WE absolutely loved our stay. The location and surrounding beauty was outstanding. We would love to bring our whole family next time and stay a little longer. We would really like to enjoy the surrounding outdoors more. Our host was wonderfully communicative.
The house was perfect in every way. It was private and the view of the cove was breathtaking. The property owner gave us so many recommendations on things to do on the island and restaurants near by. We are planning on a return trip. Highly recommend this place!
The host could not have been more responsive! The weather was mostly rainy for much of our stay and it was great to be able to tuck up and watch the changing tides from inside the house!

Thank you so much for your sweet note, Jocelyn. It meant so much to me when you said "It was just so special to be on that cove and watch the water rise and fall. It felt like a long meditation on life. I fell in love." This private cove and the wildlife that's there - the blue herons, the seals, the woods and water are quite magical. I'm so glad you felt your time was so enjoyable!! I love to hear that! You are welcome to come back any time!

As beautiful as the pictures!
We loved being next to the water and enjoyed the occasional deer that would go by. Loved sitting on the back porch and watching the tide come in and go out. Property is very peaceful and we felt we were getting away from it all. House was very nice, a little dated but overall charming. Would recommend!

Thank you, Lori! I'm so glad you had such a good time and really enjoyed your stay. It's so great to get a break and be in the woods by the water. Come back again anytime!
The host was very helpful with activities. Everything super well equipped. Wine glasses and nice dinnerware. Lots of books. The garden was amazing. Rockers on the porch. Water view was spectacular. Accessibility to the water was a bit clunky for us kayakers and be sure to check the tides! But once in, the paddling was sublime. A perfect Maine vacation!
My family (7 people) had a fantastic week together at this beautiful property to celebrate a milestone birthday. The house had plenty of space for all of us, was lovely inside and out, and had everything we needed to cook nice dinners, to enjoy some outdoor games, and to relax together. The porch on the inlet cannot be beat, and the views are maginificient. We didn't try to swim in the tidal inlet, which seemed a bit daunting, but the location is near a beach, hiking, the town, a good store, and everything we needed. Dan was a great host, available quickly by VRBO for any questions that arose, and he communicated with insider tips about the Island and the area. Very highly recommend this place!
We enjoyed a very nice stay with our family. We loved watching the tides move in and out. We especially appreciated the many windows and skylights which allowed us to see stars, sunrises, and the beauty of God's creation all around us-even while we were inside. We enjoyed exploring the area of Stonongton and Deer Isle. We spent one day in Acadia but all agreed that the trails closer to the house and shoreline just outside the door were just as pretty and more enjoyable because of the seclusion of the place. The space and layout of the house worked perfectly for our group of six. We had plenty of space. Thank you for sharing your home with us!

