Property was very fitting for our size group, ease of getting ready and spread out or being together for games, movies, eating.
The views were wonderful! We did not want to be in a big town but see the country around the tourist areas and that is what we had.
We enjoyed the wildlife!
We were impressed with the size of the house and all the great areas to hang out both inside and outside. The property is beautifully landscaped and the walk down to the dock isn't too bad. We had a wonderful time and would not hesitate to return. Thanks for sharing your lake house with us!
The house was well equipped. Everything we needed in the kitchen was provided. The kayaks and canoe we quite the bonus! We got a lot of use out of the fire pit area and ping pong. Great place to stay.
We enjoyed our stay at the Rusty Hook. The house was not as clean as we expected it to be. We had to do quite a bit of cleaning in the kitchen--especially pots, pans and appliances. The coffee maker had old wet grounds and mold. Muffin tin very dirty. The home could be lovely with a little more love and care. A bit tired as it is.
I don't think the photos do this place enough justice. It's much larger and more well equipped than I had expected and the property itself was breathtaking. I'd look to return here first if I ever find myself on Douglas Lake again.
My husband and I along with our two adult children, their spouses and our grandson rented this house for a family trip. The house is beautiful with great amenities. The house has great space, each of the bedrooms has its own full bathroom. The common living area and the kitchen are very spacious. We loved the screened in porch with BBQ. We also loved hanging out at the dock and using the kayaks (there are 4). The house was perfect for our family trip!
The place is welcoming, clean and has a nice view. The owners were very kind and responsive. We traveled during the Christmas storm, so we didn’t get to use the outdoor space, and we had some storm related problems; like frozen pipes and icy road. The owner promptly came in, brought us water, fixed the problem and salted the road. Highly recommended.
Wonderful stay at the Rusty Hook, much more to the property and house than what is described. Perfect for a picturesque lake vacation and awesome location for Dollywood, Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge, and Smoky Mt National Park. We had all ages from 92 to a 1 year old and it was perfect for all. We rented a boat from H2O water sports and it was super easy. The dock at the house was perfect for the boat or just jumping off and swimming. Would rate it more than 5 stars if I could. Douglas Lake is beautiful and seemed like a fairly quiet lake with lots to explore. Will definitely go back and rent the Rusty Hook again.
We had a great week at the Rusty Hook! The house accommodated us perfectly (7 people) Big bonus is having a bathroom attached to each bedroom! The lake was gorgeous, quiet and perfect to swim in! We all loved jumping off the platform by the dock. Even with stormy weather we had a great time!! One call out- the internet is not great. So if you have kids or adults that are dependent on their phones- this is something to be aware of. Owners are super responsive and so easy to communicate with! Highly recommend this home!
The house was amazing - the pictures truly do not do it justice. The house was well cared for compared to some other VRBO rentals we have stayed in. We had 9 people total, 6 adults and 3 kids. Ages ranged from 11 to 82. We really enjoyed the kayaks and the fire pit area. Kids enjoyed swimming off of the dock too. The steps down the back of the house are very steep, but there is also a road to take a car down (which we did). Very well set up for our multi generational family vacation. Kandy was extremely responsive to any questions we had. We would absolutely come back to this house again.
Our family(7 adults) loved the property! We had a great stay and everything was as advertised or better. Communication with the owner was superb! During our stay a severe storm came through the area and power was out for almost 24 hours. The owners were very responsive and brought us a generator, water, and a giant cooler with ice! They really did everything that could be done and it was very nice to know they were there for us!
The house itself is beautiful and had everything we needed, including a well stocked kitchen. Beds and bathrooms were all clean and comfortable. The lake access and outdoor space was amazing! We loved the dock and swim platform, the kayaks, and the fire pit area!. The boat ramp was a real plus for quick, easy access for our jet ski. The ping pong table, dvd's, and ring toss game were great to pass the time when the storms hit.
The only issue we had was cell service and internet access. Although wi-fi is provided the service was spotty and inconsistent. We were there to enjoy the lake though and this wasn't a huge issue for us.
We have rented several properties on Douglas lake over past several years and this was a clear favorite! We look forward to returning to Rusty Hook and if they add a hot tub it might be hard to get me to leave.
P.S. If you find yourself floating in the lake just off the dock keep an eye out for "Kieth" the painted turtle! Highlight of the stay was feeding him out of our hands when he swam up to us!
We stayed here for a family vacation. The photos are accurate. The house is very clean.
It is much bigger than it appears. Each bedroom has its own bath. The common area in the open living, dining, kitchen has plenty of room for everyone. The outdoor spaces are awesome. Plenty of room on the lower porch. The upper porch has amazing lake views.
We used the boat dock for our pontoon rental as well as fishing everyday. The landscaping is beautiful and well kept. We did use the long driveway to access the lake, but be warned, as most properties in this area, the drive to the boat launch is steep. We had no problem with an all wheel drive SUV. Very grateful to be able to drive down. There is plenty of parking for at least six cars right in front of the house. The host was great and communicated very well. She even sent a message to check in on us.
Overall this is a very clean, beautiful property. We look forward to staying here again.
We had such a fun time at this house, the property is just as described. One bonus is that there is a mini-kitchen downstairs with a full refrigerator that has an ice maker. That worked out great for our group because we all do a lot of cooking while we're there. The beds were comfortable, patio area with the fire pit is amazing down by the lake. We just wished we could've stayed longer! Hope to get back here next Labor Day!
Great views. Easy access to water. Enjoyed the kayaks and canoe and dock to keep pontoon rental. And everyone loved the ping pong table.
Wish there had been gates on lower deck to keep the little ones from having access to stairs.
This property was amazing! The location, right off the main lake, was excellent. And the covered boat dock was a huge plus. The home provided plenty of space for everyone and our kids enjoyed having the lower level to themselves. The home was clean with a well stocked kitchen and plenty of linens/towels.
There are multiple steps down from the house to the dock and fire pit area. If you have bad knees you might have a bit of an issue. However, there is a road that you can take a vehicle down to the lower area if needed.
We used Swann's marina to launch our boat. It was super easy and close proximity to the house. We would not recommend pulling your boat up to the house. It's doable but the roads leading to house have some very large potholes to navigate.
This was our first time at Douglas Lake and already planning to come back!
Overall this wonderful home is well furnished, very easy to get in & out of with a boat and had a drive way to the dock for a side by side since a family member could not navigate the stairs that is common on Douglas Lake. Fishing was great. The only thing I wish was better was the internet. The host was very responsive and even left Easter baskets for the grandchildren!

About the host
Hosted by Kandy Holt
We live in Knoxville TN and have been spending summers on the lake most of our lives. We have 3 boys and never have a shortage of their friends who love to swim, ski, and fish. We love being able to share our home with other families and small groups who like us, need a break from reality and need to breathe in God's wonderful creation.
Why they chose this property
We purchased this lake front property due to the beautiful views, year round water, peaceful neighborhood and easy access to Historic Dandridge and several other tourist attractions.
What makes this property unique
This property has more lake front acreage than any other home in Paradise Landing Resort. It is conveniently located to many tourist sites in both TN and NC, including the Great Smokey Mountains National Park.
