Classic Orcas Island

This place was awesome! Just what we are always looking for, a house and property on the water, with plenty of room indoors and out, and a roomy and well-equipped kitchen with a big walk-in pantry area. It is an older house, but has been expanded and updated over time. Felt very comfortable, but most important, it had that old Orcas feeling (my family has been coming to the island since the 60's). Great west-facing location and large outdoor area (both patio and lawn) to hang out and watch sunsets. We ate meals outside on the large table pretty much every evening. Plus, more room to spread out on the other side of the house, with lawns, hammock, garden, etc. Flowers everywhere... Daily sightings of seal, otter, bald eagle, blue heron, kingfisher, etc. You know, the usual Orcas thing! The West Beach marina is down the beach not too far, and there is plenty of summer activity there. But this property feels very private and peaceful. The house works great for 4 couples, with more room to expand (additional bunk house with a few beds is also available). We have rented a lot of different houses on Orcas, and this is by far the best one -- we already have plans to return next year!

A hidden gem!

The house and grounds are amazing! An older very well kept up house with a view that can not be matched. I would absolutely stay here again. The only difficulty was getting the boat trailer to the house. The driveway is a dirt/gravel road that is best for midsize cars/SUVs. My truck/boat trailer were difficult to get in/out with the tight driveway and low hanging branches.

Lovely waterfront home

Well appointed, had everything we needed and more. It felt more like our own home than a rental. Photos can’t capture how lovely this place is!

Fabulous vacation

It was a lovely property and had absolutely everything we needed. Fabulous view of the ocean, beautiful garden, great kitchen amenities, and lots of room to spread out. We were a party of 2 families with 7 kids from ages 12-17 and we never felt crowded or on top of each other during the entire week. Really quite remarkable considering we stayed at the house most of the time due to the pandemic - we cooked in most meals. It’s all due to the wonderful layout of the house which has a fairly open floor plan, but also lots of privacy as well and the incredible weather that allowed us to stay outside much of the time as well. Our kids loved all of the outdoor games that Donna provided. The adults loved the Adirondack chairs – we sat in them for hours watching the ocean. She also has a most amazing garden - truly beautiful. The lavender was in full bloom, and we saw so much wildlife right from the backyard: bald eagles (there’s a nest on the property) deer, otters, seals, and much more. There’s also an inn that is a five minute walk from the beach that served coffees, ice cream, cute little store, and we did the whale watching tour with them as well as a kayak tour - very handy and great service. The house is truly lovely and was such a blessing for a wonderful vacation during this crazy time. Thank you!!

Best property on Orcas Island

Wise fishermen never tell others about their favorite fishing hole for fear of others catching on and then having to compete when they want to return. This property is simply outstanding in every respect; great views, charming, comfortable, outstanding indoors and outdoors. We will be back for sure. Great hosts who are very attentive to your every need and possible concerns.

This was the perfect house for an Orcas adventure. The house was stocked well with games, kitchen supplies, laundry soap, and more. Very comfortable and spacious. We saw several orcas from the backyard. Short walk to rent kayaks and paddle boards. Beautiful spot!

Annual Trip

This was our second year staying here and we plan on coming back again next summer. Truly a spectacular location and home base for exploring the island. The home is so warm and comfortable with everything you need. The owners are wonderful and responsive. Feels much more like you're staying at a family member's home than a "house rental." We love it so much.

The Beach House is the perfect place to relax and enjoy the tranquil beauty of Orcas Island.

