I chose this property due to it accepting pets, private location, and the great reviews. Now I’m really not sure that they are real reviews. Property is private off grid with more like a swamp to look at. Of course best picture looks amazing; it’s not. Best cool room was the enclosed porch which had ripped screens and holes. Good amount of large ants in the kitchen area and randomly on walls. Did not dare to open the pull out couch for fear of what might crawl out. Guestbook mentioned that due to baby birds in the shower they did not shower. Felt itchy and wasn’t sure if more than mosquitoes were inside. Humid and hot, even with all windows open it was suffocating. As soon as I found a room somewhere else we left.
This property was wonderful! Everything was cozy, comfortable, clean, and as-advertised. The entire area felt secluded and private which led to us feeling tranquil, serene, and peaceful all weekend long. Excellent place for our dogs and children, too! Certainly a place where you need to keep a close eye on your kids all the time (spiral staircase, hilly terrain, etc.) but such an amazing place for them to explore and be kids! It’s “off grid” but very easy to manage! If you’re looking for a peaceful weekend escape, or a tranquil getaway, this is the place you should be booking! The hosts really went above and beyond with decorating the space, making it feel “home-y,” and outfitting the cabin with just about everything you might need during your stay. The hosts communicated with us from the time we booked through when we were leaving - Highly recommend!
Wonderful camp with excellent boat house.Kitchen had everything we need. Beds were comfortable. Shower in master bath was awesome. Living room is comfortable. Very well cared for, clean, updated.Communication with owner was top notch.
You have the pond and house to yourself, hidden away from the road; it's great escape from everything. Bring a telescope or binoculars, it gets legitimately dark and the stars are wonderful.
My friends and I had such a good time here, the water felt incredible and it was so nice waking up and hopping out in the water on a kayak. We will definitely be back! Everything about this trip was perfect.
This is the perfect offgrid cabin to stay! Everything in one place we didnt need to leave! Close to town. We cant wait to go again. Owners are amazing!
We loved our stay here! It was definitely one of the most relaxing vacations we have been on. The property is so perfect. We spent the day outside on the lake. We brought our paddle board with us and it was so nice to explore with. The house has everything you need. The beds were comfortable. We loved everything about it!
The property was gorgeous. Even when we couldn’t figure out the stove (Oy) they came right away to help. Sweetest people, beautiful place. Amazing family vacation, we’ve already decided to book ASAP for next summer. Thank you!
Exactly as described in the website! We were very happy with the cabin, the cleanliness, and the location. The owners provided everything that we needed to enjoy - we only needed to bring water, flashlights. and food, plus our bedding. The dogs loved it, and we did too! Would definitely stay again.
We had a great vacation on Jaybird Pond, swimming, kayaking, hiking and making family memories.
Renters should know that the property does not have running water or electricity. The property managers help you figure out how to boil the pond water and use the propane lamps.
If you’re willing to rough it, you can’t beat the experience of having your own pond.
I stayed here with my fiancé and two dogs. The unplugged feel while still having cell service and a quick 15 minute jump to town is amazing. Solar lights around the property, and the propane run appliances make this the perfect get away for me. I started everyday with hikes with the dogs up the mountain and spent the rest of the time in a hammock I bought or fishing on the shoreline, mostly caught sunfish but a day on the lake is better than a day at work. 10/10 recommend we will be booking again!
We both very much enjoyed the cabin and the pond we were on. Only disappointment was we couldn't catch any fish except catfish. We still had fun, They provided a canoe but we also brought paddle boards. It was very peaceful and serene. You could hear the cars from the main road and the road going into the cabin is very rough. We had a small SUV and I felt I should of had a truck. All in all it was pleasant, peaceful and we were unplugged. I am heading back to work feeling refreshed.
Secluded and peaceful! We spent our 25th wedding anniversary at this little cabin on the pond. Such a great spot to enjoy the birds, fish, and frogs. Mornings were spent drinking coffee while kayaking and the days and nights finding ways to beat the 102 degree heat. A few suggestions for anyone staying here in the summer: 1. wear water shoes to keep some of the mucky bottom of the pond off your feet and for general walking around the immediate property. 2. Flip flops aren’t the greatest here because the terrain is very slopped, slippery pine cones/needles, and generally uneven ground. 3. Bring a battery operated fan or three or a small generator to use the outlets for fans. 4. We brought a Milwaukee Tools M18 Rover Compact Folding Flood Light w/USB charger as the gas and solar lights are limited. You’ll need extra light over the stove if cooking in the darker hours.5. If sleeping on the sofa bed, bring a thick mattress pad! Horribly uncomfortable. Not sure the existing mattress could be considered a mattress. 6. Personal preference: bring your own water if you don’t want to boil pond water for dishes or refill shower bags with the same. Lugging water up the steep incline from the pond isn’t fun, IMO.You can hear other nearby houses and traffic coming from the main road but nothing disruptive. 1-2 bar cell service in the event you need to stay connected to the world. I advise against that! Great location to reconnect, rejuvenate, and relax! We’ll be back!
Unfortunately, my stay was cut VERY short due to a medical emergency with my dog (which had nothing to do with the property). I only was able to stay one night, but will definitely be going back. In fact, the owner felt so badly about my situation, they've offered to have me back at no charge. I will definitely be booking in the future.
This location is ideal if you want privacy and the cabin is well appointed. It's kind of like glorified "glamping" with no running water or electricity. The gas lights are awesome and the gas refrigerator is perfect.
A couple of things I wish I had brought with me and will next time; a tablecloth for the outdoor picnic table, my camp water jug for dishes, folding chairs, and a good battery operated reading light. Other than that, I could've been very comfortable for the week!
We had a great time being off grid at this location! My 9 and 12 year old got back to being kids running around in nature again without technology and we reconnected as a family! The pond was great to kayak in, we did not swim though a bit murky for our taste but plenty of other places close by to swim. Would love to return in cooler weather, it was really hot when we visited.
We absolutely loved our stay at Jaybird. It was absolutely perfect for my wife, our two friends, and a pup. We will definitely be back, it is the epitome of New England Camp.
One Note: We arrived at night and had a VERY DIFFICULT time finding the road, Google, GPS, Apple Maps, none worked. We had no service so we could not call the hosts either. We ultimately found the gate after driving up and down the road a few times. If you arrive at night and come from the south, it is the very first (and somewhat hidden) pull-off on the left after passing a big white house.
We enjoyed our short stay at this rustic scenic pond-side cabin. It was easy to manage living without running water and electricity- a fun experience using solar and propane-fueled power. We appreciated options for fishing, kayaking, canoeing, and games. The property was well organized by the owners, who provided friendly support and clear communication.
For us, it was a comfortable and quiet place to stay, while we attended the music festival.
The cabin was amazing and so relaxing! Totally alone on the pond! My 2 year old had a ball fishing! He caught something with every cast! The outhouse was clean and we didn’t have any issues using that. We will be back!!

Why they chose this property
Jay Bird is the perfect getaway from the rush of daily life. Quiet and comfortable it offers peace and tranquility. Sip your morning coffee on the enclosed porch and watch the ducks and geese float by. Grab one of the canoes and fishing pole and try your luck for trout. Take a walk around the property for fresh some much needed fresh air. Spring fed water makes for clear swimming on a hot day. Roast some marshmallows at the fire pit and unwind from the day. Jay Bird has it all for those who just need a break from it all.
What makes this property unique
Jay Bird has been set up for off grid living, however we understand that life still has to happen. The cabin has been wired to allow you to bring your own generator. There are outlets throughout the cabin. Please ask us for more information regarding this.
