Other than the nerve wracking drive to get to the villa, the house in the hills was absolutely jaw dropping. It was clean, tidy and immaculately kept. The owner was very helpful and we utilised the chef on several occasions. My whole family loved the location and the experience. Thank you very much!

Never fails to impress !!
This was our third stay in as many years at the magical Posada Romana. To cap it all off, the weather was excellent and sunny. Thanks, Mirren, the family enjoyed your lovely Villa once again. The children were especially thrilled this time around because we were all able to enjoy the large garden for all sorts of outdoor activities. Makes a change from playing on Ipads and Playstations all day!!
Thanks Mirren, we'll be back next year for sure.

La Posada Romana- Luxury Villa for Family Breaks
We were a family group ( five couples and five children ) from Gibraltar looking for a nice rural villa to stay in for a short break. We certainly struck gold by booking Miren's rural Haven. The weather for the five days we stayed there was uncharacteristically wet and miserable. This did not dampen the children's, or the adult's,spirits,we just made maximum use of the heated indoor pool and games area.
The Villa is tastefully decorated and fitted out.Comfy and plentiful seating and spacious dining areas, inside and outdoors.
Thank you Miren, for a wonderful holiday and you can be sure that we will return, especially when you complete the Sauna & Steam Room.

A stunning property in a spectacular location
This property was breathtaking. The pictures on the various websites helped us choose what we thought would be a lovely house but it really has to be seen to be believed. We were a small party of five but the house could accommodate many more. It was light airy, air-conditioned and beautifully furnished and dining and relaxing on the terrace looking over the valley and mountains was a great treat. The house and grounds were peaceful yet Gaucin was a short drive away and featured a supermarket and some great restaurants.
Miren was very informative and helpful before and during the stay and available by telephone for all queries.
The holiday catered for our varied tastes including long cycle rides and walks in the mountains, swimming in the impeccably clean indoor pool, playing table tennis and relaxing in any of a number of great places in the house and grounds to read. We highly recommend La Posada Romana and hope to return ourselves.

Gaucin Country Villa
The location of the property was beautiful as was the layout of the house. Miren was lovely, easily accessible, helpful and friendly. The views from the house were simply gorgeous!!! Everyone had plenty of room and privacy. Most of the beds were comfortable and clean. The room with the bunk beds, however, had a very strong smell of mold and I don't think it would be healthy for someone to sleep in it. The mold smell was pervasive in the entire villa - but with windows and doors open it dissipated. While the furniture was comfortable it was quite dirty - simply due to its wear and tear over the years. The kitchen was big and well stocked but all the pots and pans and small appliances needed to be scrubbed clean and some replaced (the automatic drip coffee maker never worked properly). The bath towels were also quite old. New plusher towels would be a nice addition. While all 11 of us loved the villa and would stay there again, we felt it was in need of some updates and a deep cleaning.

Outstanding place to share with your family
This place is fantastic. The house is extremely beautiful and comfortable, with a ridiculous view of the Genal river valley, the coast (even Africa) and if you just want to stay there, it's a great place to do so. But you also have all the beautiful "pueblos blancos" to visit including awesome Gaucin, beautiful Ronda, and if you want to travel more, you can go to Sevilla, Granada, or Cordoba. You also have the beaches, if that's your thing. Great place to hike and bike in the mountains too.
A word apart for Diego and Ester, the couple that take care of the house. They are both wonderful people, and Ester is a great cook too. For a very reasonable price she can cook for your whole group, which makes the stay even more fun. Her lamb leg, roasted chicken and paella are outstanding.
The owner Miren is also wonderful. My flight was delayed a whole day, so she went to pick up members of my family twice to the Granada airport for a very reasonable fee.
We were there in Christmas-New Year. Weather was great. Sunny every day, and coming from Iowa, I didn't even wear a sweater most of the time. Locals wear coats since they are spoiled with all the warmth they have year-round, but it was really mild, even at night.

Two weeks at Posada Romana
We enjoyed our stay and the property has a wonderful location with an amazing view. The garden and pool are lovely. Bedrooms and bathrooms of a high standard. Towels need to be replaced more often as were not soft and pool ones were tatty and we were surprised we did not get clean ones after week one. Although the kitchen is well appointed there were a number of issues. We were asked to conserve water but there was no sink plug. A number of the appliances either didn’t work, had bits missing or were broken. The hand mixer started as soon as plugged in and smelled terrible suggesting it was dangerous. There were lots of water glasses but only 6 wine and cava glasses. We bought more. The fridges were good. Lovely to have so much ice. Furnishings in living area nice. A pity Ikea bedspreads were put over indoor and outdoor sofas as these were constantly rumpled and coming off.

