About this property
Secluded waterfront cabin in Porter Maine
The views from this secluded cottage are amazing. Perfect place if you enjoy your privacy, or love nature and just want to get away from it all. It has floor to ceiling glass and has a huge field stone fireplace. It is a true Maine cottage, constructed by Maine Cottage Builders. All beautiful wood inside. It has a large loft for children to play and a family friendly open living area. It is waterfront and has a deck at the water’s edge for swimming and later enjoying a drink in the late afternoons watching the sunset, it is located on 40 private acres with 900 feet of waterfront. The road into the property is approximately 3/4 of a mile long and is unpaved. It is maintained every year and is fine for an average car, or sport utility. Low riding luxury cars like mercedes, or sports cars are not recommended. If you cancel your reservation and I am able to rent your week to someone else, your rental amount less your deposit will be refunded. If I am not able to rent your week you will forfeit the entire amount paid. This property is surrounded by mountains so the best way to make calls is to set your phone to WiFi calling. I have an Apple Smart Phone with Sprint Service, and I changed my phone settings to WiFi calling while inside the cabin to: Settings>Cellular>WiFi Calling , this worked beautifully and my phone worked great. You should contact your phone service provider before arriving to find out how you set your particular phone to make calls through WiFi. It does have satelite TV and there is also a land line telephone for local calls and a phone card can be used for long distance calls.

Beautiful chalet house on a nice pond. We brought a small boat and the guys went fishing. Everything was very clean and full kitchen to use. Lovely views from the house. Everything you could need was supplied. A very nice vacation spot.
My family and I had an amazing time! The home is beautiful, pictures do not do it justice! The lake was so clean and warm. We enjoyed kayaking and fishing and just relaxing by the water. The driveway is a bit rough but no issue if you take it slow. Will definitely stay again!
As usual, the cabin was warm and welcoming. The weather was not as we hoped but we always find things to do to keep us entertained. Every chance we got we tried to spend it it either in the water or on it!
This house was perfect for our young family to relax and hang by the water. Sandy beach and shallow warm water. Very quiet lake. The driveway takes about 5 minutes to drive (and 9 minutes to run!) but is fun! I wouldn’t trust a sedan to not bottom out, but our outback had no problem. Ken was very nice. The place is spotless. Very quiet which is exactly what we wanted! Highly recommend.
The pictures with this listing do not do it justice! The house was wonderful, big and clean. It is larger even than needed for 6 people. If you include the futon in the basement, which my older son preferred, it really sleeps 8. The house has many beautiful windows facing the Pond. It was colder and buggy the first few days we were there, but we were still able to enjoy the beautiful view from inside! We enjoyed the boats (2 Kayaks, a Canoe, and 2 rowboats) for fishing and exploring. Life vests for all ages are available at the house. One of my sons caught three good bass, 15 inch, 19 inch and 19 1/2. They also caught small bluegills, sunnies, and perch. Lake Trout and Salmon were likely down deep and unable to be caught without a larger boat.
The house was stocked with all the dishes, cooking and baking pans we needed. The Manager was very polite and helpful. Thank you for a great week!
This was a return trip for us and again, not disappointed. We love how quiet and secluded it is. We enjoyed using the kayaks and the canoe to explore the pond and took day trips for local hikes. Wonderful experience.
Beautiful property in a gorgeous location. Property is quite remote so plan on bringing EVERYTHING with you. There is a few stores about a half hour away but really helpful to have brought everything with us. Road access is an issue. It literally is a long distance off the main road. Definitely plan on high clearance vehicles. Not a problem to use a standard sedan but not an easy drive. Kitchen is limited and grill is cheap and charcoal so difficult to do much with. Small deck or patio area is gravel. Yard furniture is cheap and not great for lounging. Overall a fabulous time but hope info will help you prepare for your trip.
I always try to find a vacation rental that is a lakefront property, quiet, secluded, private. This place really fits the bill. Neighbors are a good distance away. You won’t see or hear anyone else.
We were there in the second week of September. There was little to no boat traffic, so the water was still and peaceful. The lake water is clean and clear.
We are avid kayakers. It is easy to launch kayaks from the property. Additionally, we found other lakes in the area to kayak as well. You can easily kayak a different lake each day, just a short trip away. All with beautiful views. Very enjoyable stay there, would definitely go back again. Just wish they had a gas grill instead of charcoal.
We had such a great time. The place was charming and we loved how remote it felt. Spent quite a bit of time on the water as well as did a few hikes in the area.
Our family couldn't have asked for a better week. The property is truly special. I was amazed at how quiet it was. The location on the pond was super remote which is exactly what we were looking for. The house itself is beautiful, the layout is perfect and the attention to detail is amazing. Builder is truly talented. Hope to be back!
The cabin is beautiful there is plenty of room for a family to spread out with loft, main floor and lower(ground level) the road in does take about 5-7 minutes, we hiked to the end and back daily lots of horse flies, limited cell service, A tree fell across the road in while we were there luckily house phone worked and power company was quick to act, definitely isolated, lake is great clear water with sandy/rocky bottom, used kayaks daily, plenty of floaties in lower level, small grocery store 15 minutes away, town of Cornish a little further down road has some restaurants and shops, very relaxing
We so enjoyed the beauty and solitude of this wonderful lake cabin and would do it again.
Thank you for sharing your wonderful lake house!

