House was comfortable for the stay and had everything we needed. While close to “downtown” as the crow flies, it was not walkable due to steepness of hills and darkness at night.

For your next visit and future guests: There are countless varied and wonderful ways to walk to town. My personal favorite is very scenic day or night, and not steep. Helens > Birch > Molino > Throckmorton. The redwood trees escort you gently to Old Mill Park where a cathedral of even more redwoods greet you before you turn into town. For those looking for a good workout, the steps pathway system here is super fast. Closest set that drops you into DT on Miller is off Heuters just off Molino around the corner from Helens. Those are the two extremes and there's a bunch in between :)

Wonderful stay in a wonderful town. Just be prepared for the windy roads and be in shape for the stairs and roads if you're walking into town. We loved it.

This is a nice two-level accommodation. The upstairs with complete kitchen, sitting area and dining area is naturally lit and has clear views of Mt. Tam. The neighborhood is quiet. The streets are very narrow and some are very steep so using a compact car makes travel easier. The hot water in the sinks upstairs seems dependent on taking a hot shower first, although the kitchen sink water will heat up after a few minutes. The kitchen is well supplied with the tools needed for cooking any sort of meal and the full-size frig is great. The host is very responsive to messages and supplies simple and clear directions for entry and everything via the vrbo communication system.I have stayed here twice and hope to on my next trip to Mill Valley.

This apartment had all the comforts of home. We enjoyed the comfy bed, the sunlit living and dining spaces, walking into town (all downhill into town; obviously all uphill coming back!), and the fabulous view.

About the host

Hosted by Grace Hawthorne

Host profile image
We have lived in Mill Valley for over 18 years because of the charming downtown, wonderful access to trails, beautiful redwoods and proximity to San Francisco.

Why they chose this property

Helens Ln. is the closest walk to downtown with the priceless view of Mt. Tam. This guest house will be like your home away from home because of the spaciousness and the full size kitchen. Newly furnished with modern furnishings and amenities.

What makes this property unique

A five minute walk or a two minute drive downtown will put you in a sea of culinary delights-- award winning restaurants, gourmet grocery store, excellent coffee and what we call nature's cathedral-- running streams, giant redwoods, chirping birds.
