We had a lovely break here recently, the cottage was warm and welcoming.
We had a lovely break here recently, the cottage was warm and welcoming. Mark is the perfect host, very helpful and friendly. The only reason it is not a full 5 stars is due to the shower being in the bedroom, although this was in the description it was quite unusual(not en suite) I would also have liked more plates and cutlery as there are only 4 plates and you need more if you have a dishwasher ideally. I would definitely stay here again if the opportunity arose, and highly recommended.
We had a fantastic time in this beautiful old cottage. We had everything we needed: large well equipped kitchen, woodburner in the living room, spacious bedrooms. Nice view from the windows and Cute Bunnies in the garden :) The owner was very helpful and friendly. We will definitely go back in the future.
Vrbo was the only week link, failing to take payment in the first 2 attempts, followed by complete lack of communication regarding access procedures for the property, despite my having asked repeatedly online and via email. Eventually this was resolved on the day by contacting cottages.com instead
Otherwise, the property was truly excellent and our host utterly charming and accommodating

Everything was lovely a lovely break in good location Only a couple of little niggles.
Everything was lovely a lovely break in good location Only a couple of little niggles. The cottage information stated a welcome pack there was not one Upon asking we were told they stopped doing that due to Covid and had not resumed it This information would of been useful as we would of sourced the basics milk etc had we known and not had to go get milk etc before we could have a drink Also no instructions on how to operate oven only statement in cottage information saying the oven and TV are standard as we do not have these models it took a bit of sorting So had to mark down a little due to these issurs

Lovely cottage in reach of major lakes features whilst itself being a little off the beaten track.
Lovely cottage in reach of major lakes features whilst itself being a little off the beaten track.
Very well equipped cottage with wifi, full kitchen tools (and those little essentials easily forgotten). Spacious enough for family of 4 and dog.
Owner lives in adjoining property and is friendly and offers advice if needed. Cottage has been completed to a high standard and finishes are very good to assure any visitor that restoration has been labour of love rather than cheap "that'll do" comparisons found elsewhere in this market.
Although something of a cliché, this really felt like a home-from-home. Kids happy watching Netflix after day exploring gets the best mix for all tastes.

We had a lovely stay at The Barracks with me, my sister, my two young daughters and our two dogs.
We had a lovely stay at The Barracks with me, my sister, my two young daughters and our two dogs. The cottage was ideal. It's beautifully decorated, comfortable and warm. It was the ideal retreat for a relaxing weekend. The owner, who lives in the attached cottage was very friendly and accommodating, meeting any additional needs we had but giving us the privacy to enjoy his property without intrusion. I highly recommend the nearby pub in Great Strickland for food. The homemade pies were probably the best I have ever eaten. Lowther Castle nearby was totally magical, even in November and an absolute must if you have children.
The owner asked us to provide him with some feedback to make things even better and we would suggest that he includes the following items:
Hair dryer
Tea towels
Coffee (there was plenty of tea!)
More games, puzzles (we left one), and things for children (easy to get from a charity shop)
Matches for the fire
Tea cosy
Salt and pepper
Cooking oil
Aside from these minor things, we loved our stay and it was a high quality experience.
