Bister chalets

We stayed for a week at the chalet in summer. The location is distant, but the views and surroundings are beautiful. The chalet is newely renovated and the standard is adequate. It has three bedrooms, fully equipped kitchen, functional bathroom and living area with a view at mountains and the valley. It can be a good base for hiking trips and travels around the Alps. It is a bit distant from civilization (coffee shops, restaurants, shops), but some people actually like it. The nearest restaurant, which is in walking distance from the chalet, was unfortunately closed during our stay, Overall we had a really great vacation there!

A home from home, superbly equipped with an outstanding outlook. Good communication with owner. Great base for some outstanding hiking in the eastern Valais, with a superb hike right out the door using the Aspi-Titter hanging bridge. Did not want to leave. Should mention there is a steep gravel road down to the chalet.

Lovely property, well equipped and spotlessly clean. Raoul the manager was very helpful when we arrived, and gave us really good ideals for places to visit. Great location on the side of the Riederalp mountain and surrounding valley and mountain areas. Easy access for walking and Hiking via the cable car. Good base to visit Zermatt, Crans - Montana, and the Leukerbad thermal baths. Really enjoyed having our meals in the glorious sunshine on the very scenic balcony. If you want to stay in a large soulless hotel then look elsewhere . There are numerous hotels in this region and I'm sure many are good, but what you get with chalet rondo is the keys to a private family home: echoes of children now presumably grown up; access to the owners' reading matter and musical tastes . The chalet itself is small but has everything you could need, cleverly designed to maximise the space . Perched on the side of the mountain the panoramic view from the balcony is of endless mountains including a glacier on the left and the Matterhorn in the distance on the right . The villages of Riederalp, Bettmeralp and Fiescheralp occupy a car-free plateau (we parked for a week at the cable car station in the valley floor for 60 euros ). Access is via cable car which can be expensive ( a 5 day family pass covering all lifts cost us 230 euros ). However it is worth getting an all-access pass as it allows you to get to different parts of the mountain for walks and attractions . The villages have metalled roads so pull along suitcases are fine, and for excursions the lift pass means that once you are at a certain altitude you can walk on relatively level ground (similar to a walk in Wales or Scotland but not mountain climbing ). So a moderate degree of fitness is required to get around, and while the route to the chalet from the cable car is on a level road the final approach is via a steep grass path so pack light !

Nice location overlooking the mountains. Property is a little worn in places, but this is noted in the description and reflected in the lower than average rates and did not affect our enjoyment.
