Historic restored 'Pigeonnier' and converted barn amid award-winning vineyard
This beautifully-converted barn and traditional ‘Pigeonnier’ is the perfect way to immerse yourself in the tranquility of the French countryside. Less than 90 minutes from Bordeaux and only two miles from the historic ‘bastide’ fortress town of Monsegur, the property is ideal for families and small groups looking for a private, self-catered experience.
Set within seven acres and dating back to the mid-1800s, the recently-refurbished Pigionner looks out over the Dropt river valley and the vines of the award-winning Chateau La Tuilierie du Puy vineyard. Nestled in the heart of one of France’s most beloved wine regions, the property is an oasis of calm that’s only a moderate drive from famous market towns such as St Emilion and Bergerac.
Newly-fitted with air conditioning and radiant underfloor heating to ensure ideal temperatures at any time of year, the Pigeonnier’s private driveway, garden, and covered patio opens up into the heart of the converted barn, refurbished with adjoining fully-equipped kitchen, utility space, and WC. The master bedroom and en-suite bathroom remains quiet and cool even in the summer, and the pigeon tower itself is furnished with a twin bedroom that offers incredible views over the surrounding farmland, as well as its own toilet and bathroom facilities.
A swimming pool (11m x 4.5m) is attached to the owner’s neighboring property, and access is shared with Pigeonnier residents. A retractable cover keeps the water warm well into October (and even later for the truly brave!), while a shelter provides poolside shade from the midday sun in summer. Additional amenities, including wi-fi, a cot and mattress, high-chair, sun loungers, and outdoor table and chairs are provided. The nearby town of Monsegur has a pharmacy, supermarket, bars, cafes, and restaurants, hosts a weekly produce market year-round, and runs its famous ‘night market’ throughout the summer. Additional shops can be found in La Reole, a 20-minute drive from the property with direct rail connections to Bordeaux.
A staple of traditional French architecture rejuvenated with a modern twist, the Pigeonnier is a quiet retreat situated in some of the region’s most idyllic countryside and between its most thriving market towns. The perfect place to relax and drink in both France’s natural beauty and its most beloved export, the property is a tranquil base to allow you to enjoy the countryside whatever way you choose.

About the host
Hosted by Nicole Jones
Bonjour, I’m Nicole. Originally from Guadeloupe in the Caribbean, I have made my home between Le Puy and London for over 20 years. I spend each summer living in the farmhouse adjoining the Pigeonnier, joining in with rambling groups, being involved in the local historical society, and enjoying the cultural events hosted in Monsegur. During my stays, I am always on-hand to share my knowledge of the region with my guests, to make sure they get as much from staying here as I do.
Why they chose this property
The Pigeonnier is perfectly secluded, part of a quiet hilltop hamlet set among acres of farmland and nestled within the award-winning vines of the Chateaux Aux Tuilieries vineyard. But what I love most is that alongside the quiet is plenty to see and do; long walks in the countryside, live music and excellent food at Monsegur’s night market (between June and September), or day-trips to the historic town of St Emilion, to Bordeaux, or even as far as the coast at Arcachon.
What makes this property unique
At The Pigeonnier, you’re able to stay inside a unique part of French architecture, part of something that has shaped this region for hundreds of years. My family has lived here for more than 40 years since my sons helped renovate the main farmhouse in the 1980s, enjoying the tranquility, culture, and excellent food and drink that this part of France offers. Positioned right next door to an award-winning vineyard and within perfect day-trip distance of beautiful, historic towns, it’s a secluded spot that leaves south-west France right on its doorstep.
