About this property
Lanesville Cove Retreat Home
Our serene, open floor plan home features everything you need for a short stay or a long term get away. Our goal was comfortable and attractive- a place we like to go and share. I hope you agree. We are walking distance to everything, Lanes Cove, Plum Cove and quarries in the heart of funky, scenic Lanesville. Park your car (in your own dedicated spot). Stroll to the Package/General store, post office, Cafe and more. Convenient, yet private! At 1,100 square feet it is bigger than some three bedroom homes we have seen but as it is open with a modern, beach feel we count it as a one bedroom. The 'official' bedroom is upstairs overlooking the Cove, it features a queen and a twin and a sitting area. Downstairs there is comfortable seating for all your friends, three full couches, two dining areas, an office/desk area and a full kitchen with all the appliances (and a well stocked pantry). In the rare occasion it is too hot or cold we have that covered. We recently renovated and installed a/c through heat pumps (split systems). We also offer wifi and cable in case you need to get a bit of work done, and a full laundry. There is one granite step to enter, and stairs to the bedroom. Many guests enjoy the down couches or the high Queen airbed downstairs for overflow guests. Why we love Lanesville. If you have been there you will know-Lanesville is a funky village home to an eclectic crew, lobstermen, artists and a white and blue collar workforce. A highlight of life in the Cove is the sunsets, residents and visitors make the evening pilgrimage to the Cove wall or Plum Cove to enjoy what has been dubbed some of the best sunsets in the world. They really are! Outdoor, adventure travelers will love Lanesville too for it's easy access to the water, and quarries and Greenbelt trails-Kayaks, SUP, and mountain bikes are everywhere. Need more adventure? Halibut Point State Park is a mile down the 'Scenic road' Prefer a more sedate vacation. Park it on the deck, overlook the Cove with a good book or maybe cook up some fresh lobsters from down the street- or start the grill. Shopping in nearby Bearskin neck, or taking in a concert at the many musical venues including the Shalin Liu Center is an option. Shopping in Gloucester is fun too. Everyone will enjoy nearby adventures, including whale watches- though we have seen them right off the rocks, visiting the wolves or the big sandy beaches in town- Wingarsheek and Good Harbor. Try to save some time for Hammond Castle, the wonderful Cape Ann Museum, Brewery and distillery tours and of course great eats! All good rainy day escapes or just to try! We accept well behaved dogs... the smaller and quieter the better- let's talk about yours. Mine are perfect :) Dog deposit for cleaning. Dog friendly cove is a huge plus! Please note we rent by the week Saturday to Saturday

About the host
Hosted by Alexandra W Turner
John and I purchased this house because we love Lanesville so much! We vacationed here for years, as we like the casual vibe and the mix of friendly, interesting people from artists to lobster men and scientists. The natural beauty and lots of open space close to an intimate village make this a special place. This is not fancy, we were going for beach cottage when we fixed up and furnished our home. We tried to make our place comfortable, and clean and hope you don't work too much. Though you could with internet available. Well stocked with games and beach reading. We really want you to enjoy it as much as we do. We have our fur kids, so we understand good and bad dogs. We have one of each and will allow yours but expect you to keep your fur kids and real ones on a short leash.
Why they chose this property
We live in North Central Mass and getting to our families place in Falmouth (the other Cape was getting to daunting with traffic). We wanted an escape that we could enjoy that was not over run with summer people. This place is well situated close to everything, with parking, very comfortable and you don't have to fret about it. Close enough not to spend a day getting there but it was 'away' enough to be really relaxing.
What makes this property unique
Size and comfort is our forte. We want you to really enjoy it so we stock up and leave plenty of room for stretching out. The best part of the Cove is the warm sheltered water to dabble in. It is not the gorgeous albeit popular beach like Good Harbor or Cranes. Those are close enough to go to, but at the end of the day I take my glass of wine and go sit on the rocks and watch what National Geographic referred to as one of the best places anywhere to watch the sunset. Kayak magazine wrote up the cove too as a 'best of' place to set out. I also enjoy walking around the 'block' ocean side of course-the whole shoreline from the breakwater is conservation and people go sit up to look over Hampton and watch the fireworks Saturday and Wednesday nights. Feeling ambitious, kayak straight across to Wingarsheek. Lanesville is like going back in time, very relaxing.
