Donald had registered only 4 guests to stay at our ocean front home. On Sunday July 12, 2026, at just after 10 p.m. I had to respond to a complaint of a noisy party on our ocean front beach. We respect and value our neighbors, and thus we are very clear about our quite hours after 10 p.m. We don’t have a curfew, our guests are welcome to enjoy themselves outside all night if they like but just quietly after 10 p.m. Just to be clear, a couple of complaints from neighbors about noisy parties could make the city shut down our short-term rental business affecting not only us but any future guests as well as any income VRBO receives from us. So, when I approached Donald and his group of now 10 people and an unauthorized big dog partying on our beach, I had to ask them to quiet down and turn the music down. It was quite evident that these people had consumed a lot of alcohol by this time by what happened next. Donald a reasonably tall person now pushed his chest right into my face, meanwhile 2 other men not registered guests started to surround me, which felt very threatening as I was a 70 year old person out there by myself. In this position I asked them all to back up a bit as I felt quite threatened or I would have to call the authorities. Donald proceeded to tell me that he had paid a lot of money to be here and that entitled him to do whatever he wanted to. He said I was embarrassing him in front of his friends however I responded to him that he was embarrassing himself acting like this. We share our beautiful waterfront home with strangers that we don’t even know and in 7 years we have never had any group so belligerent and threatening as these people. Anyone who would act like this toward hosts that are so gracious as us, please read our reviews, should not be allowed in the VRBO community. Yes we do have signs in the rental so that we can minimize the amount of times that a guest needs to call us. Some signs are about obvious things such as because we have a natural gas range we recommend turning on the range fan so you don’t asphyxiate yourself also what the WiFi code is and what time check out is. Also where to find the extra propane tank for the BBQ if you run out. Some not so obvious things are like not to change the settings or wiring on the TV because we are not always there to reset them. This can cause inconvenience and frustration to the next guests coming in. After years of dealing with these common problems we found that the easiest fix is just to explain things with a sign, most people appreciate it.
