Troy has a lovely home and it is clean and comfortable. It's an old historic house with beautiful wood floors. The unit is the top floor and there are two very quiet tenants who live down below. Two bedrooms at the back, which is nice because we had street noise at the front....not a big deal once you are inside. The kitchen has nice appliances but is relatively thinly stocked with dishes and cooking supplies: not a big deal if you don't want to cook much, and we made due just fine with what was there. The location is great, just across the street from Surfside Park on Lake Minnetonka and the house itself is on a lake. There is generous use of kayaks and bicycles on the property, which is fantastic. The lake is serene and beautiful and we enjoyed watching birds in the evenings. There is also a firepit available to use, which is lovely. Overall a wonderful stay with lots of amenities.
The property was very clean. Location was perfect! Wish we would have had more time to enjoy the lake, kayaks and bikes. Lots of personal touches made us feel very welcomed.
From the owner:"Thank you for your feedback! I’m sorry you had trouble locating a few of the kitchen essentials during your stay. The salt and pepper are typically kept in the refrigerator, and the spatula is in the cabinet next to the microwave. I always encourage guests to reach out if they need anything or can’t find something—I live right next door and am happy to help make your stay as comfortable and convenient as possible."

Great Location
The location was perfect with lots to do around and only a 30 min drive into the city. Troy was very nice and helpful when we checked in. Would definitely recommend!
Cozy, modest accomodation. Greeted by host. Welcome bottle in fridge, chocolates on table. Beds comfy. Full kitchen but light on pots and pans.

Liked: Cleanliness, check-in, communication
So the property is clean and the owner is responsive. But when we first stepped into the property, we encountered a very strong smell of either smoke or possibly mold or mildew. We contacted the owner who said that it might be residual smoke smell from the bonfire a few days prior. However, it was in the entire property, which is the upper floor of a home. We never heard anybody below. I had to go buy air freshener and I sprayed the house several times, but it never got rid of the smell. The other thing people should know when they rent this place is it’s a very old home which the foundation is settling, causing all the floors to be very sloped and uneven so if you have any balance issues getting out of bed could be problematic. The larger of the two bedrooms, the head of the bed is lower than the foot of the bed because of the sloping and the mattresses are both very uncomfortable in both of the rooms so we did not sleep well for the three nights that we were there. Also, due to the house settling the floors are very squeaky and many of the doors don’t shut easily, so that’s very noisy also so if you have young children or light sleepers, this would not be a good place for you. The other thing was the cups bowls and plates many had chips out of them, which I think is a little bit dangerous to eat out of. And the Teflon pan was scratched up and peeling, which is dangerous. The lake is very scummy around the edges so we never ended up using the kayaks . not good for the cost.

Response from VrboOwner on 10 Sept 2026
We're glad the cleanliness of the home and responsive communication stood out during your stay. We're sorry some aspects of the property didn't meet your expectations. The home is an older lake house, and the listing notes its second-floor location. We take reports of odors seriously and investigated the concern but found no signs of mold or mildew. This is the first we have heard about this in the three years this unit has been on VRBO and the 106 years it's been an air BNB. While we haven't previously received concerns about the mattresses, we understand comfort preferences can vary. We also regularly monitor the dishware and cookware and will continue checking these items between stays. Thank you for sharing your experience.
My friends and I had a very nice stay at this apartment. It was small, but very nice and cute and met our needs well. The TV was big, the closet spaces were great, and the beds were comfortable. It was a little cold, so we didn't use the kayaks, but were appreciative that they were available. The kitchen could use a few more pans and utensils, but we made it work. This was in the description, but just be aware that the floors are uneven, and there are several stairs because it is the upstairs apartment. It's an older building, so doors are a bit creaky and things like that. Overall, we had a good stay and would stay there again.
Our family spent a long weekend at this apartment located in a quaint town w/private lake (backyard) & larger lake across street. Beautiful area! The apartment is from the early 1900’s. Owner has nicely redone it while keeping its original charm! It's well stocked w/ tv's in each room, nice kitchen appliances, xtra towels, cleaning supplies, paper goods, kayaks, canoe, bikes, & fishing poles. The owner is very friendly & easily accessible. He left us a bottle of wine and an assortment of candy bars as a "Welcome"!
Thanks for a great getaway, Troy!

Great Little Place on the Quiet Side of the Lake!
Troy's place was the great quiet stay we needed before and after the MN State Fair, located on the "quiet side of the lake" (near Lake Minnetonka and still close enough to enjoy it but located on Langdon Lake) with access to kayaks and a dock to watch the sunset. We interacted w Troy a bit in the yard; he has an interesting history and was a great host online and in person. As 3 people, the space worked well for us. Be aware that this is an upstairs apartment and there are other people/apartments/houses on premises but as long as they are kind guests like we had, there is enough yard space to enjoy and go around.
From the owner: "We're sorry to see the 2-star rating and wish we had received more detailed feedback so we could better understand your concerns. Many of our guests enjoy access to the scenic bike trail that leads into South Dakota, catching bluegill right off the dock, and a large fire pit with enough wood to last for days. We also provide complimentary champagne for our guests as a special touch. We do remember our conversation about the bathroom layout and understand it may not have been ideal for your group. We do our best to make this detail clear in the listing. While our home is designed for a maximum of six guests, we noticed your group included seven, which may have impacted your experience. Thank you for rating your visit."
