Classic Tuscan Farmhouse with large fenced pool in hills near Lucca, sleeps 14
Casa Lacche is nestled in a idyllic spot near the beautiful medieval city of Lucca. Surrounded by meadows filled with wildflowers, the house has an away-from-it all feel. Sleeping 14 in comfort, with a fenced 12 metre saltwater pool, large garden, 2 living rooms and a big well-equipped kitchen, it's perfect for multi-generation holidays, or groups. Summer days pass at their own pace, in the pool, under the pergola, with long lazy lunches and dinner under the stars. Lucca is 30 minutes away. Florence just over an hour. Our nearest town, Ponte A Moriano, has a variety of great restaurants, from a bar/pizzeria to fine dining, and a gelateria which is one of the best-known in the area.
If you do need to work, or you have teens who need their devices to work, we have recently installed super-fast wifi throughout the house. All rooms are now video-call ready.
The house is on 2 floors. Upstairs there are 6 spacious bedrooms (5 doubles and a twin + bunks), and two bathrooms: a family bathroom and a shower room with toilet and basin.
Downstairs there's a generous double/twin bedroom with large modern ensuite bathroom which works well for those who find stairs a challenge.
The large traditional farmhouse kitchen is equipped with a 6-ring Smeg range, 2 dishwashers and 2 fridges. The separate utility room with washer dryer means you can keep the laundry under control and out of sight. Next to the utility room is an additional downstairs toilet.
Two living rooms with open fires provide plenty of space to relax in the evenings or out of the sun.
The garden is large, and recently landscaped. The shaded garden terrace is perfect for long lunches. In the evening, we have a cocktail on the west-facing terrace, watching the sun dip behind the distant mountains. We have dinner on the same terrace, sometimes putting something on the big Weber barbecue. For a special occasion, we can arrange a cook. Or you can buy oven-ready lasagna and other local favourites from the deli in Ponte A Poriano. For a memorable evening, book the cook to make pizza on our traditional pizza oven.
The beaches of the Versiglia coast are just over an hour away. For the more adventurous, the Garfagnana national park is nearby and provides opportunities for hiking, kayaking and canyoning, etc.

Thank you Helen - I’m so pleased you all had a good time. Giada said you were lovely to look after. Safe onward travels a and come back soon!
We had a very nice stay. A lot of place to stay with 12 persons, enough bathrooms, a big kitchen with plenty of tools. We used the pizza oven and both options to sit outside. The house is in the country side, so there are not much passengers. You can easily walk up to the ruins of a church. The way to the house is a bit tricky, but you get quickly used to it.If you are looking for a calm and peaceful place in the hills, you found it.We can recommend to book a wine tasting with food in the house. Perfect evening!

Great Italian farmhouse for young families. Enough space in and around the house to entertain 3 families. Very nice swimming pool and view of the mountains!
We had a great stay in this house. The swimmimg pool is amazing and a must in the hot days of summer. A bit warm inside the bedrooms at night, but with open windows it was OK. Would highly recommend it !

Hi Astrid - I'm sorry it's taken me so long to respond to your kind review. Yes, it was extremely hot when you were there - over 40 most of the week. I think it was Italy's warmest ever July - fortunately by August when we got there it had calmed down a lot. I'm glad you had a good stay, despite the horrible heatwave! Best wishes, Lucy
Lucy is a great host and also Giacomo and Giada are wonderfull people. The house breathes Toscany, has a good vibe and is very clean and beautiful. We enjoyed our stay very much and hopefully we will be back again someday.

Thank you so much Michael and friends. We loved hosting you. Come back soon ;)
The view is amazing! But the road to the house was very difficult. So we didn’t go out a lot. But it is not nessecery to go out because everything is in the house en the pool is lovely. If you want to go out, the location is perfect. The beach is nearby and Lucca is a lovely city. The cleaning of the house could be a little bit beter. Especially the kitchen. We had a lovely vacation!

Dear Sabina - thank you for the review. I really appreciate it when people take the time to tell us how we can improve. I will reach out separately to get more details on the cleaning situation. That’s not good at all and I’m really sorry. Normally it’s great, so I’ll find out what’s gone wrong. But I’m glad you had a good holiday :) Lucy
LATER: as we’ve discussed, it turns out the previous renters left the house in terrible shape, so the team struggled to do all that was needed. But as we’ve discussed separately, no excuse. Various strategies now being deployed to make sure renters do their bit, and that it doesn’t happen again. Very best wishes. Lucy
We went to Lacche with eight adults and four kids and had a wonderful time there. The house is a very authentic Italian house with a huge garden and a very nice pool. We used the pizza oven twice and everyone had a lot of fun to prepare the pizza. The well equipped kitchen made cooking easy for our family. All family members were a bit sad when we had to leave.
Giacomo and Giada were really nice and friendly. We all would highly recommend this house with the beautiful landscape and an area with not so much tourism and nice little villages around.

Thank you so much Ingrid. We all loved having you to stay. And thank you for the restaurant recommendation - we will definitely check it out. :)
After a two year delay due to “circumstances”, our family gathered at Lacche for an amazing 2 week holiday.
From the beginning, we felt welcomed and at home. The beautiful pool was a respite in the heat and the terrace was the perfect place for quiet early mornings or festive evening meals.
The gravel road to the villa was a bit of a challenge, but my Sons-in-law mastered it quickly.
I highly recommend this home if you are looking for a place to retreat from the crowds and enjoy the beautiful Tuscan countryside. We were all very sad to leave and hope we can return again.

