If you are desperate.

I have seen 4 rooms in total. The single room was really small ( like a UK third bedroom) with a bathroom down the corridor. The wall paper was pealing off the wall, part of the coving was falling off. The TV screen was tinted orange. Next, I was showed 2 rooms one on the 6th floor. Small window, I don't think you could open it, the room smelt like you couldn't. Really dark even with the light switch on. The second room was on the second floor. I realised later that the toilet had a large crack. The bed cover was stained, dust under the bed, the window had half its locking system missing. The worst part is that it is single glazing and all night you can hear moped and cars from the nearby streets. It is honestly like sleeping next to a motorway. The noise is between 35 and 55 Decibels. Fine during the day really bad when you want to sleep even with ear plugs. The Last room I saw was on the 4th floor. (Morpheus room) Some pipes in the corner making noise but it was fine with ear plugs. The problem is people being noisy having sex. You can hear everything. I thought they were doing it right outside my door. But if you are into hearing people having sex or into people hearing you having sex, it should be fine.

Good location for families

The hotel was to a good standard, clean, good condition with helpful and friendly staff. The hotel itself was nothing extraordinary but everything worked and was in a fantastic location for all the major tourist spots, coliseum, trevi, pantheon no more than a 10 minute walk. The metro is also 5 minutes away to get to vatican in 5 stops in 10 minutes. There is a also a supermarket very close to get the basics and an excellent pizzaria on the side street next to the hotel. Having searched for a room for a family of 5 with 3 young children at a reasonable price this really did tick plenty of boxes and would recommend if you are looking for a weekend stay with a family of that size.

Good location, unremarkable room and service.

Good location, staff friendly, but when we asked about the air conditioning in our room not working properly we were advised to open a window. This did partially solve the problem but wasn’t really the point.

Well located basic hotel

Within 15 mins of Terminii with luggage and negotiating Roman traffic. Returned after our previous stay 5 years ago. Our room was adequate but smaller than last time, especially the shower room/toilet and the shower head was unruly, spraying water everywhere, but who spends any longer than necessary in there. Room overlooked central courtyard, not street, but someone has to! Breakfast was good by basic Roman hotel standard and the room catered provided everyone did not arrive at the same time. The lady overseeing breakfasts managed well and was always willing to help. Reception staff and wi-fi worked very well and reception was always manned to let us in.

Great location!

It was very nice and comfortable. Very central location, all major attractions were at a walking distance. Clean room and bathroom though the bathroom was very very small but okay for a short reasonably priced holiday. Highly recommended if you want to enjoy the city and plan on spending most of your time outside and basically just go to the hotel to sleep. The breakfast was also nice. Hotel staff was very friendly and helpful.

Small family hotel, cheap but unfriendly

Overall, you get what you pay for. Our room was right next to the reception which was noisy from guests and staff. Our window overlooked a dark and grubby internal square and, with no air conditioning, the room was stifling and very noisy from the air conditioning units of other premises. The bathroom was small but adequate although the water took a while to heat up and the digital TV had lots of channels but not in English. The continental style breakfast buffet was good with lots of choice and unlimited. However, we found the staff very unfriendly and their knowledge of English is limited. Even if you can't communicate, it wouldn't hurt to smile at guests! But, as I say, you get what you pay for and we only used the hotel to sleep in. The location of the hotel is brilliant and we could walk to everything we wanted to see. Rome was absolutely brilliant and we would recommend the city, just not this hotel.

Hotel Clarin

Given the very affordable price we payed for the hotel, what we get is worth what we paid. The hotel is clean and very near key areas of transport and tourist spots. In general we are very happy, will definitely book again with the same hotel and recommend it to everybody. Thanks!

Clarin - Rome

Hotel Clarin was clean, comfortable and in a great location. It's a 10 walk from Roma Termini, and a 5 minute walk from the metro station, it's also right next to via nazionale which is a main road with lots of shops and restaurants. Rome isn't a big city so many of the sights are easily accessible using the metro system which is really straightforward. Breakfast in the hotel was pretty basic but enough to get you set up for the day. There was wifi in the room at a cost of €5 which is quite reasonable if you're staying for a few days. Overall I would recommend this hotel, its great to use as a base for exploring the beautiful city of Rome.

Great Location

This hotel is ideally placed for sight seeing in Rome, everything is within walking distance. Nice restuarants nearby and plenty of shops and transport. The room is comfortable and everything works but is a bit tatty. The staff are very nice but do not speak a lot of English but you are in another country so it is to be expected.

Very Basic Accomodation - but it isn't pretending to be anything else.

