UNIT DESCRIPTION: Hosted Ohana Unit. Approximately 670 ft. elevation and easy access to main highway ("Queen K"). NO SMOKING allowed within unit and only in designated areas located on the property.
Two story one bedroom full bath with kitchenette unit with a two stool dinette. Private entrance and plenty of parking available. Ocean View.
Kitchenette located on lower level with very small living area and flatscreen 42" LED Smart TV w/DVD player. Twin SOFABED sleeper. Internet available. Microwave, induction single burner (no stove or oven), coffee maker, full size fridge, and dinette table with two stools.
Upstairs has travertine flooring with a comfortable SINGLE king size bed (ocean view), closet, and full bath. Ceiling fans on both floors. Portable A/C unit avail upstairs. Ceiling fans are also in unit. Linens, towels/beach towels, some toiletries available. Air Purifier portable unit also available upon request.
Outdoor seating available in front of the residence as well as unit side of residence. Access to use of Washer and Dryer , no extra charge, but requires prior arrangement. (*large bird and bird cage are in the rear lanai with the dining table)
Mature and QUIET neighborhood/neighbors. More suitable for one to two persons. Downstairs space and twin sleeper can accommodate third person but tight space with little to no walk around space while bed is opened up.
NOT suitable for babies/toddlers (older child would be fine).
IMPORTANT:
Animals reside on the premises. NOT RECOMMENDED IF YOU DO NOT LIKE ANIMALS AND/OR ARE ALLERGIC TO ANIMALS. The animals will NOT have access to within the unit. Single Macaw is quiet 98 percent of the time - ALWAYS quiet at night 100%. He occasionally squawks for his breakfast approx. btwn 8:00 and 8:30 a.m (he does occasionally talk), or unless an intruder is a threat (my feathered guard dog). Guests are more than welcome to meet and interact/pet with animals when they are out and about on property or even if requested should they be in my side. (However Macaw/bird requires supervision if you are interested in holding or petting. When looking at or watching … no supervision needed). My animals are friendly but dog does alert to strangers/intruders. Cats love car rides so please do not leave door or windows open to vehicles and/or check to make certain they are NOT in the vehicle when locking vehicle up or leaving residence.
Check in time 3:00 PM and check out time NOON. Times can be flexible with ADVANCE reasonable notice to owner. Flight arrival time and departure times are required upon booking so I can be sure unit is disinfected, cleaned and prepped for your arrival and also to be certain there is no conflict with other booked guests.

Used bath towels are required to be given to me to be washed after 2 to 3 days of use (there are plenty provided in the unit). Due to the humidity of the island I would like to insure minimizing any potential for mold/mildew or any skin diseases (as island Dr recommended to me from his experience). I will gladly wash your beach wear, towels etc for you and dry (I do not fold). Or you are welcome to use washer and dryer on your own but with advance notice.
There are absolutely no security cameras (hidden or otherwise) anywhere within the unit. There ARE security cameras OUTSIDE of the residence (and within the inside of only the interior of MY side of the residence that I live in) FYI

We really enjoyed staying at this cozy comfy home away from home spot! The owner is fantastic to work with and makes sure we have everything we need and more. We had courtesy beverages and beach goods daily. The place was super clean! A car is wanted but its only a couple minutes from the beach and town of Jona Kailua. Kailua.

Nice place away from busy Kona, but close enough to enjoy all it has to offer. Cynthia was a great host and I would highly recommend staying here. Clean and comfortable. The outdoor shower was great for taking care of my diving gear, and great cycling right out the front door.

This was a great place for my parents to spend a week while in Kona. The location is just a short distance to everything from excellent shopping and restaurants to amazing beaches. I had a great stay at Cynthia's. It was just me and my husband and she was the BEST host! She was so accommodating -always there to help. She had coffee, unlimited water, offered rides (even if I had a rental car), did my laundry, and gave me a celebratory bottle of wine. Will definitely stay with Cynthia again!

Gracious owner, comfortable suite
C. Johnson went out of her way to make our stay informative and pleasant. The suite was immaculate and easily surpassed our expectations. Ms. Johnson actually played guide for us on her own time and buck. She lives in the home and is available with advice, amenities, and assistance. We could not have been more pleased with our stay and should we return to the big island, her facility would surely be our first choice for accommodations. She gives vacation rentals a good name.

We had never stayed in a unit like this.... So Glad we did. It was CLEAN, comfortable and in a quiet neighborhood. Cynthia was kind and generous and gave us such great treats, tips and info about the area. She was available, but not intrusive. We loved her pets! We used the beach towels, chairs and beach mat every day! The unit is well-appointed with a full-sized fridge and a Keurig. The A/C upstairs kept us perfectly cool.

