Nice place but very isolated
This is a small one-bedroom, kitchen, and bathroom place that is a little difficult to find. It's about 45 minutes from downtown Hilo and is in Pahoa but a good 6 miles from the nearest store or restaurant. Hard to find when it's dark but the facilities were adequate.

Hi Don, thanks for letting us know about your stay! We provide guests with driving directions to the home in our pre-stay email and the porch and parking areas have flood lights. We apologize if you had a hard time navigating around our area. It is in a peaceful and quit place, and away from the touristy business. We appreciate you taking the time to leave your review.

Disappointing Experience
The pretty, jungle setting was lovely and the bed was comfortable. The road into the property was full of potholes, the canvas car canopy was loaded with black mold (that was near the open bathroom window,) the bathroom floor had large cracks in it (we could see the dirt beneath the cottage,) the shower ran hot/cold, the kitchen chairs were hard.
We paid for 3 weeks, but only stayed 4 nights. When we asked for more toilet paper, we were given only one roll. The bathtub plug did not work on the first night, but the owner did pull out the broken plug and he gave us a flat plug that worked OK.
Although the setting was pretty, the cottage was a disappointment. We would not recommend staying here.

Hi Roxanne, the right vacation home is everything, and we're disappointed if this wasn't the one for you. We followed up with the homeowner after reading your feedback, and they would like to share the following:
- We're sorry for the potholes on the entry road - this is not controlled by our HOA, but is a private road.
- The black coloring on the carport is a mixture of dirt and embedded moss that is normal for the Rainforest environment.
- The cabin is an island-inspired design and the floor has fine ventilation spacing allowing air to flow underneath the building to keep the cabin cool.
- The chairs in the kitchen are brand new and made of wood.
- We went above and beyond to respond to each and every one of your concerns while in residence and were under the impression that you left early to move into your new home as escrow closed early.
- We provided 5 rolls of toilet paper as well as extras under the bathroom sink.
We do all we can to make the best possible stay, and we look forward to this property hosting many satisfied guests.

Great place for those sealing adventure
While we spent most of our visit out and about hiking, sightseeing, and swimming, this cabin was a great place to have a few meals and lie our heads between exploring the big island. The bed was super comfortable and the bedroom and patio were really nice. The kitchen was well stocked for those looking to cook. However, there were a few cleanliness issues: the previous guests did not throughly clean the dishes, which attracted bugs, there was mold in the fridge, and there was a slight musty smell. You also need to bring nearly everything you might need, including toiletries (shampoo and a used bar of soap were the only things provided), beach towels, and spices (there was salt and pepper but it was damp). If you’re looking for a luxurious place to spend a lot of time, this cabin may not be for you, but we enjoyed it.

Beautiful and cozy home away from home
My boyfriend and I stayed at this lovely place for 10 days. We really enjoyed the location and the nature around. It was a very peaceful place. We came for Kona Ironman competition, but decided to stay in Hilo part for the training before the race. And it was a great choice.
The house was perfect for two of us. It had everything we needed. It had cookware and dishes, so we cooked our own breakfast, lunch and dinner. The house was clean and well maintained.
The bed was very comfortable. The little balcony turned out to be my favorite spot for meditation and yoga.
I could feel that Lori and Vern put a lot of love into this place.
I highly recommend this place. We really enjoyed this property. I wold stay there again gladly.