Loved the vacation
Awesome view; super private -- you have the whole bay for yourself (swimmable in the high tide, but the water is murky).
Nice area; easy way to Isle Au Haut or to local places (Barred Island, Quarry preserve, Lily Pond to name a few).
Very quiet and comfortable; responsive owner; stylish and clean house.
The water comes from the well, so you got to be a bit careful with the usage.
The internet is ok -- good enough to work most of the time; but easily overloaded if the kids are streaming the videos at the same tame.
Will come back again.
The Blue Arches is an outstanding property through and through--foremost in its serenity--you will be transfixed by the view from the shore and the tides, and this strange year and what it brings will seem very far away. The birds, the wildlife, the stars at night, are outstanding. Our family came away very rejuvenated. Mr. Hadley is a perfect host--with tips and advice and wonderful hospitality--the jam and coffee awaiting us were very appreciated! The house is very well equipped (terrific wifi), catching great sea breezes, and the lawn games provided by the Hadleys made for outstanding family time! Your only dilemma will be whether you would like to gaze at the cove or the lovely flower gardens. There are many hikes within easy reach from the Blue Arches--rivaling Acadia hikes but far less crowded--and day trips to Isle au Haut, Camden, and Bar Harbor would be easily accessible in a normal year. We have been renting using VRBO for many years, and Blue Arches was by far one of our most favorite properties!
My wife and I were looking for a quiet, out of the way location for our first visit to Maine. Blue Arches caught my wife’s attention with the photos and description of the property that were posted on Vrbo. It didn’t take us long to decide to book Blue Arches, and we’re so glad that we did! The photos of Blue Arches don’t lie. The place is as beautiful and as welcoming as it looks in the photos. We live in the mid-west now, but we have lived in coastal Massachusetts prior to our move to the Kansas City area, so I believe we have a pretty good idea of what an authentic, New England experience is all about. A stay at Blue Arches checks all the boxes. We have also rented homes in coastal Florida and Virginia, and I can honestly say that Blue Arches ranks at the top of the list for comfort, location, and hospitality. The host, Mike Hadley, is a pleasure to deal with. I believe a host has a great effect on a guest’s experience, and Mike made our stay at Blue Arches an unforgettable one! Mike’s check in instructions were clear and complete, making our arrival a totally stress-free process. He also provided us with information related to local attractions, stores and restaurants, which we greatly appreciated. Mike knows the Deer Isle area and Stonington very well, and he freely shares his knowledge with his guests.Blue Arches blends into the beautiful natural surroundings that include 18 acres of woodland, shoreline and ocean exceptionally well. A truly memorable experience!
My wife, sister in law, brother in law, and myself stayed at Blue Arches on Deer Isle. Blue Arches is located on the ocean front away from all the traffic/noise of everyday life.
Even being away from it all, you are only a couple of miles from the town of Stonington where there are a ton of things to do, good restaurants, shops, and a great coffee shop. Lastly Stonington is the lobster capital of Maine so you can walk the water front and watch the lobster fleet come and go.
On Deer Isle there are several hiking trails not very long but they allow you to experience the area and the wildlife of the same.
We also played golf on the island, did some fishing, and generally enjoyed our stay.
Great location with beautiful sunsets and ocean views. The house and location live up to the description on VRBO.
Highly recommend for a family or friends vacation. Plan to return next year.
Staying at Blue Arches almost felt like being in a private part of a national park. Beautiful grounds, clear and calming harbor, plenty of places to just enjoy the outdoors complete with a comfortable home to relax in. Also very close to the charming town of Stonington and exploring Deer Isle, in general, was such a cool experience. Depending on the season, checking out the nearby farmers' and artisan markets in Deer Isle and neighboring towns are a must. Not only will you find quality food and goods, you'll meet some lovely locals. Grateful to the Hadley family for hosting and being so responsive throughout our trip. All their recommendations were spot-on and we had a good experience with their contacts for kayak rentals, guided kayak trips and food. Our dog esp loved running around the shoreline at low tide and kayaking with us on the harbor - giving this place 4 paws up! In addition, had extremely stable internet during our stay since our jobs enable us to work remotely.
We have stayed in various rentals around Stonington for years. This has been our favorite to date. The house is comfortable and accommodating in every way. But the land and the abundance of outdoor seating areas to enjoy either the beautifully landscaped yard or the water view take the cake. The bonus of a fire pit out overlooking the water had us outside all the time. Thank you for sharing your home with us!
Our initial positive impression was the beautiful gardens, monarch butterflies, and the relaxing view of the cove. The house was very clean with many windows that afforded gorgeous views and was well equipped. An added nice touch was the blueberry preserves from Nervous Nellies that was left for us in the kitchen. Also, the information booklet about the house and things to do was very helpful. While browsing the bookshelves, we came across a book written by Dan's wife. After reading a couple of paragraphs, we decided to order our own copy and are anxiously awaiting its arrival. Although we only had two full days, we had time to explore Deer Isle and Stonington and also take advantage of the peace and quiet of the property and the cove. One item we would have preferred knowing ahead of time, was the fact that someone would be on the property 1 to 2 times daily to dig for clams in the cove. This did not end up being a big issue, though, since he was a very polite and friendly young man .
A beautiful property. Comfy and cozy, light filled, and with just the right amount of discoveries close by. Sunrises were spectacular.

About the host
Hosted by Dan Hadley
We were so fortunate to be able to purchase this land and work with an architect to build our family dream home. It was designed to integrate with the surrounding natural beauty—the ocean, the forest, the sun. Our kids and grandkids have loved Blue Arches and we hope your family does too.
Why they chose this property
One of the unique features of this area is the great Blue Heron, which you'll likely see when you stay. We love these majestic birds and the blue arches we built in the foyer entrance and garden patio are designed to pay them homage.