Cynthia is a lovely person and she has a lovely home. She takes much care to ensure you have everything you need and more. King size beauty rest bed was heaven. There are stairs to bedroom and bath, but they are carpeted with ample landings. The kitchen is stocked with all your needs and bath supplies are aplenty. Very safe neighborhood to park car plus a funny group of pets you can enjoy as company. If you are not a pet person, then you most likely won’t need to encounter them, but I very much enjoyed watching Sampson play soccer with himself!

There is no way to convey how very much we enjoyed our stay here. I initially decided on this property based on all the positive reviews. When I contacted Cynthia she responded quickly and addressed any concerns. Looking at the pictures of the property, we were hooked. We arrived early, which was no problem. We had such a great time and upon learning I wanted to see turtles, she personally took us to her favorite spot and showed us the turtles. She recommended restaurants and was a wealth of information. When we decided to relax at home, the outdoor area was comfortable and inviting. Truly, we so enjoyed our visit here and would highly recommended you enjoy it too. A big thank you to Cynthia for everything! A truly memorable visit.

TOO FAR FROM THE OCEAN
The unit is located 50 minutes from the Ali'i/shore meaning that the pictures are decieving. From them it looks like you are near the ocean. You can not walk back from the ocean to the place.
NOT FOR SMOKERS
Our first encounter with the owner was her coming to us almost yelling that she is allergic to cigaret smoke that was coming from the porch (outisde) into the house aparently and that if I want to smoke Ineed to be further away.
The owner also came at 4 am to me saying we cannot smoke on the porch, which had astray.
NOT MEANT FOR THREE PEOPLE
The unit is very small so we wouldn't recommend more than two people staying there.
RULES
The owner Cynthja kept coming into the unit (even if she meant well it didnt feel nice). She also kept telling us to close the two doors from the entrance. One glass and one anti mosquito door. It allmade sense but if you go into rhe unit to grab your phone and go back out right after that she would already have a problem with that... which isnotpleasant and you feel like you are being watched and under control.
CHECK OUT
You need to literally clean the apartment. Take off the bedding, take out the trash, bring her the towels and so on... However in the price you payed for cleaning so you would expect that you wouldnt need to do that and that the owner or cleaning lady would do that.
There is also a thick layer of dust under the bed indicating it hasnt been cleaned in awhile. Most likely the towels nadthe bedding were theonly onces that were changed.
ANIMALS
Also she has 2 dogs and 2 cats so keep that in mind as well for she will letthem walk around. It depends if you like that or not.

