About this property

Bartlehill Cottage, Idyllic Pet Friendly Cottage, Beautiful Scottish Borders

No.4 Bartlehill is a delightful, traditional, stone built semi-detached cottage situated in beautiful rural countryside in the heart of the Scottish Borders.

Overlooking the Cheviot Hills, the cottage sits in a quiet, elevated position and affords stunning views over the surrounding rolling countryside. Set between the lovely Border towns of Kelso and Coldstream, Bartlehill is located along a private road and is the perfect haven to visit with family, friends and/or pets and explore all the borders has to offer.

The cottage, which can sleep up to six guests, has been completely renovated & furnished to a very high standard, and is exceptionally well equipped to ensure our guests have all they need for a comfortable and relaxing stay.
The living area downstairs is open plan but retains its features and cosiness with its the log burning stove (logs supplied), and ample comfortable seating; there is a 39" Smart TV and DVD player and free Wi-Fi; a large DVD library suitable for all ages, and a selection of board games, books and local maps to plan trips and walks.
The kitchen has also been tastefully refurbished with its ample cupboard space and marble worktops and (hopefully) has everything you could possibly need, featuring a large table and chairs from which you can enjoy the beautiful scenery whilst dining, a dishwasher, washing machine and all you would expect in a kitchen.
Also, downstairs is the first bedroom with a small double bed and an ensuite with full facilities.
Upstairs there are two good sized bedrooms which are light, and airy. Both can be made up either with two single beds or a super king size bed in each room. There is a large bathroom, again with full facilities. Central heating throughout.

The garden, set mainly to lawn with shrubs and its lovely plum tree is secure and the perfect spot to relax, if the weather is good enjoy some al fresco dining (barbeque available), and ideal for children and dogs.
There are wonderful walks straight from the door, the closest being along the path cut through the small woodland immediately behind the cottage. We happily accept dogs and there is no additional charge for bringing them. There is off road parking with enough space for several cars, and we have converted the garage into a games rooms with a table football and ping pong - perfect for letting off a bit of steam. There is a tennis court and a full-sized cricket net which are both available upon request.
In nearby Leitholm, is the popular village pub ‘The Plough’ which is cosy, serves good food and allows dogs.

About the host

I live with my husband, Peter and three children at Bartlehill. We have lived in the Scottish Borders since 1996 when we moved from London. Peter is Scottish, and although not from the Borders, we knew the area well and loved it so much decided it was where we wanted to bring up our family. I have never regretted the move and love the countryside, the people and the peace

Why they chose this property

The views from Bartlehill Cottage are stunning and vary from day to day. You look across the countryside to the Cheviots from the front and from the rear you can see to Hume Castle. It's centrally based in The Borders so gives easy access to the wonderful beaches on the east coast, an hour north to Edinburgh, the lovely towns of Kelso and Melrose to the west, and the Cheviot Hills and Northumberland to the south.