Spacious, beautifully-designed cabin in a peaceful natural setting.
We spent three weeks in this calm oasis, swimming and paddling in the crystal clear lake, hiking on nearby trails, as well as just relaxing at the cabin and enjoying the peaceful environment. The house was clean and well-maintained by the designer-builder, Ken Wilson. He was wonderfully helpful and accommodating and a delightful conversationalist full of information about the region. Provisioning was easy. We shopped locally at Cal’s supermarket and supplied ourselves with fresh vegetables, fruits, (and delicious home-made cookies and breads!) at Merrifield Farmers Market on Route 25. And we loved poking around in nearby antique shops. Maples Antiques, owned by Keith Gamache, was a stand-out. And do check out the fascinating Rufus Porter Museum in Bridgton!
The pictures and description of this property don't come close to how beautiful this home is. We've rented someplace different in Maine and New Hampshire almost every year for 30 years and this is the first place my husband and I agree we would like to come back.
A pick up truck or SUV is a must on this road. It is a 7 minute drive from the main road to the lake house. So worth it when you arrive.
The lake was so quiet and peaceful. The water was very clear. We enjoyed floating, kayaking and just sitting on the little beach with a cocktail. We did not encounter any ticks during our week.
Inside was so beautiful and had everything you could possibly need, so just come ready to relax and enjoy!
This is by far one of my family's favorite vacations. Years ago we had a cabin we would rent yearly, unfortunately the family that owned it sold it. We have been searching every year for our new "millinocket" to no avail. We finally found our spot.
This place is beautifully maintained, the water was crystal clear, the privacy is unrivaled, the caretaker Ken greeted us and walked us through the house (everyone wore masks and social distanced due to the virus ) such a pleasant man.
We lost power once due to a downed tree in a surrounding town but we called cmp and were updated and the power came back on shortly. You will need to connect to wifi and wifi calling to use your cell. However I suggest disconnecting and enjoying the beauty of the home and lake.
I read previous reviews about ticks,we only experienced one and were up and down the hill to the water multiple times. I mean you're in the woods of course there are ticks people. Just check yourself when you come in. We saw it grabbed some tape and got rid of it. Easy as pie. We also read about furry friends, we saw not a single one.
We fell in love with this rental and fully intend on coming back. The only issue we had is the height of the furniture being a low to the ground. My brother (who has a bad knee) and husband are 6'2" and my father had knee replacement surgery so with furniture that is low to the ground getting up was not conducive. We had brought camping chairs however and strategically placed them on the rugs around the living room to not damage the beautiful floors and moved some furniture around which is extremely light and easy to move (we moved it back before we left) to make it work.
The wood work in the cabin is breathtaking, the provided every possible amenity you could possibly need, the communication I had with owners with questions, were answered quickly and with precision and the local grocery store is only a 15 minute drive.
Thank you for letting us stay in your home. We look forward to coming back.

About the host
Hosted by Chris Hoelzel
My father, Dr. Norman Hoelzel purchased this property in the 50's. I have been vacationing here for over 55 years, and before that, my grandparents owned a cottage on the water across from my current home. My own family now vacations here. When my father passed away, I built a new home and since I can't use it year round, I decided to rent it on home away so others could enjoy it too.
Why they chose this property
This property is unique in the fact that it has been owned by the same family for over 55 years, the grandparents owned property here 65 years ago. A lot of history.
What makes this property unique
It is a true Maine wood cottage on the water. So many outdoor activities. Great place for a family vacation.
