a dining table for 8 and a view of the Green Mountains. The porch leads to a marble patio and gardens.
On the first floor, you will also find the master bedroom with master bath en suite, a second bedroom, and a half-bath.
The second floor has a large bedroom with three twin beds--two can be turned into a king bed upon request--and a full bathroom with a small but functional shower, a tub and a dressing area. All rooms have hardwood floors except for tiling in the bathrooms and mudroom.
Furnishings, whether new and mid-century modern or vintage farmhouse, are fresh. Linens are crisp. Our home is relaxing, comfortable and sunny, and set up well for multiple couples, a weekend with friends, or a family stay.
Whether you plan to visit to ski, hike, bike, see a play, attend a wedding, or relax and read on the patio, you will find that our home and the area offers something for everyone!

We may be staying in the barn, and we will also offer it for rent. Please let us know if you have a large party and would like both houses! The barn is far enough away from the house to ensure privacy for both parties. This is a lovely home, nicely furnished with comfy beds, thick bath towels, spacious kitchen/dining area, and pleasant outdoor space. Check in was super easy. Property is conveniently located. Would definitely stay here again.
Great house, clean, and fit the bill for myself and 3 friends. Everything you need is provided. Easy to follow instruction booklet and comfy bedding. I should have thought of it before hand because the hosts did ask, but one of my friends suggested grab bars in the shower. If I had known she needed it, I would have suggested it but just as a thought to pass along. Other than that, a great house to stay in.
Great house. Clean. Nice furniture. Absolutely beautiful meadow and setting! Screened in porch. well maintained. close to town. Home matches the description which is not always the case. close to road but noise not a problem.
We had a wonderful long weekend at The Garden House! If was the perfect size for us, was wonderfully appointed and the incredible gardens and setting offered us that dreamy Vermont relaxation we were craving. The location was ideal: right next to our golf club, The Equinox, restaurants and shops. We hiked around Equinox and then did the Lye Brook Falls hike which was beautiful. In addition to that, we enjoyed the many farmer's markets and made wonderful meals with all the goods we collected there. We even saw the most beautiful bear cross through the meadow! We will definitely be returning for another stay!
We had a great experience in this home. The location was very convenient to the dining and shopping in manchester and was a great home base for my family to try out skiing in nearby bromley and stratton as well as killington and Pico. The home was charming, well equipped and clean and the owners were easy to work with. We would definitely stay here again.
This beautiful home was perfect for a weekend getaway with friends. It was spotlessly clean, and comfortably appointed with everything we needed. We loved that every window had a stunning view. I appreciated the lay out with each bedroom being close to a bath, and everything spaced apart so everyone had privacy.
The house is really nicely decorated and maintained. Kitchen well stocked for cooks and the beds comfortable. The screened in porch was great for eating meals.
The grounds are so peaceful and beautiful although you do hear sporadic street traffic. .
Overall, the house was great for us, owners very responsive and the location very pretty and convenient to town.
We had several events during our son's wedding weekend. The house and barn made for a great landing spot between events. We had plenty of room for all of our family. The property was very large and allowed for several sitting areas, both inside and outside. The landscape around the house made a great backdrop for pictures for the groom and groomsmen. The house has everything you need.

A beautiful property with a perfect location
We stayed in The Garden House just last weekend and it was perfect for our family of 5. The entire house was as clean as a whistle. The master bedroom has a gorgeous en-suite with a soaker tub. The second downstairs bedroom was perfect for my mother-in-law with a double bed and the room upstairs had two twin beds for our children with a private bath attached. The grounds were beautifully in bloom with the green mountain as a backdrop. We didn't do much cooking since we only stayed two nights but the kitchen contained everything you would need to make a great meal. There was indoor seating for 6 in the kitchen but a great outdoor eating area as well. The house is located 5 minutes from the heart of Manchester, the outlets and some good restaurants. We ate at Thai Basil our first night in town, which was fantastic, and then ventured to the next town over, a 15 minute drive, for dinner at the Arlington Inn on Saturday night. Jean was a pleasure to deal with and was available by phone easily when I had a question about the lock for the back door. It is a perfect place to stay with a small family.
The house felt “not like a rental” as soon as we walked in. Particularly high-quality furniture and decor in LR and MBR. Nice hardwood floors and radiant heat throughout. Perfect amount of space and beds for my wife and me and our three kids. There were three beds upstairs so a family of six could sleep each kid in their own bed. Very well-stocked kitchen with ample space for family. Nice screened in porch would be great for spring/summer/fall. Owners were very responsive when we had questions about the heat.
Two considerations for a winter stay:
1. Distance from Stratton. We booked late so didn’t have a choice but it’s about a 30 min drive, though the house is only a 2 min drive from the town center so there were plenty of dinner places just a few minutes away.
2. There is definitely a problem with heat in the MBR. When we called owners after it remained freezing for the first few hours after we arrived, owners said “just takes some time to warm up”. We think it took too much time - like 24+ hours from when we turned the thermostat up to when the room got tolerable. Never really got cozy warm at all during the few nights we were there and it wasn’t crazy-cold either. Personally, wasn’t that much of a bummer for us but I could see someone who hates to be cold really disliking that first night - my wife and I just used some extra blankets and slept in several layers/sweats with fleece vests on. Note to owner: if not easily fixable, I’d either preheat even just that BR for a day before guests arrive, or leave a space heater in the MBR. Most importantly, both the other BRs were cozy for the kids.
There’s some other quirkinesses with the place like too-low ceilings leading to the upstairs BR and some weirdness with light switches/bathroom fixtures, but the backyard is massive, there’s a great patio and screened in porch, the MBR is spectacular when it’s not too cold, and the common areas feel more like home and less like a typical rental in this price range. Even with the heat issue, if the place was 5-10 mins from Stratton we’d stay again.

Thanks Michael. We have resolved the heating issue you refer to. We stayed in the house this weekend and were able to test all is working. (MBR is over 70 degrees). We are also installing a Nest in MBR so we can remotely turn the heat up before guests arrive.
The house and grounds were lovely and very comfortable. Spent hours out on the patio and enjoyed watching a thunder storm from the porch. Close to town but a beautiful rural feeling. Everything was great!
From the moment we arrived, this property felt like it had called us to visit! It is serene and breathtaking!!!! It was completely well appointed and other than a washer, had every single thing we could have asked for! My daughter and I were there for almost 2 weeks and it was difficult to leave! We will definitely be back!!!
We loved staying at your home! We are all from Texas and you couldn’t have ordered better weather for us!😜. The location was perfect and so close to town. The surroundings were beautiful and picturesque! The kitchen was amazingly stocked. Thank you…. We hope to return again soon!

About the host
Hosted by John and Jean
John hails from Boston and Jean from Syracuse, NY. They live in the Boston area but come to Vermont as often as they possibly can!
Why they chose this property
Over the course of several weekend getaways throughout the years Jean and John fell in love with Vermont - and they especially fell in love with the Manchester area. When they saw this property they knew it was the one. Beautiful views in every direction, rural in feel yet super close to Manchester cafes, restaurants, an awesome bookstore, and of course skiing, hiking....
What makes this property unique
We love the Manchester area throughout the year. There is so much to do in the area. We love the outdoors. There is also a really neat cultural scene in southern Vermont.