Dear Marianne, thank you for your comments, I will try to address the issues:
First of all I want you to know that every Saturday or every fortnight in between 10-18 people check-out at 10:00 am, and the same amount of guests check-in at 16:00 the same day, Therefore, my housekeeping team has only 5 hours to clean the house and make it look like a 5 star hotel again, they do wonders during this time, but it's impossible for them to check as well the hand mixers and other appliances, for that we trust our guest to let us know when they need to be replaced.
1. Towels, we try to be environmental friendly and dry our towels by hanging them to dry under the lovely Andalusian sun, which might cause them to be a bit rougher than dried in a tumble dryer.
2. Sink plug: Unfurtunatelly the previous family that stayed at the villa, threw the sink plug to the garbage by mistake, being a special sink plug I had to order another one from Germany, by the way, you forgot to mention that you got a new sink plug a few days after you told us it was missing as soon as we received it by post.
3. You were right, after reading your comment I checked the appliances and found the orange squeezer top part missing, there's a new one now, it's a real shame that you didn't tell me earlier, I always replace immediately any broken or malfunctioning items at the house if I'm told they are not working, next time please let me know, communication is essential in between us in order to provide you with the best holiday experience.
4. There's a bran new hand mixer now, I wish you would have let me know earlier.
5. Glasses get broken as you know, glass is very delicate, thank you for buying new glasses is very kind and very thoughtful of you, I really appreciate that gesture, having said that, I have lots of glasses in my storage to replace the broken ones, you should have asked Diego, he would have given you as many as you needed. I will anyhow remind the housekeeping team to be more aware of glasses missing since it is very important to have a full set at the villa.
6. I'm very sorry you didn't like the protection bed spreads we put over the sofas, you see, we cover the cushions with the bedspreads because lots of drinks get spilled over the cushions every week specially when there are lots of children, and it's easier to replace with clean bedspreads than to strip off, wash and put back the cushions of so many sofas every Saturday.
Firstly, the pictures of the property on VRBO do the house no justice. This property is absolutely stunning! The decor is stylish, sophisticated and homely. The house is really well equipped with everything that you need for a large group. We spent a week here (8 adults and 8 teenagers). A couple of reviews mentioned a daunting drive through the village of Gaucin to the property - we found this drive exciting, beautiful and challenging which resulted in a remote destination which is perfect if you are looking for somewhere quiet to stay. Miren is the perfect host, she reached out to us daily to ensure all was in order and provided a huge amount of information about the area. She also made contact prior to our stay requesting passport copies to ensure a smooth check in. The views from the property are to die for. We hiked in the mornings, relaxed by the pool in the afternoon (or did day trips) and braai'd in the evenings taking in the lovely views. The bedrooms are beautiful and there are so many eating areas, chill our zones. I highly recommend this property, a miilion times better than we were expecting. Miren is the best host i have encountered throughout my travels - so many lovely memories made within our stay. Craig
Our recent stay at La Posada Romana was fabulous. Nestled into the hillside under Gaucin, with breathtaking views of mountains, the Mediterranean Sea and even North Africa, this villa exceeded our expectations and allows for the perfect relax and escape.
Other reviews have mentioned:
smell of mould - no evidence of this on our trip
old towels - not a concern for us, additional pool towels were also there.
The villa and grounds are stunning. Inside
- large living spaces, tasteful décor and comfortable furnishings
- fully equipped kitchen, allowing us to prepare anything we wanted to (the first time we have had everything needed for large group catering)
- spacious bedrooms, en-suite bathrooms, and terraces
We spent every evening after dinner on the main terrace watching the sunset followed by moon and stars. The comfy seats, outside fans and bbq is great too.
The brand new outdoor pool is gorgeous - an absolute hit for our group and couple of frogs too! Sun loungers with another covered terrace for shade allowed us a couple of afternoons of extreme leisure.
The villa's location was ideal for exploring the surrounding region. Gaucin (with great restaurants - La Fructuosa was our favourite) is walkable, albeit steep, but otherwise a car is essential for getting about (the approach roads to the villa are rough country roads so an SUV is highly recommended).
Miren and Diego were always available to answer any questions and were lovely to us.
Our whole group loved it!!!
We recently completed a 1 month stay at La Posada Romana (month of September 2023) as part of a 4 ½ month retirement celebration trip in Europe and Spain. I have wanted to spend an extended visit in Andalucia for many years and spent over 2 years searching the best place to stay in the Ronda Sierra once I decided this was the area I wanted to stay in. I tried to read and research all I could to gain an understanding for the area and which place to rent. For this reason I will spend time on this review in hopes that it might help others. In my search for places to rent I kept coming back to thinking Posada Romana was the right place for us even though originally I was just hunting for a place for my husband and myself. I am so happy I made the choice. La Posada Romana was perfect for our visit in this area although a little different than what I originally envisions our month to be. We were just the 2 of us for about 2/3 of the month and then had friends and family visiting for the last part of our visit. I originally imagined going into Gaucin everyday and becoming part of the town life when not going on day side trips. In the end, the house and location were so beautiful and tranquil that I really had limited desire to leave the property. I loved spending time starting at morning coffee till midnight dinners on the terrazzo with views constantly changing in the light and really always staying cool (there are ceiling fans) in September all day. As the month went on, evenings