I booked this Hotel purely based upon the price and location, and was more than happy with my choice. This little second floor single level hotel would appear to be a little family run business offering the very basic of requirements, the complimentary breakfast was minimal but adequate, the rooms and en-suites were decoratively very dated but clean. The two rooms i booked had windows that opened onto the buildings inner yards (i do mean yards) which helped to keep the rooms cool however there was no view and you also got to 'enjoy' the aromas and noises generated from the other residents of the building. Note: The old fashioned style lift (wooden interior and the metal cage external structure) can only accomodate two adults with luggage comfortably. The location was absolutely excellent and the staff were very friendly and helpful (although they spoke very little english). So in summary if you are going to Rome on a budget, you want to be in walking distance of the top ten sights, can muddle your way through language differences and are happy to go without 'mod-cons', this hotel meets the very basic requirements. Would I recommend it - no, however if i needed to I would use it again because you go to Rome because of Rome not the hotel.

Unexpectedly great location

Loved the location - the streets around have great restaurants and bars, with nowhere too far away. Breakfast was good, the room very basic but fine although the bathroom was uncomfortably tiny. Get a map before making your way from Termini though!

Clarin Hotel Rome - good location

Our room quite gloomy, only one very small window so had to have light on when in there. Room clean and had three beds even though we only booked double. Breakfast just about adequate. No toaster so only plain sliced white bread available. Croissants given out to each table. One morning they had run out of both croissants and yoghurt . Another day people were queing to get a table as the dining room only held about 8 tables and there are 22 rooms! We didn't wait and went out to eat on that morning. Staff really friendly and very helpful. Hotel in easy walking distance of main Termini and attractions.

Its really a hostel

I've stayed in much nicer hostels. The shower takes ages to warm up and thats when there is hot water and then it leaks - if you even have doors that close - which some of us did'nt. We had just a handle on our bathroom door, no means of privacy here! Very noisy at night if you face in on the square, get a street facing room. Laminate floored corridors means you hear everyone who passes by. Fire exit door locked. Biggest drawback for us Brits was no kettle in the room and nowhere to make tea!! The room was incredibly hot at night - the heating stays on and theres no air con - we went in March so luckily it was'nt needed. Also the wifi doesnt work and only Italian tv. On a positive note - all the staff were so nice! Really lovely and helpful. Theres loads at breakfast (although the water's not boiling for the tea - just hotish!), the location of the Clarin is great, everything in walking distance and near the station, and our room was cleaned very well each day although the sheets were'nt changed that I could tell in our 5 days. If you expect hostel and take a kettle, shower early in the morning and use ear plugs at night whilst staying out as much as possible then this hotel is fine. Don't expect much from it and you'll be happy!

fantastic location

the hotel was brilliant, the staff were friendly and breakfast was ideal. the hotel staff organised are transfer back the airport at the end of our stay. it was in the perfect location- plenty of restaurants in the vicinity and we walked to the collussuem everyday just for a wander as it was only 10 minutes away, also trevi fountain and the pantheon are withing easy walking distance- we walked everywhere!!! would highly reccomend doing the "rome in one day tour" as the guides were fantastic and if you want to go to the vatican its probably the best way to do it, as it is a little out of the way from everything else

2* Hotel, 5* Experience!

This hotel is perfect for travellers who want to see Rome on a small budget. The hotel is located within walking distance of most major sites and is 5 minutes walk to the Termini station, so you can access all other sites that way. The hotel was basic but ideal, the beds were very comfortable and the breakfast was lovely. It has to be said that the staff were the friendliest people we met in the city and were happy to help. All in all, it was a great experience and we definately recommend this hotel.

Clarin Hotel - Rome

My wife and I stayed here for several days for our anniversary. The price of the room was cheap - especially compared with other Rome hotels. The room was clean, of a reasonable size and had an en suite bathroom. It's not an amazing bathroom or room by any means, but it was functional and fine. Breakfast was a typical continental affair with croissants, cheese, ham, yoghurts etc. Again, nothing special, but more than adequate. The staff were friendly, spoke English and helpful. Remember, this is a 2* hotel with low prices!!!!! The location behind 'Via National' was excellent. Bus stops for the Vatican and Trastevere were about a 2 min walk away. The suprmarket even closer. 'Termini' train station is a 10 min walk. At the end of the day, we weren't in Rome to spend time in the hotel. We used the hotel as a base to explore the City, and this hotel was perfect for that. I would stay here again.

Ideal sightseeing location

As with many of the previous comments, we found that the Clarin Hotel was ideally situated to walk to most of the sites, just 15 mins walk from both the Colusseum and the Trevi fountain. The room was basic however, it was clean, comfortable after a hard day sightseeing and showers although not powerful were hot. The staff in the hotel were extremely friendly, breakfast is in a small area and traditional cold meats, cheese, cereal and croissant are on the menu. The hotel is let down by very small things. In our room there was a light loose on the wall that would have just taken a few minutes to fix. Just in need of some TLC but would definitely stay there again as a base for a short sightseeing holiday.

"nowt special"

I will not b/s you we were disappointed with the Clarin the internet photos made this look a better hotel. But it is cheap & you could not wish for a better location, after all if you are like us then all you need it for is sleeping & showering. So if you are on a budget then give it a go.
