A winding wooded trail leads down to Kotsu, a whimsical miniature, perched above rural Lookout Valley. Entering through shou sugi ban front doors, you'll find a full kitchen, living area, and powder room on the main level. Inspired by Japanese nature-inclusive designs, a covered exterior stair leads down to the bedroom and a spacious master bath. We've stayed at a fair number of rental properties over the years but this might be our new favorite! The space is clean and incredibly well supplied (a charcoal grill!!) and charming in its layout. The hosts were super friendly and responsive. But the thing that tips this one over is the view. The pictures just can't do it justice. We felt like we were perched on the edge of the mountain. Nicely isolated from nearby houses, too. The walk up and down is a challenge - we're in our early 50s and were glad we took the hosts advice and packed light - but well worth it! It was a wonderful trip and I hope we make it back soon!

Quiet little cabin with a beautiful view of the mountains. It was split into two separate rooms, with covered outdoor stairs leading down to the bedroom with a nice deep tub and mounted tv. The bed was prepared with folded towels and a gift bag of toiletries. Upstairs room had a full kitchen with oven and stovetop, microwave, full size fridge, coffee maker, French press, and a dining table for two. Windows all across the back walls of both rooms meant you’ll always be catching glimpses of the mountains and scenery. Be prepared for a short hiking trail-type path to get from the parking to the property! But it definitely adds to the feeling of actually being up in the mountains. This house was the one furthest down the path, giving a truly clear view.

I'm going to leave an honest review for people to read! My stay was okay. I honestly would have left a better review if it wasn't for the EXTREMELY sunken in/uncomfortable mattress! I didn't even mind that the kitchen/fridge/upstairs isnt connected to the downstairs, which they don't show in the photos so therefore you would have to go outside everytime to go between the two. My main thing was the bed was soo sunken in that both my wife and I kept rolling towards the middle throughout the night and neither of us were able to sleep. I woke up with such bad back pain and after it had been helped by the amazing bath tub downstairs which I truly did love the night before! Definitely not worth the price I paid for a single night stay. ALSO make sure you get there during the daytime and not the nightime like we did because it is a rough walkway down to the actual cabin and there were no instructions given as to where it was located exactly down the hill and there are others at that same address down the walking path. My advice to the owners, as much as you charge for a single night stay buy a new mattress so people don't leave in pain! P.S. I am never one to leave lengthy reviews usually, let alone bad ones if that tells you anything!

Great Getaway

was a great place to escape for a few days during the busy holidays! Loved the views and feel of being on the side of the mountain! Went to Rock City, which was close by but besides there stayed, cooked and hung out at this awesome little place.

Great cabin with privacy and a great mountain view. Not a good option for the mobility challenged, as there’s a fairly steep downward trail (that means rocks, dirt, and tree roots) from the parking spaces to the cabin. There are three small cabins on this property, and Kotsu is the farthest one, so be prepared for a three-minute hike to get to/from the cabin. Also recommend wearing hiking shoes/boots for better traction, and packing light. There are string lights along the path for lighting at night, but using a flashlight is still a good idea.For being a bit off the beaten path, the cabin has all appliances—refrigerator, stove, microwave, dishwasher, and clothes washer and dryer. It also has full plumbing, electric, and even Wi-Fi. This cabin has an upstairs (kitchen, sitting area, half bathroom) and downstairs (bedroom, full bath, laundry closet), but with only exterior stairs. The deck just outside of the lower level with the mountain view is not big, but a deck extension is under construction (appeared to be about 75% complete), so that will be improved soon.The big tub in the bathroom was a nice touch. A few cons, though: the memory foam mattress left a little to be desired, and the full bathroom adjacent to the bedroom had no doors—my wife and I were fine with it, but some may not be. The latter makes this not a good choice for those bringing children along.Overall, it’s a great little cabin in a great location, near Chattanooga, Rock City, and many hiking trails.

Great little getaway!

We had a horrible experience flying into the area, but as soon as we pulled up to house that all melted away. We enjoyed the scenery and spent a bit of time on the deck outside. We would come back in a heartbeat!

Amazing little quaint tiny home

Kotsu is a beautiful little tiny home with great views of the valley. One thing that stood out...the bath tub, very nice! Recommend staying here for a relaxing, peaceful vacay.

We fell in love the themed deco from the listing. Once we arrived and saw it in person we cancelled all plans of hiking in the area and we locked ourselves in for the weekend. We had the best time.

One of the most unique experiences we've had in the mountains! Quaint, clean and comfortable. We really enjoyed the stay. Tips:*you cannot see the property from the road and the sign with the address is only visible if you are coming from the north of scenic highway. Look for a gravel parking pad with a mailbox/ road marker on left and a wooden trash box on right. *the trail to the cabin is a nice little short hike in itself. Downhill to get there/uphill to get to your car- not ideal for an elderly couple needing support, but we loved the adventure , the cabin is situated in the middle of 3*the tub is gorgeous and deep but I assumed it was also a shower- it is only a tub with a handheld sprayer- as a "shower person" I made it work*the bed is quite soft and cozy on a 2-3 inch elevated surface mimicking a rug, so be aware to take the tiny step up

Beautiful but..

Super cool Japanese style cottage with beautiful views. Two issues prevented 5 star rating. First it is a bit of a hike down a steep dirt and rock path to the cabin from the parking, not for the mobility impaired for sure. Second, the mattress in the bedroom left much to be desired.

We had a great time staying here! View was amazing and we had everything we needed. Host was very quick to respond and was very kind and courteous. I think for anyone with mobility or trouble walking mountainous paths should consider a a different cabin as you do have to walk on a trail to get to the cabin. Wasn't much trouble for me and my friend but for someone who has trouble walking or hiking in general it might be a bit of a challenge. If you enjoy hiking in the mountains, and don't have any mobility issues the trail should be no problem and I would 100% recommend you stay.
