Hidden Gem

We loved our stay at this cute, clean, and updated property in the North Woods. The setting is scenic, tucked away in a shallow bay, with colorful trees abound. The bay is very shallow, but beautiful to look at. Will def stay here again to escape the city life!

Beautiful but disappointed with unsafe swimming conditions

We love this area, and have vacationed in many, many lake homes near this area. I know the questions to ask so we have the place we want. The physical home was lovely and well kept. The grounds were very well kept. The kayaks were great. BUT, I specifically asked if we could swim from the pier. We absolutely could not. It was littered with lumber debris (not fallen trees). To swim, we had to paddle to one of the islands - which we did - but it didn't allow all of us to go together, so very disappointed. It was not what we hoped for, unfortunately. I was told by the owner, "The bay is the site of a former wood mill so there wood shaving in the bay but the lake is clear and swimming from the dock is very common". I can't imagine how swimming could even be safe in that bay. For this reason, I have to say, we won't be back to this spot.

Hi Anne, the right vacation home is everything, and we're disappointed if this wasn't the one for you. We followed up with the homeowner after reading your feedback, and they wanted to share the following:- We're glad you enjoyed the home, the grounds, and the kayaks. It’s a special location we love sharing with guests.- The bay does have a unique history as the site of a former wood mill, so natural wood remnants can occasionally appear near the shoreline.- Swimming from the dock is a common activity, but we understand preferences vary and are sorry this aspect fell short for your group.- We wish we had known during your stay, more suitable areas in the bay could’ve been recommended for safer and more enjoyable swimming. Thanks for sharing your experience—we truly appreciate the insight as we work to provide a 5-star stay for every guest.
