La Stalla is a stylishly restored barn set on a traditional working farm in the medieval hilltop village of Sillico, in the heart of Garfagnana, Northern Tuscany. This is one of Tuscany’s most beautiful and unspoilt mountain regions, known for dramatic scenery, authentic villages and outstanding walking and outdoor activities.
The house combines rustic stone architecture with modern, comfortable interiors. The large open plan living area is bright and spacious, with contemporary furnishings set against the original barn structure. There are three bedrooms and three bathrooms, making it ideal for families or small groups. The fully equipped kitchen includes dishwasher, oven and fridge freezer, and there is also a washing machine for convenience.
Outside, the panoramic setting is exceptional. The large shared 12 x 6 metre pool enjoys breathtaking views across the Apuan Alps, with spectacular sunsets over the valley. A spacious terrace provides plenty of room for outdoor dining and relaxing. There is a BBQ and a traditional wood fired pizza oven for long summer evenings.
This property is particularly popular with families. Children can enjoy the adventure playground, flying fox, table tennis and table football, while parents relax by the pool or take in the mountain views. Being part of a genuine working farm adds to the experience, with horses, sheep and goats on site and the opportunity to purchase local farm products including cheese, salami, chestnut flour and preserves.
Sillico itself is a small, characterful medieval village sitting at 700 metres above sea level. There is a well known family run restaurant just one minute from the property, famous locally for its terrace sunsets and traditional cooking. In August, the village hosts a popular medieval festival. The nearest supermarkets, other food shops and restaurants are in the town of Pieve Fosciana which is under 10 minutes drive at the bottom of the hill. The main market town of Castelnuovo di Garfagnana is about 15 minutes away, offering supermarkets, shops, restaurants and a train station with direct trains to Lucca in approximately 50 minutes.
Garfagnana is widely regarded as the best area of Tuscany for walking. Clearly marked trails, mountain biking routes, horse riding, canoeing and world class canyoning are all available locally.
Despite its peaceful mountain setting, La Stalla is still well positioned for visiting Tuscany’s most famous cities. Lucca is about 50 minutes by car. Pisa is approximately 1.5 hours. Florence can be reached in around 2 hours. The Cinque Terre is also about 2 hours away, making day trips entirely possible while returning each evening to peace and fresh mountain air.
If you are looking for authentic Tuscany, dramatic scenery and space to relax, while still being able to explore Florence, Lucca, Pisa and the coast, La Stalla offers the best of both worlds.