Thank you so much Gayle. We were so glad you finally got to come, and that your patience paid off. It's always so lovely when people enjoy our house as much as we do. All of the team here at Lacche hope that we'll welcome you all here again soon. Best wishes. Lucy
Just amazing property Lucca was lovely. The road leading to the house was no joke its really off-road. I had a rubbish car and it made it but you need to have some vague confidence.
Pizza night organised was really enjoyable had a smashing time.
Id say the house is definitely child safe but for a really active 1 year old we found ourselves constantly having to monitor him every second he was awake. But it’s defiantly manageable really nice stay and well worth the visit.
We absolutely blessed each day at this property. Yes, we had some ossues but all comes with the territory in this old of house. Every issues was quickly delt with by the owner and hosts. There were 9 of us ranging from age 9 to 67 and the house was so big we never felt on top of each other. The road in the first time is an adventure but you get used to it and becomes part of the experience. 100% recommend to those seeking to be out in the countryside with charm and luxury.

Thank you so much for your lovely review Chris. If there was a 6* review for guests, we'd have awarded it to you all. Come again very soon. You know where we are now :)
Beautiful house as described. Perfect for big families. Only the access road is a bit difficult, we had a Renault Espace which struggled on the dirt road due to the gradient of the road, but we were lucky as no rain. House is close to Lucca which is a very nice town to visit. 1 hr from Florence airport. Well located for food shopping. Nice view of the surrounding mountains, we were lucky to see deers in the morning in the front garden. We had Fabrizio on one of the night to cook traditional dinner for the whole family which I highly recommend. Very easy check in Giacomo was there for any queries as well as Lucy. Thank you for everything.

Happy New Year Carole - thank you for your lovely kind review. I am so glad you had a good time. Do come back again in the summer. Best wishes. Lucy
We had a fabulous stay for a 40th birthday. Great info provided by Lucy re: supermarkets, village shops, restaurants and the road to reach the villa. Lucy recommended Giada and Giocomo to come to the house to cook us a meal (accommodating food intolerances with no problem) and have wine tasting. Absolutely amazing food- all home grown produce and cooking from Giada and the paired wine and what we learned about it was amazing. Giocomo was so helpful and kind, giving us great pointers for places to park and visit that were lesser known to tourists. We got quite a few mosquito bites so we couldn’t sit under the shaded seating area near the pool but you can’t control the surrounding nature! The boys were very sad to leave the pool- a great size, nice and deep in the deep end and a great experience with the sun going down over the mountains into the evening. Thank you for letting us stay!

We recently stayed in an authentic Tuscan house nestled in the countryside. The place is full of charm and character, with stone walls, wooden bed frames, and seven bedrooms, some equipped with very firm mattresses (which some may love, others less so…). The setting is peaceful, perfect for switching off and enjoying nature. That said, getting there isn’t easy. The house is only reachable by car, and preferably one with good suspension for the bumpy rural roads.A few practical notes for future guests: • Some electrical appliances were not functioning properly • The swimming pool is surrounded by prairie fields and attracts its fair share of insects • The pool water was somewhat cloudy and could benefit from a bit more maintenance, though still enjoyable on a warm summer day • The garden and outdoor furniture could use a refresh, with overgrown vegetation and worn-out seatingIn short: a property with genuine potential and a soul, ideal for those seeking a simple, rustic retreat. Just be ready for a few quirks along the way. A good match for nature lovers and fans of quiet countryside stays, less so for travelers expecting polished luxury.

Hello there
I’m so sorry that you found some elements of the house not up to standard. We always try to explain to our guests that this is a rustic farmhouse, not a luxury villa. But have taken your point, and have just bought a new set of pool furniture, and will get an election to look at all the appliances. With a big house, and a lot of guests, things get broken, and I’m not always told about it. Thank you for your feedback: it’s how we get better, and I appreciate the effort to help us - and other guests. Best wishes.
The house is in a stunning location. The views are amazing, and you are well placed for trips out to Florence, Pisa, north into the mountains. The house is rustic, full of character, love, charm and quirks. It offers an authentic Tuscan lifestyle.
The rooms are huge with terracotta floors (a bit uneven) and huge beams in the ceiling. New windows, with shutters, keep the rooms cool.
Don’t expect a fitted kitchen, you sit round the huge kitchen table to prepare and eat meals as a family, or outside on the terrace with pots of lemon trees or under cover at the side.
There’s one large wardrobe on the landing shared by all the bedrooms, but you really don’t need a posh frock here. Lovely big pool with a view and an outside shower, and shaded area, just down the path from the house. We loved the wildflowers, birdsong, rustling of the aspen trees (no manicured lawns here). Horses graze nearby and one day a fox ambled past. It’s very quiet, not remote as there are other houses dotted around the hillside, but a few kilometres of difficult road/track to get to any amenities. A smaller car is better for the narrow rough track. We only drove it once a day and never in the dark, but it was worth it to live with that view.

About the host
Hosted by Lucy VW
We are the Wilkinsons - Nick and Lucy, and our teenaged children. We fell in love with this part of the world years ago, and in 2015 our dreams came true when we bought this lovely farmhouse from the artist who had owned it for the last 30 years. As long-term expats, we finally had a home of our own. After 2 years of renovation, last year I had my 50th birthday here. We had between 14 and 18 people in the house over a 2 week period - with the kids sleeping in a small marquee that my father had commissioned years ago. Totally crazy, it was a summer that we will all remember for ever.
Why they chose this property
Over the years, we looked at a number of different houses. But when we got the pictures for this one in the dark January of 2015, we had that strange prickly feeling that this could be the one. We flew over to look at it, and fell in love with the lovely square house with tons of space for everyone, its huge farmhouse kitchen. Inside the house it was very simply decorated, but what there was was beautifully done. And then there was the spectacular view. It's never the same, and we could look at it for ever. We built the pool in 2016, because in the roasting days of August, you need a swim. We put in new windows and central heating, and straightened a floor or 2 a bit, but otherwise we've left it as much as we could. We love it more every year.
