Property was secluded, comfortable and spacious for our group of 4. Kitchen worked well for us. Having very easy access to the beach was a nice surprise. Ocean view was better than expected. Overall we were all happy with our choice.

Seaside dream

Everything was exceptional!! Just a few steps from the beach was THE BEST! The house was extremely clean and plenty of bedding for our crew. We had an AMAZING time!!

A fun family get away.

The house is very comfortable. We enjoyed many hours playing games in the living room. The beach is really just right out the front door. Even though it rained almost continuously while we were there we still enjoyed many walks on the beach.

Nice property but a little dated

This was a really comfortable place with great beach proximity. Very quiet and fairly secluded, there was a cabin next door but unoccupied. For the price, it would have been nice to have some coffee supplied (as we find in most similar properties), so be sure to bring your own ground coffee!

Nice spot

This was a great location for us -- close to great sites on the coast like the Devil's Churn, Cape Perpetua, and the aquarium in Newport. It slept 6 very comfortably, although take note that there's just one bathroom. :-) We cooked several meals and the kitchen was well-stocked with cutlery and dishes. Nice place!

Rustic Retreat is exactly as advertised. The location right by the beach is exactly what we wanted. The yard gives some privacy but is just just a few steps from the sand. We enjoyed the view from the living room windows, the deck, and the yard. I loved having a fire ring. Yachats is a short drive if you want to go out to eat.Rabbits graze in the yard. We watched a pair of eagles each day in a tree beyond the neighbor's house. Binoculars were provided.The history of the house and information given about it is interesting.This would easily be a five star review if not for mice in the house. We saw one dropping on the kitchen counter the first evening. So I looked in the cabinet under the sink and droppings were all around there. We do not leave food or crumbs uncovered but they eat through baggies. We saw Mr. mouse scurrying around the living room and kitchen floor the second and third nights. It is unnerving because they startle you. And of course, they are just nasty.If the mouse problem is fixed we would love to go back.

I also appreciate you letting us know about the mice — that is unacceptable and I’m sorry it made you uncomfortable. We passed this on to our pest control and maintenance teams and they have since inspected the property, removed droppings, set appropriate controls, and they have yet to see signs of the mice returning. Awesome Beach

We have stayed in this house before, we love the easy beach access. The beach is not busy very quiet. It has a small creek the feeds into the ocean which is great for young children. It is very close to Yachats & Waldport. The house is open with plenty of seating. Downside we had was we stayed a week and wished there was a washer & dryer. Oh and make sure and keep your windows closed most don't have screens and you may find a visitor. We have had a bat come in the bathroom window both time we have stayed. A little scary, but made for some amazing memories. Haven't laugh that hard in a long time. Would stay again!

Gorgeous setting but disappointing accommodations

The location is incredibly lovely but the house itself was run-down and in need of cleaning and not worth the high cost. Our stay was for a special occasion and the first time in my years of staying in rentals that I was truly disappointed that the pictures don't match the reality. The floors and kitchen were unkempt and we spent the first part of the stay cleaning the dishes, cutting boards, and utensils that had been put away with food caked on. Note that I contacted the rental agency an hour earlier than our check-in time (because we arrived at the coast a bit early) to see if we could check in early and they said no---which I completely understand. However, as we were packing up I saw that they was a text asking if we were leaving earlier than our check-out time, which didn't seem appropriate because we felt as though we were also being rushed out. After our short stay, I contacted VRBO, who said I had to contact the rental company directly, I did that to ask is they would offer a very minor discount for the significant lack of housekeeping. After a couple weeks of no replies Meredith Lodging replied and they said they were only able to offer a 10% discount on a future booking. Oof.
