About this property

Private with spectacular views and direct beach access

This is the ideal getaway destination! Urquharts Bay is located near the end of the Whangarei Heads peninsula and is a picturesque 35 minute drive from central Whangarei. The house is in a prime elevated waterfront location with direct access to the Urquharts Bay beach and many popular hiking trails. It is very private and quiet with stunning harbour, mountain and sunset views. The house was recently fully renovated and has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. All linen and towels are provided. Pets welcome by arrangement.
Urquharts Bay is safe, sheltered bay great for all water activities and easy for boat launching. You can access some very good fishing spots just 10 minutes from the beach and for those without a boat it's just a short walk along to the Urquharts Bay jetty - another popular local fishing spot. For surfers, Ocean Beach, is only 3 minutes drive away. The beach is patrolled by lifeguards in summer.
Back on land there are numerous walking tracks in the area that showcase the stunning coastal environment. These vary in fitness levels and duration. From Urquharts Bay, you can explore the Smugglers Bay walk and the Peach Cove track or for the more ambitious the 6 hour hike to Ocean Beach. From the property you can also see Mt Lion, Mt Manaia and Mt Aubrey, all manageable walks with breathtaking views of the coastline and harbour.
Tennis racquets are available should you wish to use the local tennis courts. The property has over an acre of gardens which is contained but not fully fenced so please be mindful if you bring young children or a four legged family member, especially as our immediate neighbours have free range chickens. Whangarei Heads is a kiwi sanctuary. Also most of the DOC walking tracks do not allow dogs but they are welcome in Urquharts Bay and Ocean Beach. Urquharts Bay is truly a unique place to vacation and has so much to offer. You can do as much or as little as you like and the weather is rarely an issue.

Since COVID 19 restrictions we have stopped taking instant bookings to allow extra time for cleaning and a longer break between bookings. We will respond to all booking enquiries as a matter of urgency and we also understand that plans can change and so we offer a relaxed refund policy. Travellers who cancel at least 14 days before check-in will get back 100% of the amount they've paid. If they cancel between 7 and 14 days before check-in, they'll get back 50%.

Amazing property that is even better in real life - the pictures do not do that view justice! Everything was super clean. Beds were comfortable, with cozy bedding. The kitchen was lovely to use - everything you need to make a meal was to hand. Host was responsive and very easy to deal with. We will be back!

A perfect stay in Urquarts Bay

This was our second stay and was as enjoyable as the first. The views from the elevated position are delightful. It’s very private and the house has everything needed for a comfortable stay.

Views superb, house delightful, five stars for sure!

This is our third stay and it is an area we love with walking tracks we enjoy. The house is comfortable, spacious and sited to maximise the views while being very private.

Our hosts were very communicative and welcoming. The lead picture of the bay and peninsula are exactly as shown. Imagine waking up to, and enjoying that view all day...That is actually what you see from the main living area, and even off the primary bedroom deck too.
Taken from the sunroom, this view is something to behold.

We had a really enjoyable stay in this wonderful holiday home with sensational views. Perfectly located to pick up some great walks to the beach, around the headland or some more challenging ones to Peach Cove or Bream Head! Planning on a return next year already!

Gorgeous views and lovely stay

With partner and pooch in tow for the long weekend, we found the Bach a sun catching spot to relax in with lots of nooks and crannies to read, nap and enjoy local and home cooked meals. It was so nice, the partners parents saw photos and wanted to pop in for lunch on their way down from their break north. Everyone thought it was a special find and we’d definitely consider coming back without the pooch, so we can do some local national park treks next time.

Great views and a very comfortable house. We really enjoyed our stay.

Only suggestion would be to add a heated towel rail to the bathroom. We had some rainy weather during our stay and it hard to get the towels to dry each day.

Everything is as described but only better. Perfect location perched on a hill with views over the harbour. House was clean and tidy with everything you need, comfy beds. The spa was a perfect way to top off the day.

Balance of utility and style for a couple of couples

Kitchen, bathrooms (critically 2 of them) look good and are more than functional. A sprawling property gave plenty of space for 2 vehicles and a boat and a bit of isolation if you wanted to read a tree under a book. Proximity to walks, beaches and boat ramps means you are well furnished for play. If you want to chill the views are awesome from the deck or sunroom. The ice maker keeps your gin and tonic cold and the multiple heat pumps take care of everything else if you aren't chilling on the deck. You are in your own oasis, or head down the path to the waterfront with everyone else. Vendors were super helpful as was their neighbour who we thanked with a sixpack for letting us use his carport to turn the boat around.

Adult Playhouse in a beautiful setting

We could not have asked for a more perfect "getaway". From the beautiful long private drive that opens onto a vista of Urquharts Bay, to the delightful open to the view house with hot tub, we were blown away. The kitchen had more than everything you need, except maybe a pizza pan. We loved sitting in the sun room overlooking the bay and head. Bedrooms and baths were comfortable and well furnished. The grounds were very private with multiple areas to meander or sit,like the picnic table on the point! A lot of thought and care has gone into this home and we appreciated the ability to spend 4 nights in such a lovely location. Just a few suggestions: directions on how to use the oven(we had to call the neighbor) and also easier directions with the television. Also, where to find the house lockbox and not the shed's, This was our 3rd trip to Whangarei Heads and we will be back! 33rd trip to NZ.
