Tropical Venice East Bungalow Heated Pool Minutes to Restaurants, Beaches, Golf
Welcome to the Date Palm House in the quiet neighborhood of Venice East. Let this be your vacation Home Away from Home.
____________________________________________________________________________
Before we get into the details about the amenities of the home, I would like to provide you, as an interested renter, with an update and full disclosure as to the effects of Hurricane Ian on our home and the surrounding area. Luckily the Venice area was spared of the catastrophic damage caused by the storm in areas just south of us, such as Boca Grand, Ft. Myers and Sanibel/Captiva to name a few.
As for our house, we were very fortunate not to have any flooding or water damage in the home. In fact, the interior of the home looks the same as prior to the storm. While some of our neighborhood streets flooded, our house sits high enough so that no water got into the home. A post storm inspection of the roof/ceiling indicated no sign of active leaks and the home is water tight.
While the storm was quite inconvenient, it did result in the home getting a new and updated screen enclosure, which has enhanced the space and eye appeal of the backyard of the home.
The home is located in Venice East, a Sandhill Crane area. Come enjoy the warm balmy breezes of Florida's Gulf Coast and stay in our 3 bedroom, 2 bath Florida bungalow located in an established, tranquil neighborhood with large oaks and creeks perfect for bike rides and sunrise or sunset strolls. If you venture out and about the neighborhood you are likely to see wild hare, sandhill cranes, wood storks, spoonbills, ibises, herons, etc., all of which make for a pleasant outing.
The home offers a split plan with the master bedroom, which has an ample yet cozy seating area, on-suite bathroom and walk-in closet, located on one side of the house, and the second and third bedrooms located on the opposite side along a semi-private hallway.
The bright airy bedroom that faces the rear of the home has a queen size bed and sliding glass doors that provide a view and direct access to the lanai area and solar heated pool. The third bedroom decorated with a nautical theme faces the front of the house has two XL twin beds. Down the hall from these two rooms is a guest bathroom with a tub.
There is one television in the house, a Philips flat screened tv which is hooked to cable with a variety of channels including radio selections, and a DVD player. The TV is located in the “tv nook” open public area of the house that faces the front of the house. There is also secured wireless internet throughout the house. A quaint place to sit and enjoy the early evening with a view to the front and back of the property. There is new a sleeper couch that pulls out to a full/queen size bed, should you need to temporarily accommodate an extra guest. There is also a matching recliner to lay back and watch a little TV or enjoy a good book.
The galley kitchen and adjoing dining area are large enough to enjoy a home cooked meal or take out if you prefer. The table comfortably seats 6. Both the kitchen and dining area face the rear of the home and open onto the lanai and pool area.
The open concept “Living room/Florida room/“tv nook”, has a fully functional wood burning fireplace, as well as, sliding glass doors that lead out to the lanai and pool area. On cool nights (upper 50's to lower 80's is cold for Floridians), open the sliding glass doors and enjoy the breeze while sitting by the fire.
The lanai area is also a great space to enjoy your morning coffee. Or if you prefer, you can use the propane gas bbq grill provided and enjoy a cookout by the pool.
The pool deck and lanai are fully enclosed with a new screen enclosure. The pool deck is finished with pavers and the pool has a recent refinish. Th pool is solar heated via rooftop mounted solar mats that are plumbed into the pool's existing circulation system. During the daylight hours as the sun hits these special solar mats the water in the pool will gradually start to heat up over time. This is a slow but gradual process that can be done even on days with partial sunshine. Because the effectiveness of the solar pool heater depends on the availablilty of the sun (which is generally not an issue since we live in the Sunshine State and even partially sunny days can be sufficient to warm up the pool water). Other factors such as wind speed, and ambient air temperature, also play a role in how efficient the solar heater will work, but it is not an electric heater so we cannot guarantee or tell you how warm the pool water will get on any given day.
A washer and dryer are located in laundry area that is within the attached two car garage. There is an automatic garage owner fob to use in your vehicle during your visit. The garage has plenty of room for bikes and beach chairs. Beach chairs are provided along with beach towels and even a "scooper" perfect for collecting shark teeth on Manasota or Venice Beach.
If your interest is the beach, you are in luck. With over seven beaches several under ten minutes away, you can be basking in the sun via a short drive. If your interest is golf, Venice East is where you want to be. Less than two minutes from the property is the Venice East Golf Course with affordable rates. If you are a shopper, like me, then you will be in heaven. With major department stores, as well as local shops, consignment stores and two outlet malls nearby, you will not believe the deals you will find! Whatever your interest, we want you to relax and feel at home, in your rental home away from home!

About the host
Hosted by Tim & Josie van Hemert
Josie and I are native Floridians having both grownup in Miami, where we still maintain our residence. We are fans of the beach and are always looking for opportunities to enjoy all of the benefits that our State has to offer. We have always enjoyed the Gulf Coast and our purchase of the "Date Palm House' is the fulfillment of our dream of having a place to enjoy now and for many years to come.
Why they chose this property
We have been coming to the West Coast of Florida for many years going back as far as the 1960;s when my parent s used to take me to Sarasota for vacation. Later Josie and I would regularly take trips to the "left coast" as we enjoy the beautiful beaches, the outdoor activities and just the easy pace of life here. That is why we pursued a place in Venice. As for the Date Palm House it offers everything you could need to enjoy the Southwest Florida - large open areas with lots of natural light. The back yard is fully enclosed with a privacy fence, and the pool, which is solar heated (solar mechanism is not like the electric heaters where you can guarantee a temperature by electrically heating the water, but even on cooler days, in sunny Florida, the solar heater works to adequately raise the temperature of the pool water) is within the fully screened Lanai. Located in the Living Room the fireplace is wood burning.
We love Venice East. It is a friendly neighborhood with quiet streets where people are out walking their dogs or riding their bikes, with very little traffic moving through the neighborhood. The house itself was built in 1980 and has a great layout. Although 1,654 sq. ft. it feels even bigger, with spacious bed rooms and living areas. The furnishings give a tropical Tommy Bahama type vibe, which complements the easy pace of life in Venice. Last but not least, is the tropical native landscape including the large Date Palm, from which the house gets its name. The area is very tranquil and it’s not uncommon to see a bunny in the yard or a Sandhill Crane strolling across the grass, when walking throughout the neighborhood, as well as a large variety of birds including cardinals, woodpeckers, hawks, bald eagles, sandhill cranes, egrets, spoonbills, wood storks, white and scarlet Ibis, etc.

What makes this property unique
There are so many reasons that we selected this house to be a "Home Away from Home" for us and our guests. The Date Palm House is loaded with charm. The tropical decor, the well stocked kitchen, the cozy Florida Room/TV nook, and the screened Lanai with large solar heated pool, are all outfitted for the enjoyment of the Florida Gulf Coast Lifestyle. The location is one of Venice's best. There is a reason that the site for Venice East was chosen back in 1961 when the first homes were built. It is easy to get to, whether you come in on I-75 or US. 41. Moreover it is easy to get to anywhere you want to go in the Venice area in minutes.
