We really enjoyed our stay! Michelle was amazing at communicating and answering questions. The house had so much charm, was clean and comfortable! It was close to everything. We walked to the Alamo and the riverwalk easily. Thank you so much!

Historic Home a Perfect '10'
This house scores a perfect ‘10’ on the Home Away/San Antonio checklist… Convenient (and free) parking; immaculate interior; lovely wood floors; historic adobe walls. Within a few blocks are delicious Tex Mex and american cuisine (La Panaderia); heavenly coffee and french pastries (Commonwealth); a dazzling, kids-friendly park (Hemisfair); and access to the unsurpassed Riverwalk. Within a couple miles is the Pearl, a restored, early 1900s distillery. Travel a few more miles and discovery an authentic spanish restaurant (Toro Kitchen & Bar).

Location,location,location
The house was perfectly located for my meeting at the Convention Center. The owner, Michele, was very responsive.
On the other hand, the house is 130 years old. This makes it quaint and gives it character. The central air works well as does the plumbing, for such an old place. On the other hand, the door knob fell off when we arrived (owner promptly fixed it the next day), and my wife never could get in the front door (you have to jiggle the deadbolts just the right angle).
Since it is so old, there is only one dresser with some drawers for your clothes in bedroom 2 (not in the master bedroom) and a makeshift closet, converted out an old storage cupboard, in the dining room, where you can hang your clothes. Getting dressed in the morning is a naked hike around the house. The windows have external shutters and no curtains, by the way.
The "TV" is the most basic subscription of only a few channels, about a dozen, 50% of which are in Spanish and few of which are the usual cable channels. Bring your own movies or your own connection to home.
There is no parking on the street and no driveway. You drive up an alley around back, get out of the car, open a gate and park on the back yard, which was pretty muddy when it rained. It's unclear if you then need to get out and pull the gate closed before you go in, or just leave the gate open. After a while, we gave up and left the gate open.
Overall, it is clean, well-located and cutesy quaint in its antiquity, but certainly not posh. Know what you are getting and you will find it charming, but a little challenging.

Dear James: Sorry to hear you felt "challenged" in our home. I was surprised to hear the items you listed since I personally checked in with you multiple times during your stay and you gave me positive feedback. I'm glad our primo location worked out well for your conference. We have had numerous 5 stars reviews before yours that point out tons of positive attributes to our historic home (and I do advertise it as "HISTORIC"). I think a modern home/or hotel is best for your future trips. We strive to please our guest on many levels but unfortunately, our hands were tied on this one since you didn't voice your concerns until you were long gone. Wishing you safe, and successful future travels. Take Care, Michelle
This is the 2nd year we stayed at this property for TMEA. It’s so nice to have free parking and a fenced-in yard for the kids to play in! So close to restaurants and the convention center (10-15 minute walk). Highly recommend for a family of 4!
This is a perfect location for visiting downtown San Antonio by foot. The old place has its old time charm and was very clean. The neighborhood felt very safe. Definitely would stay again if an opportunity arises.
We needed to run to San Antonio for a High School Marching Contest. Not wanting to hit a hotel downtown, but wanting to be close to Alamodome and night life... this was a perfect solution.
Entire cottage was perfectly appointed and was able to hit some fantastic restaurants during our stay. Very convenient to night life and all the beds were very comfortable.
Look forward to hitting this place next time I need to travel to San Antonio!!
This house was perfect for our family of 6. It was walking distance to many locations (tower of America’s, Riverwalk, Alamo, etc) and if you don’t want to walk there are scooters and bikes you can rent right outside the property. Several restaurants, shops and drinking holes within a short walk to choose from. Will be staying here again for sure.
1950ish 2 bedrooms 1 bath, and u have to go thru the main bedroom to get to the bathroom,no washer or dryer. It serves it's purpose for a short trip. Good parking.

Great Lication & wonderful hist
Michelle is very accommodating and easy to work with. This cute historic home is just a short walk from La Villita and the Riverwalk and is surrounded by some great local restaurants. We recently stayed here for the second time and would definitely stay again. You have off street parking and don’t really need to use your car after arriving.

Great location, great accommodations!!
This property is perfectly located for any downtown stay. It was surprisingly quiet for how close the house was to other businesses. For the price, location and secured parking it was worth it.

So nice for a family!
This house was closer to the Convention Center than a lot of hotels I stayed at in the past. Much cozier and private when you have kids. It was like our home away from home! And FREE parking?! So nice!

Cute house, wonderful location!
We had a wonderful stay with 2 adults and 2 kids (10 & 14). This house had everything we needed and was perfect walking distance to the Alamo, Alamodome & Riverwalk. There are also several off the path restaurants and bars really close by. It is an old house but that gives it a lot of charm and the house is well taken care of and loved! We appreciated the conservation of what seems to be the original doors and windows. The house has been cared for with its history in mind. It is close to downtown but we felt safe walking everywhere and even after dark. Michelle was wonderful! Would stay here again without question. Thank you!

Beautiful, cozy, perfect location
From pre-reservation to post check out our experience was phenomenal! Michelle, the owner, was courteous, accommodating and helpful. The check in and check out was a breeze. The home is beautiful, roomy, well kept and beautifully decorated. Plenty of dishes, linens, pillows and towels. Water pressure was AMAZING! Only kinda weird thing was the bathroom is in one of the bedrooms but that didn’t bother me or my other guests. It’s was just like we were in a hotel except much roomier and less expensive. The on-site gated parking, super close proximity to attractions (less than a 1/2 mile), the airport (15 minutes drive) and dining is perfect. I highly recommend this home for your next SA stay!

About the host
Hosted by Michelle Senecal
We are Texan's who have traveled the world and lived in several other states but proudly choose to call San Antonio, TX home! We have a love for history, antiques, and historic architecture. Having used VRBO in the past for our own family, we decided to share our unique property with you. Come be our guest and fall in love with this prime location and downtown SA as much as we have.
Why they chose this property
We were blessed to purchase this small piece of history and fell in love with it's unique German architecture, stone caliche walls, hardwood floors, relaxing front porch, and it's fantastic proximity to downtown San Antonio. Something our family has personally enjoyed and we have also enjoyed sharing this with family and friends when visiting our great city of San Antonio. We have plenty of visitor guides, local attraction brochures, and coupon books available for you upon arrival. Enjoy!
What makes this property unique
EVERYTHING is unique about this property, from the antique front doors, red oak hardwood floors, caliche stone walls, tall antique windows, etc. However, my favorite unique item of this home are the small Indian boy and girl built into our caliche stone kitchen wall that serve as protectors of our home. Please say "hello" to them during your visit!
