Unfortunately, our experience hosting Shona was disappointing. Before her arrival, she shared that the stay was to celebrate a special anniversary. Wanting to make it memorable, we personally arranged a complimentary cake — prepared days in advance at our own expense. This was done sincerely, as we always strive to bring warmth and care to our guests. Our listing clearly states that the suite is a private, garden-level villa — with independent entry, no upstairs tenants, exclusive access to a garden, parking, laundry, and a west-facing ocean view. These features were available and enjoyed throughout her stay, and no concerns were raised during that time. Her post-stay claims of mold and lack of cleanliness came as a surprise. The unit was professionally cleaned before check-in, and a thorough inspection immediately after her departure found no such issues. The property is fully licensed by the City of Powell River, with regular inspections to ensure health and safety compliance. We understand that expectations vary — but we also recognize when feedback strays from honest critique into exaggeration. It’s disheartening when such reviews disregard the genuine efforts we make to provide a welcoming, high-standard environment. As hosts, we often operate in a vulnerable position, and it’s our hope that reviews across this community reflect fairness, facts, and mutual respect.
