We are glad you had a fine time and enjoyed our special place in the Mad River Valley. Thank you for taking care of the house. Thank you for your fine review. We hope your future travels bring you back to our house on the hill.
Very cool old school ski cottage with a great view, lots of rustic charm. I would recommend this place for larger groups who are looking to explore the area.
Really liked the place. Kitchen had absolutely everything, and it was close to town to stock up. Owner was very easy to contact, quick to respond, and was able to answer questions immediately. Would definitely go again if back in the area.

Thank you for the review. We love to cook and like having all the necessary tools available for ourselves and our guests.
The views cannot be beat, the open layout of the kitchen and living room are perfect for family gathering to play games, cook, share a meal and hang out. Easy access to every outdoor activity you can think of..........have stayed here before and will come back again.

Thank you for your 2 time staying with us. Glad you had a fine time and stay. You forward to your next visit.
This property is everything that it says it is. We came for our grandson's graduation. So close to his school. The place was so large. From easy check in to easy check out. This place has everything. The kids enjoyed the board games when the rain started. We would rent this house again if we are in the area again.

Lovely house, with fantastic views
We recently stayed for two nights while we were in town for a wedding. The house comfortably accommodated our extended family ( 7 adults and 4 children). We loved the large living room and kitchen, and the deck - lots of space and amazing views. Gregg was easily reachable for any questions. We would rent the house again!

Spectacular view!
Lots of comfortable seating in open living/ dining great room. Very well equipped huge kitchen. Unfortunately, the deck wasn’t safe for toddlers and the grass was too long for kids to play on. The farmer’s market nearby on Saturday am was a great recommendation.

Thank you Lyn for your review. I agree we have not focused on toddlers as we almost never get them as guests. I would kindly ask you to possibly change the rating to 4. Please. Leave the text as is.
Had a great visit with our son who goes to college nearby. Gregg was super easy to talk to and very accommodating. We had two families and there was plenty of room. Older home but lots of charm. The VIEW is OUTSTANDING! It was a little confusing with the pictures online and the lower level bedrooms but easy to sort out. Would definitely stay again.
We stayed here with our kids and grand-kids to attend a wedding of our nephew. The house worked out great as our daughter and her family ( 3 kids including a 5 week old) had the downstairs bed rooms and bathrooms and our son and wife and my husband and I had the upstairs rooms. The great room is GREAT! That is where we all spent our time together and it is spacious and open and has fabulous views of the mountains. The kitchen is extremely well stocked with plenty of dishes, pots, pans and many extras.

Thanks you very much for the kind words. We are glad you enjoyed both The Mad River Valley and our house. We hope you will consider venturing back.
This property was a wonderful place to stay during our son’s wedding weekend. The living room was spacious with a fantastic view of the mountains. It became the gathering place of our many relatives. The kitchen was well equipped to prepare many meals. When we first arrived there was an issue with the hot water but the owner was easy to reach and the problem was solved the same day. The only problem with the place is you have to provide your sheets and towels. This meant I brought 8 sets of twin sheets and towels for 8. Six other family renters in the area did not have to do this. However, I would still recommend this property for a beautiful, comfortable stay.
We booked this home for the weekend of our state softball tournament. Plenty of room for the team and an absolutely fantastic view across the valley to Mad River Glen and Sugarbush ski areas. Obviously we weren't here during the ski season, but if we need a place then we would absolutely stay here again.
We had a great time at Mountain Chalet and found the house very well stocked and organized. What amazing views from the deck. The property owner was very communicative with great advice for things to do in the area.
As stated in other reviews, the view is to die for. We spent a lot of time on the deck enjoying the scenery and taking in the sun. There were 8 of us, and plenty of room to spread out with 4 bedrooms and 2 1/2 baths. The kitchen is furnished with everything you will need. The kitchen table was our meeting area every night for games. In all my VRBO experience, I have never had an owner respond to my questions as fast as Gregg did. FYI if you are the type who likes to hang your clothes up instead of living out of a suitcase, you might want to bring some hangers. The only negative point is it was a little more worn than the pictures showed, but having had a vacation rental in NH I know by the end of a busy season a place is tired and needs that fall or spring cleaning.. It didn't impact our visit or take away from the fun we had.
Great things:
1. AMAZING view
2. Hugely spacious kitchen and living room area
3. Massive scenic deck with a grill andb
4. Close proximity to swimming holes, hiking trails, waterfalls, etc
5. Wildlife viewing of deer and possibly bears right from your deck!
6. Secluded spot
Things left to be desired:
1. There is no cooling in the home, and it was very hot (we went in June)
2. The spacious property wasn't usable because the grass was over knee high length; the secluded spot lends itself to many ticks if the grass is not low enough to use the yard
3. Certain amenities, like the hot tub room and the extra fridge, are closed in the summer.
Notes on the experience:
The property owner is communicative, which is great! As a group we wanted to make sure we took care of the property. At times it seemed difficult to do that, as the owner's stress over the property being handled properly were starkly apparent in interactions with him, almost as if he expected us to not respect the home- so the interactions often felt preemptively punitive or like we were walking on eggshells. We did feel his stressbat times, even with our sincere desire to follow the owner's regulations. The owner emailed the regulations, about a 4 page document; those interactions occurring outside of the VRBO app was not something I have experienced before, my assumption is that it was due to the abundance of information and dos and don'ts on the property. Our group included families with young children so I had to request some changes at one point before the trip, and although the owner was considering approving the change, he did not seem comfortable with young children coming with a group the size of ours. We sensed his apprehension and felt it may be more stress than it was worth to bring the kids and manage owner expectations, so based on his responses we ultimately modified the trip which unfortunately resulted in some parents and kids staying home that had been planning to come on the weekend retreat, including my own wife and kids.
We certainly enjoyed our stay and made some great memories!

