About this property
Riverfront with boat dock, sleeps 8, walking distance to beach. 14 NIGHTS FREE !
** 14 NIGHTS FREE WHEN YOU PAY FOR 14 NIGHTS AT THE STANDARD RATE OF $375.00 !! ** dose not include special events or holidays. Our Riverhouse on John Anderson Drive is recently renovated as a casual fishing and boating retreat on the Halifax River (Intracoastal Waterway). The Halifax River and Intracoastal Waterway is the inside passage for boats of all sizes traveling along the east coast of America. Located in the beachside town of Ormond By the Sea and convenient to the hustle and bustle of Daytona Beach a short drive to the south. The house accommodates 8 people comfortably. Almost all rooms overlook the river and offer an unobstructed view of the passing watercraft of every size. Barges, yachts, sailboats, motorboats, canoes, and kayaks pass within feet of the seawall. Manatee and dolphin pass under the dock and if bird watching is your interest you will enjoy watching the waterfowl, terns, owls and osprey flying overhead and nesting on the nearby islands.
The house is located on John Anderson Drive - named for one of the original settlers of the area. Most weekends you will find many bicyclists passing in front of the house riding "the loop", the picturesque John Anderson Drive, through Cobb's Corner, then circling around the west side of the river and back across the Ormond Bridge, where many weekend activities take place at Rockefeller Gardens and the Fortunato Park.
The house is ideal for a family or 3-4 couples. When you walk in the front door you will immediately see the outstanding view of the water. The great room is comfortable and spacious and includes a fireplace and TV. The kitchen is modern and clean with a refrigerator, dishwasher, microwave, stove, and oven. There are a washer and dryer in the attached garage. There is an eat-in kitchen set overlooking the river and the second-best place to enjoy breakfast, the first being on the outside patio and dock!! The kitchen is stocked with some staple items and PUBLIX supermarket is within 2 miles. All our guests comment on the fun of waving to the boats as they enjoy their morning coffee.
The spacious master bedroom on the second floor has a breathtaking view of the river. The room boasts 140 sq. ft of window overlooking the riverfront. The second-floor location gives you a great view of the islands and the entrance to Tomoka State Park. The bathroom is modern and includes a large tub and separate shower with a private toilet. The room has a separate thermostat for your comfort and is well appointed with tasteful furnishings, TV and seating area. You will awake to boats passing so close you may forget you are on land and not in a boat yourself!
The second upstairs bedroom is also spacious and nicely appointed and has a King bed and private bath. The bedroom overlooks the river and is private from the master bedroom location. The third bedroom is located downstairs also with a river view and contains a King bed and semi-private bathroom. There is an additional bedroom downstairs and has a Queen bed and a semi-private bath The house is equipped with beach chairs, coolers, and beach umbrellas. 2 Bicycles and rentals are also available. If spending a day at the beach is in your plans, we suggest packing a cooler and making the short walk or ride to the beach. The beach in Ormond By The Sea is quieter then the beaches to the south and we think prettier!! The dunes are natural and the beach less crowded. You can walk for miles in either direction, search for shells, frolic in the waves, watch the sandpipers, seagulls, and pelicans, build a sandcastle, cast a surf rod and maybe even catch your dinner. Fresh fish on the dock will certainly be tasty, (propane grill provided)! The beach changes daily and early morning walks will bring many discoveries, you never know the treasure you may find.
The house has a two-car garage for car or motorcycle storage out of the weather. For the motorcycle enthusiast, there are many great rides close by including the Ormond Loop, Cobb's Corner, Matanzas Inlet to Ponce Inlet, Main Street, and the legendary Boothill Saloon, to name a few. The Daytona International Speedway and Museum is within 10 miles from the house and close to some of the off-site parking areas for Nascar events.
Orlando area attractions are approximately one hour drive as well as Kennedy Space Center. Ponce Inlet is on the south end and offers many deep-sea fishing boats for daily charter. The Ponce Inlet Lighthouse is a fun visit and great seafood restaurants are nearby. A visit to St. Augustine is only 45 minutes to the north and getting there is half the fun as you drive along the beachside on A1A. You will pass Flagler Beach, Palm Coast, Matanzas Inlet, and Marineland, again with lots of choices in restaurants and local shops.
No vacation is complete without a deep-sea fishing trip or a visit to Cape Canaveral about an hour away by car.
YOUR PIECE OF PARADISE IS WAITING FOR YOU.

The best VRBO! House is just beautiful. Everything is nicely maintained, lots of lovely wood furniture. Kitchen had everything we needed and more, TV is better than mine at home. We spent most of our time sitting on the dock, which is beautiful and relaxing. John and Christa are excellent hosts, so kind and responsive. This was our second wonderful stay and we're hoping for many more.

Thank you for the 10 stars. It was areal pleasure meeting you and your family. I hope to see you all again and before your next anniversary. A longer stay would allow you to enjoy more of our toys and interesting adventures.
I did not even have time to show you our wine cellar this time.