Fantastic house! Hard to say goodbye to.
We stayed at la Posada Romana with our family of 5 children and 7 adults at the beginning of May. We already had a good impression of the house through all the pictures on the Internet and the video on youtube, but when we arrived at the house we were not dissappointed. The pictures do it justice.
The track leading to the house was an adventure, especially the first couple of times, but we got used to it quickly. The house itself is fantastic. Everything looked really clean and the whole house smelled very fresh. The bedrooms were all very practical and big. The only thing lacking in our point of view was an extra bathroom on the top floor, but we solved that by putting the children in the rooms upstairs.
We especially enjoyed the practicallity of the house. The swimming pool and area downstairs, the open connection between the living room and the upper outside area was fantastic. We could enjoy the views from different angles. We were really lucky with the weather and we were really comfortable sitting outside on the terras every night until late.
The area around the house is beautiful. We once went for a stroll with the children and found a nice footpath. The village of Gaucin is beautiful with lots of lovely views. There were a couple of small supermarkets which had a good selection of almost everything.
We went on outings to the coast (Estepona, Marbella) and to Ronda. The route to Ronda is fantastic, with spectacular views. We visited Ronda before, but were again impressed with it's stunning views.
During our stay we had a lot of help from Diego, the gardner. He couldn't speak English, and we couldn't speak Spanish, but we managed through modern media.
The best way of describing how much we all loved la Posada Romana is by saying that absolutely no one wanted to leave. We all wished we could have stayed longer and were sad to go.
Thanks to Miren, Diego and Esther for providing such a lovely holiday home.

Fantastic house as home base or destination itself
As a group of 5 widely-traveled couples who get a villa somewhere in Europe every year, we all bring our own benchmarks of a "great house." La Posada Romana hit every one of them. It is a fantastic home to enjoy as its own destination, or as a centrally-located home base for the major destinations of Andalucia.
To start, the owner, Miren, couldn't have been more helpful, particularly with a very thorough pre-trip packet, including helpful directions to the house with pictures of primary route landmarks. Also included are restaurant suggestions with pictures, contact numbers, websites, attractions, history, etc. -- essentially the House Book delivered to you before your arrival. Diego, the gardener, was always available with suggestions or to help with any requests.
The house itself is excellent for large groups. There is plenty of room for everyone to either gather together or find their own private space. While we didn't have any young children with us (ages ranged from mid-20s to early-60s), as parents we could appreciate that the house would be very well suited for all but the youngest (as there are many levels).
The kitchen is large and well stocked with equipment and serving ware. As seems to normally be the case, it proved to be the favored gathering spot and could accommodate the 10 of us easily. We also had everything we needed to make and enjoy large scale dinners.
The pool, sundeck and activities (ping pong, bocci) lent a relaxing resort-like component to the holiday.
You do need a vehicle unless you are particularly geared towards a 30 minute hike into town, up a fairly steep incline. It's a 4 minute drive otherwise. The track to the house is perhaps a bit daunting the first trip, but a non-event thereafter. However, the location couldn't be better -- the views can't be done justice in the pictures.
The house can get warm when closed up, but please note that this is coming from visitors from moderate/cool climates (NYC/SF/Toronto) and used to constant air conditioning. However, there is central A/C with a max low of 23C (74F). We visited in October during a perfectly mild and dry period -- 24/15 (75/58) and were perfectly comfortable when we opened the doors and windows (of which there are many large openings) to allow the breezes to come through, adding to the home's open and bright feeling.
We highly recommend Posada Romana, and thank Miren and Diego for a very memorable holiday!

