About this property
La Piana I Pian della Chiesa - nature, wine, trails, sea and shared pool
Pian della Chiesa is an idyllic 50-hectare estate immersed in a forest of pines, elms and oaks, crisscrossed by paths that run along the splendid, steep Ligurian coast. It is located in the Montemarcello Natural Park in an ideal position to explore the villages of Liguria, Tuscany and to enjoy nature with trekking or cycling. You will be able to enjoy a place among plants, vineyards and woods enriched with pet friendly services, swimming pool, barbecue and much more. Access is possible from both sides through large glass doors, on the right side there is a kitchen area and, in the center, a living area with sofa, dining table, wood stove, satellite TV and fast starlink wi-fi.
The two bedrooms to the left can be arranged as doubles or twins. The two bedrooms each have en-suite bathrooms and French windows overlooking the garden. Outside there is a delightful pergola shaded by reeds with a table and outdoor furniture for breakfast or relaxation, in front there is a beautiful fenced garden and a small vineyard.
The renovation of the Bungalow completed in 2019 was carried out using all possible solutions to increase energy efficiency: solar panels, heat pump, underfloor heating, ventilated roof, etc... You will have exclusive access to the Bungalow as well as private parking near the accommodation.
The 10X3 meter fresh water swimming pool is shared.
Flexible in-person check-in for any questions write to us we will answer immediately! The surrounding woods were once all cultivated and are interwoven with beautiful dry limestone walls, so thick that they form elevated paths. We have carefully restored these old walls and reintroduced crops, carefully chosen to suit the landscape and the situation.
You will find fruit trees scattered around the older oaks and pines and small fenced fields of vegetable gardens, artichoke plants or potatoes. The houses have also received a new green life and are self-sufficient for both electricity and hot water, making this a very eco-friendly place to stay.
We produce two excellent organic red wines “Margot” and “Margot Terrazze” and a rosé “Margottino” that you can taste in the cellar.
- Pian della Chiesa is a 50 hectares estate that sits on top of the Caprione peninsula, 900 meters from the Mediterranean and 350 meters above sea level. It has different accommodation solutions: Murella (host 6), Dolinetta (host 4), Bungalow (host 4) and Concara (host 2). It is in an ideal position for exploring the hill villages and coast of the Cinque Terre, Liguria and Northern Tuscany. Set in a Natural Park that is mainly made up of typical Mediterranean woods of umbrella pines, helms and Turkish oaks, woven with paths, and bordering the beautiful and steep coastline of Southern Liguria. It is ideally set for exploring the small villages on the coast, with delicious fish restaurants and hidden coves from which to swim. The Cinque Terre are easily reachable, with miles of walking paths on the craggy coastline, punctuated by villages clinging to the edge of the coast, with steep vineyards where the grapes are collected in mini-funicular train arrangements. Alternatively you might head east, towards the Apennines and the Apuan Alps, made of the famous Carrara marble so loved by Michelangelo. Deep valleys hold traces of the Romans and of the ancient indigenous population called the Lunis. The mountains also harbour delicious restaurants and charming villages worth exploring. The classic cities of Tuscany are also not far away, with Pisa and Lucca around an hour away, while Florence is just under 2 hours.

About the host
Hosted by Ottavio Muzi-Falconi
Farmers since 2008 after years of office work. From our grapes we have started producing an excellent natural red wine called 'Margot'. A blend of Syrah, Massaretta and Merlot vines. A small production of less than 2500 bottles integrally produced in our small underground winery. Certified Organic and no sulphates added. We produce also the 'Margot Terrazze' aged 15 months in our wood 750Lt barrel. Our extra virgin cold pressed olive oil is excellent but still negligible (55 litres only). Not yet for sale but our 250 young olives trees are growing...
We also take care of our vegetable garden, hen house and bee hives.
Why they chose this property
Ideally located within easy reach of Tuscany's famous destinations (Pisa & Lucca 1 hour/ Florence just under two), Pian della Chiesa is also an ideal base from which to explore the wild beauty of the Natural Park with its secret coves and beaches,, charming coastal villages, and forests of holm and turkey oaks, and umbrella pines. The Cinque Terre are just around the corner, with their famous villages crammed picturesquely between sea and cliff, and vineyards so steep that they have to be harvested by mini funiculars. To the east tower the Apennines and Apuan Alps, made from the shining white marble of Carrara so beloved of Michelangelo. Deeply carved valleys still have Roman remains and even vestiges of the original indigenous tribe, the Lunis.
What makes this property unique
You will be plunged in the nature surrounded by oak trees and vineyards. The area around Montemarcello is beautiful and the epitome of Mediterranean coastline - the smell of resin from the umbrella pines drifts around the limestone outcrops that hang high above the coast. Boats can take you round to secret coves at the bottom of the cliffs, and then on to little villages with wonderful fish restaurants. The Cinque Terre are at a stone's throw, with miles of walking paths on the craggy coastline, punctuated by villages clinging to the edge of the coast, with steep vineyards where the grapes are collected in mini-funicular train arrangements! Closer to home, the villages of Tellaro and Fiascherino have swimming from rocky outcrops or sandy coves and fish restaurants with local sparkling white wine. If the heat is getting too much head in opposite direction for the Apuan Alps made of white Carrara marble and dotted with medieval villages.
