Studio Apt w private kitchen & bathroom; Queen; Beacon Hill; owner occupied home
This fully furnished studio apartment, in my 1860s townhouse, is located in the historic district of Beacon Hill and is smack dab in the center of Boston. Anything you need (food, pharmacy, hardware, shoe repair, parks & libraries) and want (boutques, jewlery, bars, gift stores) is near-by.
The studio is dedicated to short-term rentals i.e. the closet and such are empty, but cooking equipment, towels and linens (100% linen) are complete. It is a real queen-sized bed ie not a pull-out couch. The studio is an amazingly quiet room, and also sunny. There are two flights of stairs, see photo.
You will be steps away from the bustle and vibrancy of Charles St.--the Hill's main shopping street--on which there are excellent restaurants of various Zagat ratings (and costs), bakeries, cafes, bars (Cheers), small food stores, many liquer stores, even more indie boutiques, art, antiques & jewelry stores, gift stores, dry cleaners with laundry services, shoe repair, hardware store (honored with Best in USA award), pharmacy (friendly, helpful service) and even hospital/MGH nearby. Whole Foods is within one-half mile and Trader Joe's even closer. The Back Bay is close by, with lots more stores to spend lots of money. Go for a run along the Charles River, grab a bike from the convenient bike share locations, kayak on the Charles, or in the winter ice skate on the Common. The terrific Boston Athenaeum is on top of the Hill and Boston's largest Public Library (BPL) with historic Sargent paintings, is within walking distance.
Boston's subway system, the MBTA--affectionately known as the T--is within an easy walk. There is readible accesibility to: the Red Line (both MGH/Charles St & Park St); Green Line (Arlington St & Boylston & Park St); Silver Line, and both the Orange and Blue lines. Or rent a city bike.
In one word: location.
The studio is of small size, as are most Beacon Hill apartments, but has all the amenities that you need, including for staying in and cooking. The shower measures 30" X 30". One guest, from South America, thought it very small, while the next guest, from NYC, thought it not. Hopefully, for you, it is 'just right.'
This apartment is dedicated to my personal guests and short-term rentals, so you will find the closet and drawers empty. No need to push over my personal belongings! The kitchenette and bathroom are both fully supplied with everything you will need. There is: WiFi; TV with cable; room air conditioner; coffee makers; free lending library; hard wood floors with carpet; photographs and paintings along with other decorations to make you feel at home.

Janet's property is lovely and proved quite convenient as a base for our excursions. Located near scores of coffe houses and shops and just two blocks from the Public Garden. Recommend!
This apartment was perfect for me. It was in a beautiful neighborhood right across from the park. Everywhere I needed to go was a short walk. The check-in pricess and instructions were on point. I highly recommended stating herr. Great for singles.
I greatly enjoyed my stay in this unit. The owner was very helpful during my stay and the location was perfect. The only tricky part was that the shower is tiny and there was major construction occurring next door. Nonetheless, the location of the unit enabled me not to be disturbed by the construction at all.
I travelled for a one week work trip
The location was great for me but Beacon Hill is is nice place to be regardless.
Janet was lovely and very helpful. I was able to checkin much earlier than advertised as Janet was flexible.
I travelled to the office each day so I was really just using the room in the evenings.
The property was great! The only thing I will say is definitely take Ms. Henkel’s advice and pack light. The trip up the stairs was harrowing with even a 35 lb bag. The stairs are very narrow and wonky considering they are spiraled and carpeted, but a very doable daily trip up and down. Other than that, this studio apartment is very nice. There was mild confusion with thinking the upstairs room was ours as well, but I think that was on us. It is only the first door you encounter that is yours. For the price, though, this was a very lovely place in a wonderful neighborhood.

Never thought of the staircase as wonky, but that is a cute description. The steps are somewhat pie shaped and the staircase is circular. Apparently in 1860 these types of staircases were popular. Check out the photos on the listing site. I'll play my age card: I'm 75, live two flights above the rental apartment and go up and down the stairs multiple times during the day and my kitchen is on the top floor. If you don't use stairs on a regular basis, then please reconsider.
I really enjoyed my week stay on River St. The room was great, quiet and air-conditioned. The bed was comfortable, fridge handy, and the location could not be beat. I could have spent forever walking a block to the commons, a few minutes to the train, and a touch further for the esplanade. The shower was very small, but fine for a week. The purpose of my travel was business, and coming back to the place after a 12 hour day at a conference was a welcome retreat. I would happily stay here again, great communication with the host also.
The apartment is very nice, comfortable and extremely well located. Janet has been a very helpful host, always kind and available. I totally recommend!
We stayed in Beacon Hill for 5 days in late September and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Janet is a wonderful host and made us feel very welcome. Her home is lovely and had everything we needed. We were surprised by how quiet it was for a central location and were able to get around all the main Boston sites very easily. Would highly recommend for other visitors to the city.
I had to spend one week in Boston for a conference. The apartment is very conveniently located in the heart of Boston. The apartment is very quiet and well furnished.
Enjoyed the stay!

Charming apartment in the heartbeat of Boston.
The location of this apartment was perfect for us. We did not rent a car and were able to walk or take the T to everywhere. Janet was the perfect host, giving us suggestions of points of interest. We loved our stay on Beacon Hill in Boston.

The studio was just the right size for two people. Had everything that we needed.
Loved the area that it was in. Walking distance to everything we wanted to do. Shops and food very easy to get to with very lovely buildings to admire along the way. Janet was amazing! Had very clear directions on how to get there from the airport. We couldn’t have found a better place to stay with a amazing host. Wouldn’t want to stay anywhere else.

Cozy, clean, great location
The apartment was quite cozy, but you're so busy exploring Boston this is all you need for a couple. Very clean and well kept. Close to the beautiful Boston Commons, Cheers and Public Garden. 1/2 mile walk to Train station- the bus is even closer. So easy to get around town from here. Would recommend.

Great location for our week of exploring Boston and the surrounding area
My wife and I spent a week this past June exploring the sights and history of Boston and some of the areas outside of Boston. The location of this Beacon Hill studio was idea to get anywhere we wanted to go each day with a couple T stations within walking distance. As stated, the studio is small, but as most of our days were filled from morning till after dinner, we only need a place to relax and sleep at night. We did rent a car for a couple days to travel outside of Boston. We used the Boston Common parking which was only a couple of blocks away. Overall, we enjoyed our stay and if we get back to Boston again would consider staying here again.

We had a great time in Beacon Hill inspite of the "elements"--rain, snow, sleet, and hail

We thoroughly enjoyed our eight days at 36 River Street, Beacon Hill. We found the accommodations very clean and well equipped, especially since it was built in 1850. Because of our ages, the stairs were a challenge, although we were warned about the two flights up through VRBO.
We can't say enough about the terrific location--close to great restaurants (try the Paramount for breakfast), Boston Commons, Public Gardens, Charles Street (very trendy with antique stores), and the T, which allowed us an easy trip to Harvard, where our grandson is a freshman. For those of us who watched Cheers on television, it was right around the corner and we felt like we were eating with old friends.
Janet (the owner) was very accommodating, even bringing us flowers when the snow began! She felt badly that the weather wasn't wonderful. It was a nice gesture. She also asked us if there was anything we needed, as well as suggested places to visit in the area.
We would go back there on our next visit to Boston. The privacy and the price fit into our budget as well.