If you GOOGLE the location, clearly the unit is at most 1.9 miles from the ocean NOT 50 minutes.
It was also actually 5 a.m. which is my normal routine to open my side garage pet door …and not 4 a.m. when I AGAIN (several times throughout your stay) had remind you to NOT sit inches from the front sliding screen door (that was continuously left open for not just seconds to grab something but the entire time you either left or sat outside letting insects into the unit for future guests to deal with). This clearly states it is a NO SMOKING property. You absolutely refused to use areas AWAY from the building. I even brought you into my garage to show you that your smoke was entering through my garage window and now also into my house. Fortunate for you this site does not allow me to post photos supporting the facts to show others that my concerns were not unreasonable and the messes you made.
I NEVER once entered the unit during your entire stay since or “yelled” at you. I poked my head in once (on the day of your arrival) but never fully entered as I was trying to see if you had arrived yet (as your daughter arrived days earlier). You not only rearranged my furniture in the unit but also outside and actually blocked a door leading into the unit (fire hazard). I also have pictures to provide as proof that you and your family moved the outdoor furniture directly within inches of the entrance to unit as you continuously smoked and rather than move one other chair over to use and sit on you instead moved a table over and put a cushion on it to sit on.. The unit has been listed as NON SMOKING. I even provided an acceptable smoking area you refused to use, and yes, I found an ashtray for you to use as I didn’t want ashes or cigarette butts tossed onto the ground. When you checked out, all I asked was for you to bring your used towels and bedding down and toss any food AND to please return and move the outside and inside furniture back to its ORIGINAL location. I am not sure why you thought you were entitled to rearrange and remodel both outside and inside. You obviously feel your payment for the unit should include me scrubbing it down BEFORE and AFTER you arrive and check out along with your entitlement and ability to remodel as you deem fit. Which wouldn’t be an issue except when it requires me to put in an additional hour or two of cleaning and labor to make it presentable and useable for the next guests. It also clearly states to provide me with your used bath towels every 2 or 3 days on this site and that I would gladly launder for you. Not once was that done and again I never entered your unit even though they needed to be done. The dust you are referring to does NOT exist by the bed or even under the bed. Had you used an actual “white glove” you certainly would not have been able to validate this accusation. The unit, bed, flooring, furniture, handles etc is throughly disinfected and washed after each guest. Not sure what you thought you may have seen however I did find your Q tip, plastic water bottle and misc trash also found under the bed upon your check out. I also have pictures of the beer bottle box and candy container (of which I gave you and your family among other items as complimentary) that was tossed on the ground in my outside shower area of which I also used. Your trash laid there for days. Pictures were not edited to show ocean any closer than reality. When you say you cannot walk back from the ocean you failed to mention that it was because it was all uphill for the return and difficult for your elderly mother. It is not impossible but definitely not easy if one is not in great physical shape and/or tires easily. I felt sorry that you and your family walked and UBER’d and chose not to obtain a rental vehicle. I actually volunteered and did drive you to and from ventures/excursions. I agree though that unit is NOT best suited for 3 people unless they don’t mind small area which is ALSO mentioned in the listing. Also agree that this unit is definitely NOT for smokers (or people who have absolutely no respect for one’s property or rules which were provided to you IN WRITING upon your check in). I almost returned your last nights fee and asked you to leave when you refused to stop smoking within inches of the entrance and side of my house after SEVERAL requests (rather than to walk a few feet out to either the street or even the nice reasonable space provided for lounging and acceptable to smoke at as a compromise). Not sure why you mentioned about my animals as that is also clearly mentioned in the listing. I find it odd that they are such an issue in your review when you took many pics with them. You even showed me one with you sitting with my dog and also had me take pics with you/your family with my bird. I certainly hope the rest of your rentals are able to meet your expectations better than mine did. I apologize as this was obviously NOT a good fit for either of us. Also, not once did I ever YELL at you. You obviously do not respond to polite requests well and feel you can do as you please which was evident when you also disrespected the official that asked you to move and told you that you were too close to the turtles (that I also drove you and your family too).
Very comfortable unit conveniently located in Kailua-Kona
This unit was definitely like a home away from home. Bedroom is very spacious with king bed, dresser, closet, and nightstands. Ceiling fan helps circulate air throughout the unit and a portable AC unit is available for the very hot and humidity months. There is a good view of the ocean from the bedroom window. Bathroom is well kept and stocked with TP, soap, shampoo/conditioner, and other supplies (some left by other renters). Cutely decorated throughout. Kitchen is on the lower, entry level. It is small but sufficiently large and equipped (hot plate with pots & pans; microwave; toaster; Keurig; and other small applianances; full size refrigerator/freezer) to make full breakfasts, lunch, and dinner. An easy chair and a small couch w/ fold-out bed are in the kitchen area for seating. A small patio area with outdoor seating is also available with the unit. For those beach / water days, an outdoor shower and sink is available for easy clean up.
Location is super convenient. Very close to the airport (driving about 15 min), harbor (about 10 min), downtown Kailua-Kona (5-7 min). Shopping (Safeway, Walmart, and Target) about 5-7 min away (within 1-3 traffic lights) so you can easily run out to pick up your necessities - bonus, Safeway is open 24 h! Costco is also close, about 10 min (between the airport and harbor). Neighborhood is quiet and feels very safe. Drives to Hilo (just under 2 h) and the Volcano Park (about 2 h) are easy from the unit.
Host Cynthia (on-site, on her side of the house) is the absolute best. She kept the unit stocked with all amenities, including water. She even gave us some fruit, refreshments, and other eats. Cynthia is a fountain of knowledge on the area and her hints and suggestions for activities were spot on. The manta ray snorkel/dive is definitely a must-do. To keep towels fresh, she asks you for them every 2-3 days and will even wash your laundry with them. I felt like we were staying with a friend and not just renting a unit. Thank you Cynthia for making our stay fabulous.
If you're looking for accommodations for 2 (or 3), you need not look further. This is an awesome choice. I'm not sure why there are a few negative reviews - there is nothing negative about this unit or Cynthia. We will certainly stay here again when we return.

I am retired from working in the public service industry and live on site. I love to fish, snorkel, and play on and in the water. I have also owned my own boats in the past and am hoping to acquire another one as I love boats too. Obviously I have a love of all animals….hence my “zoo” 😏
Why they chose this property
Conveniently located to pretty much most of everything except the Hilo side and even then its easy access to any roads to journey the rest of the island. Perfect elevation and nice views of the water front from not only the property but as you take the road down the hill into town or to wherever your heart wants to journey.
I always disinfect, wash/clean everything (bedding, floors, throw rugs/pillows, handles/switches, countertops, railings, etc.) This unit is used mostly for family and friends hence I’m very particular about how the unit is kept. I do not allow pillows to be stored on the floors for ANY reason and require that bath towels be washed every 2 to 3 days at minimum - I will gladly wash for you (due to humidity on the island). I may not turn down your bed each evening or iron the sheets but you know it’s clean and refreshed prior to your arrival and for your use. This unit is comfortable, cozy, and clean.
What makes this property unique
Nice quiet location if you want to relax and minimize any crowds or noise. Private and comfortable with hopefully the feel of home and Aloha. Turkeys roam the neighborhood freely and are often heard and /or seen walking in the area. Please be careful when driving down to Main highway (Queen Ka’ahumanu) as they often are on shoulders and often cross the streets.
