About the host
Hosted by Mark Hedden
Halsbury has been in the Hedden family for four generations now and is used for our family holidays. We believe it is the ideal place to stay & enjoy the stunningly beautiful North Devon coast, whatever the time of year. In fact we have many people who return year after year.
Halsbury is situated on the Quay, with magnificent, uninterrupted views across the river from the upstairs living room. You'll never tire of watching the tide's ebb and flow & comings and goings on the water.
The house is superbly furnished & equipped with everything we think is needed for an easy self catering holiday. What's more, Halsbury is within a minute's walk of the shops, pubs and art galleries.
Halsbury is a wonderful house, full of history and ideal for all visitors.

Why they chose this property
Halsbury was originally bought by our great, great grandfather who ran a shop at the back of the house. Halsbury is now owned by my father, Mark who was born in Appledore.
The house is in a perfect location for many reasons. Being on The Quay, the views and outlook are stunning. Across the water is a lovely sandy beach - ideal for children.
A short walk along the quay, 'George Sands' is a great beach for dog walking at low tide. The 'Burrows' is another fantastic walking area, a short car ride away. Nearby Westward Ho! is superb for surfing, windsurfing and kite surfing. The world famous Croyde Bay is a 30min drive.
For wet weather days, try the swimming pool at Northam (a couple of miles away) or try Atlantic Village with it's outlet shops and indoor & outdoor play areas for the kids.

What makes this property unique
The position of Halsbury couldn't be better. It is right at the heart of the action in Appledore.
The ferry across the river to the lovely sandy beach of Instow is just along the Quay.
There are pubs, restaurants, cafes and numerous art galleries within very easy walking distance.
The narrow roads behind the Quay (mostly inaccessible by car & hence almost always traffic free and child friendly) offer you a chance to discover some the very old history of Appledore and pop into a range of shops.
Take a walk over to West Appledore via Irsha Street to see the charming ex-fisherman's cottages. Stop at the Seagate or The Beaver which both offer a good range of meals whilst taking in the views across the water. Both pubs welcome dogs.
Westward Ho! just down the road has great surf and is also suitable for children.