Best home ever!
Best home we have ever stayed in for a vacation. Beautiful setting, warm welcome, immaculately clean & furnished with everything you need & more. We definitely plan to return.
We had a wonderful time, the dock is really nice. We enjoyed fishing, eating outside and relaxing. The kitchen easy to work in. Our host was so nice and easy to work with.
Beautiful house and great location. We enjoyed the dock and fishing. The driveway is super narrow and a little steep. We have a dually truck and it was a little tight. Just be aware. Overall awesome place and would stay again.
This home was very comfortable and the owner was very hospitable. We enjoyed ourselves immensely.
The dock was the most fun. Every morning and then every evening, we enjoyed sitting on the dock and watching the boats and the wildlife. Couldn’t have had a better time at this house. John was the best host, and the most accommodating. Can’t wait to come again.
We thoroughly enjoyed our week at 23 Riverhouse. The home is comfortable & clean. The host was so very hospitable too! Enjoyed watching the boats pass by & dolphins as well. Could use a dining table in main area for group dinners & game playing. Would recommend it for adults only as not kid proof -
Not an issue for us but may be for others.
We all agreed that 23 Riverhouse is the nicest VRBO we’ve ever stayed in. John is a wonderful host, warm
and welcoming. The house is lovely, but not stuffy or formal. The kitchen was well-stocked, and there were bicycles and a kayak in the garage (which we were too lazy to use). The setting could not be more beautiful and peaceful. We spent most of our time sitting on the dock, enjoying the views, the wildlife and the perfect weather. We saw bottleneck dolphins! Would love to come back next year.

Beautiful, Peaceful River House
This house on the river was perfect for our family getaway and for celebrating our parents' 50th wedding anniversary. We served dinner on the back deck at sunset...gorgeous sunsets every night. The beach is only two blocks away and close to good restaurants as well (we loved Betty's Café on AIA). The owner was so warm and welcoming...gave us a tour of the house when we arrived and even had wine, fruit, and breakfast foods there for us upon our arrival. You can't go wrong renting this beautiful house. Enjoy!!!
We couldn't have asked for a better host! We were welcomed with a compete tour and groceries! The cranberry bread was to die for! We loved this house and the dock! We fished (caught a sting ray, catfish, crab and other fish we couldn't figure out), kayaked and walked to the beach. We had dolphins and manatees swim by daily! Lots of great places to eat within 5 minutes drive. This was the best stocked pantry in any house we've stayed in - in over 25 years! Beds are super comfy - water pressure in the master shower is awesome! We had a great visit - and would definitely stay again! Thank you!

Amazing Home & Host for Vacation!
Absolutely this home is amazing! Thank you John & Christe for sharing your River House with us. You all were great host. The views were amazing. Upon our arrival you met, showed us around, & welcomed us as if we were family. Your generosity and thoughtfulness of the groceries and cocktails which you had waiting for us upon our arrival made us feel as if we were at home. Everything was, nice, neat, & clean. This home met all our needs for a great vacation. Definitely, this is a home away from home we will come back to! Again, Thank you for sharing.

Merry Christmas memories!
Perfect place to relax away from home, but feeling at home! We were 8 people, 4 generations. The house has a floorplan that provides for people to enjoy themselves as a big family, eat, cook, play games together, or to retreat to their rooms and have a quiet time. The master bedroom is a gem, loved the full wall windows and the view of the river, changing colors at sunrise and with gorgeous sunsets. We were lucky to be there at almost full moon and the moonlight trail on the water was magical. My husband had a great time fishing and the grandkids had a blast watching the boats passing by. John and Christa were exceptional hosts!!! He met us with a thoughtful “first aid” food kit, so we could enjoy ourselves from the very first second in the house. During the 3 days stay, everything we needed was there.
A great place to have a memorable merry vacation! Thank you, John&Christa!

A wonderful family and great guests. We will await their next visit with great pleasure.
Life really is great

Easily the best hosts you will ever come into contact with. They are very understanding and make the entire process easy. Not only that, they even bought us breakfast to cook for the house so we didn’t have to go out the next morning to get it after our long trip there the night prior. The house is beautiful and couldn’t be a better location. Recommend this spot entirely.
John the property manager meant us at arrival and showed us around. Such a nice guy. By far the best equipped home and very clean. Hope to go back soon and have a glass of wine with John and his wife. A lot I would like to talk about with this 94 year old gentleman.
First let me say being a guest of John’s is like being part of the family. He met us there to walk us through and answer any questions. He left a bunch of little things to make it feel like home. Milk, juice, beer and wine. Also snacks, baked goods and 1 day’s breakfast If you are lucky enough to get a loaf of the cranberry bread eat it up! My family loved it. We had 3 different “families” come together for our family vacation. Everyone had their own room and their own bathroom. The living space was perfect. The deck outback provided hours of enjoyment as we are a family of fishers and we had a blast. We were able to use the poles provided which was an added bonus. We caught several catfish, a puffer fish, a crab and a couple of sting rays. The walk to the beach wasn’t bad as we brought our portable wagon. The household binder was very detailed and had great restaurant recommendations. We will be back.
This house has everything!! The owner, John is absolutely the best host. It's like staying at a fancy resort. The house is lacking nothing!! We will definitely be back!!!

About the host
Hosted by Christa Rainey / John Rainey
We recently renovated our Riverhouse and often spend weekends getting away from it all, although we don't live too far away. Our many guests and family have also enjoyed Riverhouse and always comment on the location and ambiance of the house. We've spent many evenings watching the sunset, drinking a glass of wine, grilling a delicious dinner and watching nature at its finest. We thought it would be fun to share the property with others during the times we are not using it.
Why they chose this property
The convenient location and the casual feel of this fishing and boating retreat makes the property unique. You will feel like you are a millions miles away yet really very convenient to the hustle and bustle of Daytona Beach and Orlando. We've lived in the Ormond By The Sea Area for over 50 years and never get tired of sitting on the riverbank watching the sunset. We feel privileged to own this property on the river and enjoy sharing it with others.
What makes this property unique
The most unique part of this house is the feeling I get each time I walk in the front door. I see the water, kick off my shoes and feel instantly relaxed. I think you will too!!