The Beach House is the perfect place to relax and enjoy the tranquil beauty of Orcas Island. The property itself is magical. The entry drive meanders through a dense cedar and douglas fir forest with an understory of native ferns and foxgloves (or similar). The forest opens up to an orchard like setting with the main house, guest house, barn and English gardens defining the generous circular entry. The balance of evergreens and gardens is a perfect microcosm of Orcas Island’s interior. It is not until you enter the rustic yellow home and move through the great room and look out through the wall of windows that you see the unmatched beauty of West Beach and Waldron Island. There is a lawn at the back with a bocci ball court, a high end outdoor grill, fire pit and dining area all with views of the bay. The beach and boat house are down a short path opening up to the beautiful pebbled beach! The house was beautifully furnished and came with every modern amenity one could ask for – from a Gourmet kitchen to WI-FI internet, soon to be linked up to a dedicated fiber optic cable. Everything (sheets, blankets, silverware, etc.) was well cared for and in great condition – we felt like we had been entrusted with their unique home and we did our best to care for it and leave it as beautiful as we found it. The place combines the feel and charm of a Cape Cod cottage with the magic of the San Juan Island’s breathtaking natural beauty. We loved every part of our stay here and will definitely come again!

Spacious home with a cozy cottage feel in a beautiful setting. Had a wonderful time.

After a short drive through the woods we arrived at a clearing with a big barn and a charming home in a woodsy setting. From the minute we stepped into "the Little Beach House" we felt at home. After walking through the front door we moved through a large living room, family room and master bedroom, all with breathtaking views of the water and Waldron Island. Right away it was apparent that everything in the home was tastefully done and of top quality. We had come to spend a relaxing week and it was evident from the first glance around that this would be easy to accomplish in this cozy and welcoming home. We were two retired couples vacationing in mid-October, so we were not looking for water activities, however it was obvious this would be a great place to bring a family, or families, on vacation, with plenty of opportunity to spend time on the water. As for us, we enjoyed reading, making a puzzle, shopping and lunch in Eastsound, a drive to the lookout tower on Mt. Constitution, a ferry ride to explore Friday Harbor, watching some football and the baseball playoffs, walks on the beach to West Balch Resort for coffee and a walk through the woods to Orcus Island Pottery. While we enjoyed a couple of lunches in Eastsound (Lowers Tavern, a sports bar and a waterfront restaurant The Medrona Inn... I think those were the names) we were all impressed with the French stove in the home and loved cooking with it, although it did take us a bit to get use to it. There is a well-stocked full-service grocery in Eastsound where we bought our groceries. All in all it was the wonderful relaxing vacation we sought, and even the October weather cooperated with some clouds, some sun and some rain which allowed us to enjoy both indoors and outdoors. Our thanks to the Littles for sharing their charming beach house!

Charming, Relaxing, Wonderful Getaway

This home is perfect for either a family or as a gathering place. We rented it for a "girl’s weekend" college reunion. With 4 bedrooms, 3 baths and 2 living areas in the main house, we had plenty of room to reminisce without being on top of each other. We didn't need the bunk house", but it was nicely decorated and would be a great area for teens who want a little space. This beautiful house is a combination of New England decor and English gardens. The view is magnificent, especially from the Adirondack at sunset. Inside the furniture and amenities look like they are brand new. The house was clean and had everything we needed, including a large crab pot for Dungeness (Yum!). It is a short scenic drive to town and not much further to Buck Bay Shellfish Farms for fresh salmon, clams and crabs. One of my favorite activities was walking down the beach to West Beach Resort for a latte each morning. Having experienced Orcas in summer, I would like my next stay to be in fall or winter. There are lots of games and books for kids and adults to explore. I can already imagine sipping a cup of coffee or cocoa from the cozy chair looking out over Puget Sound. Don’t forget to walk over to the pottery place next door. It is the perfect spot to buy your Orcas souvenir. I will definitely be back to this house. The only question is do we bring the kids or make it an adult weekend and invite other couples to join us.

Why they chose this property

We have always loved the west side of Orcas Island. When we saw this house and property we instantly knew it was very special due to the location on the beach, the charm of the house, and the amazing views. The garage is a barn and adds to the feeling of getting away to a farm with an orchard. It is the best of all worlds and we are excited to share our Orcas retreat with others.