I look forward to have you again one day as guest ad wish you all the best,

Een perfecte basis om de omgeving te verkennen en wandelingen te maken. Het huis is geweldig. Tips: het buitenmeubilair mag vernieuwd worden en het spelmateriaal (tafeltennisbatjes e.d. ) is aan vervanging toe.
There is so much to love about La Posada Romana. We spent 5 weeks there from mid-Sept to mid-Oct with many different groups of friends and family and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The view from the villa is spectacular, the communal spaces are ideal for large groups to gather and the nearby white hill town of Gaucin is wonderful--a decent market, a number of very good restaurants, even a terrific wine and gourmet shop. This is a place for peace and quiet, for hiking (the town is an ONEROUS 35 minute hike from the villa), for enjoying people you love. It's also very well situated as a central base for visiting other historic sites in the Andalusia region, e.g., Cadiz, Seville, Granada, Cordoba (all best via an overnight trip) and Ronda. The owner, Miren, is incredibly responsive and easy to work with. The caretaker, Diego, and his wife, Ester (who can be hired to prepare delicious meals for your group--she brings them all done, family style) are true gems. The constructive feedback we gave to Miren is that the place could use a deep cleaning (especially the rugs/mats in the bedrooms and the upholstery) and despite the many prior deserved negative reviews about the towels, they had not been upgraded. And, this home is not a place for people who have difficulty with stairs. Also, make sure you get specific driving instructions from Miren the first time you visit as you approach Gaucin (our GPS didn't work). Overall, we had a fantastic experience that we'll never forget.
Incredible home and location for a Family Vacation
We spend our family vacation with 20 people at this is a beautiful House August 2022. We were looking for a spacious home with enough bedrooms and bathrooms and we found it in this beautiful Mansion. The house was as advertised in VRBO.
The first reaction upon coming to the house was Wow...The beautiful entrance, staircase, spacious living room, kitchen and beautiful view from the large terrace were unbelievable and made this the perfect home for our vacation. Although we had a large group, we never felt cramped. There was enough space and sitting areas to relax and enjoy every moment. The large living room, dining room and large terrace provided more than enough room for relaxing and enjoying meals with the family. The Gas grill on the terrace was a wonderful feature that we used almost every night. The indoor pool is large and was perfect to keep the kids and adults happy. Although the pool is indoor there is a double door to an outside terrace that made you feel you were also enjoying the outdoors. The kitchen is spacious with a large fridge/freezer, 2nd fridge, cooking range, oven and microwave that was more than enough for our group. The decorations throughout the house are rich and tasteful. Bedrooms were spacious and had enough closet space. Bathrooms are large and modern.
We worked with Miren for several months before making our decision and she was very responsive and helpful...I'm so glad we decided for her home. Miren is a very nice and helpful Host. She helped us arranged a winery tour with lunch for the whole group including transportation and everything was top..very memorable outing for our family.
Diego the caretaker was very friendly, was often at the property and was very helpful when we needed something.
This home is nested on the mountain just below Gaucin, as such, to get to the home one has to navigate through secondary roads that are sometimes gravel and sometimes cement. This secondary road starts off A-377 as one goes north before reaching Gaucin. From the start of the road, it’s only a 6-minute ride to the house. Initially one is impressed by the backroad aspects but relax, it’s all worth it when you get to the house. From this house we did daily trips to Gibraltar, Malaga, Sevilla, Cadiz, Ronda (we love Ronda), Estepona and Granada on two Mercedes Vito vans.
We highly recommend this home to anyone looking for unique, large, luxurious, and memorable home. The views and the sky are unique from this house.
Spacious Villa on a Hill near Gaucin village with good facilities & AC
Spacious villa with several bedrooms, batchrooms including ensuites, well equipped kitchen and an indoor swimming pool. Covered patio seating and dining to seat 12 with expansive views of the hill and the Tangier coast on a clear day. Miren is highly responsive and always keen to help with info. Care taker was available to check in & check out - and for arranging food etc for a fee. Roads leading up to the villa is mostly concrete with a couple of stretches of muddy/metal road. overall 2 km from the main road & about 10 mins easy drive.
We had a fabulous stay at La Posada Romana. The property is very spacious and fitted out to a high standard and the views are incredible. Sometimes you look at the pictures and hope for the best but prepare for a disappointment. Not so with this property, it's every bit as good as the pictures show it to be. We would definitely consider booking it again.
A spacious villa brilliant for families with older children. A bright and airy villa with a well thought out layout with large windows with great views in every bedroom. There is lots of room for the children to run around and explore outside. The only thing lacking is an outdoor pool for the summer months.
We had a great week in this lovely house. Everything about it is excellent. The attention and care given by Miren and Diego was very much appreciated. Highly recommended.
We had a superb time-everything was great-the home was large enough for our group to allow dinners together but with areas for quiet time too. We highly recommend this property.

Why they chose this property
My husband's dream was to have a house in the Countryside. He found his dream spot in Gaucin. We bought the finca in 2003, and build what is today La Posada Romana. We are very proud of the house and the gardens that we have surrounding us and that. I fell in love of the area when we came to buy the finca, because is so green and there is forest everywhere, is very peaceful and specially we love the views over the strait of Gibraltar.
What makes this property unique
The whole project was drawn in a restaurant napkin and passed on to a wonderful arquitect: Gustavo Kloster, who made our dream reality and managed the building project following to the point our wishes.