Reading the review, it appears that we might be over protective of our home and apologize to your group who left it in perfect condition. True confession, every renter has always left the property in good condition. Reading the comments reminds us of when we were thinking of how we might react to someone interested in our daughter. We knew everything would turn out but know we were and are over protective.
Perhaps relating some of the history will help put things into better focus. The group of renters requested to increase the size of the group to above the number we permit, especially during the summer when we need to monitor well water use. Our concern is first about safe enjoyment of the house, including such essentials as adequate water for drinking, cleaning, etc. Before we made improvements to our water system we ran out of water some years back and don’t want that to happen again.
We are truly happy this group enjoyed the stay and will try to relax our over protective statements when working with future friends/renter. Our goal is to have everyone who comes to our house to have a truly wonderful, carefree visit.
This house was ideally located for all our mountain bike adventures in the area. We ticked off Millstone, Perry Hill and Little River in the area and then checked out the local trails and were totally impressed. Accommodations were fine for all, everybody had a bed and the kitchen is very functional and open so we could prepare our meals as a group and hang out by the fireplace after a lond day of riding. But the kicker is the view from the deck! With all the leaves changing, hanging with the boys with some fresh Lawson's brews (located just down the hill) in hand, simply can't be beat! Would have been nice to have use of the hot tub for our sore legs but you can't have it all. Bringing our own sheets and towels was something we'd never had to do before (this was our 7th annual MTB trip to VT) but it wasn't terribly inconvenient. Gregg was very responsive and helpful not to mention the excellent tip to shuttle the local trails (Evolution to Revolution is a blast!).
We're already talking about coming back next year!
Spectacular view, great location and a wonderful host
We recently stayed for a month during summer (two adults with two small kids). The location among the mountains is great. The open kitchen and living room are wonderful for families to spend time together, the deck with grill is great for eating outside, and the view is spectacular. The kids had lots of fun playing in the field in front of the house.

Well equipped, great views, good location near Waitsfield.
Our group all loved the house. We had a couple special requests, and the owner was very reasonable in discussing them with us beforehand. He was also quick to respond to emails. Everyone raves about the views, and rightfully so. We also appreciated the location, as it is less than 5 minutes from the supermarket for any last-minute essentials and has plenty of activities nearby. The owner knows the area well and gave us many suggestions for what to do in the area during the summer months. We ended up spending a lot of time just relaxing on the deck (bring a telescope if it'll be clear...stars are great from the deck!). The house has a good stereo system; speakers are mounted on the deck and inside the main living room, and you can choose where you want the sound to go. Adds to the atmosphere. We did visit sugarbush for some downhill biking (quite dangerous if you're new to it, but very fun) and drove north 45 minutes to the Waterbury and Stowe areas, which offer a lot in the way of restaurants and breweries. One of the folks in our party gets carsick on windy roads, so I'll just warn that the drive in from due west (rt 17) will take you over a mountain pass with some switchbacks if you're coming during the summer. In the winter, I believe they're closed so it's not a problem.

What a view!
My husband and I along with a group of friends stayed at this property just for a little summer getaway, and had an excellent time. If you think the view of the mountains from the deck is pretty in picture, you just have to see it in person - it's breathtaking. The house itself is very spacious and there was plenty of room for all of us. The kitchen had just about every dish, bowl, cooking utensil, pot and pan you could need. We cooked quite a few meals while we were there which was nice. The town itself is about a mile or so from the house and is small, quiet and cute but has a supermarket for whatever you may need, a few restaurants, stores, etc. I highly recommend the Waitsfield Farmers Market if you're around on a Saturday, there are so many wonderful vendors there. All in all we had a wonderful stay. Working with the owners to book the property was a breeze and we had plenty of contact info if we needed them (though we didn't, everything went great!).
