Beautiful villa in outstanding location, 10X5m pool, Wifi, stunning views

Nestled on the banks of the Mirna Valley, with a stunning view up to the medieval hilltop town of Motovun, Casa Lucia is 4 bedroom villa with swimming pool.

All bedrooms (2 x double, 2 x twin) have en-suite facilities On the ground floor is twin bedroom with en-suite shower room. On the first floor are a twin bedroom with en-suite shower room, a double bedroom (180cm bed) with ensuite bath and shower and the Master bedroom (180cm bed) with en-suite bath and shower. The Master bedroom also has a private balcony with patio swing chair. All bedrooms are fitted with mosquito nets/ fly screens on both terrace doors and windows.

The living room has a traditional Istrian open fireplace, satellite TV, DVD player and leads out to a shaded terrace on the west side of the house with outdoor sofa and chairs and table tennis. The main dining terrace is off the well-equipped kitchen and both are close to the 10m x 5m swimming pool with wide Roman steps. Free WiFi.

With panoramic views, the house is positioned at the end of a short un-asphalted track, passing by 3 other properties to its secluded location in the forest covered hills of the Mirna valley.

3km to Motovun with restaurants, cafes and shops, the house is also within walking distance of Agroturizam Toni for an evening meal and just 400m from award-winning Vina Fakin for wine tasting. 25 km drive takes you to Novigrad and the nearest beach for swimming in the crystal clear waters of the Adriatic, and with a 5 minute drive to Livade you are in the heart of truffle land with restaurants serving this prized delicacy.

A great first time in Istria

We had a wonderful stay at Casa Lucia. The house is very spacious, the view of the small village of Motovun is lovely. There is another villa right above you can here from time to time, which was fine to us. It's a truffles region, which we fully enjoyed. We think about coming back! Thanks for having us.

Lovely house and area

The house was as listed although some of the kitchen utensils were quite worn. We had feared how hot the house would be during the night and the amount of mosquitoes. None of those two things turned out as a challenge. The bedrooms were easy to cool down at night after sunset if the shades had been used during the day. Loved the large clothing storage in each room making it easy to get unpacked and organized. The house is situated so it is possible to walk to Motovun through the wine fields (4 km walk each way and fairly easy to find your way). We highly recommend the local winery 500 meters from the house, their restaurant in Motovun and the Tomaz winery for a wine tasting. We did encounter a few issues with the house - two of the toilets not working, WiFi running out of data and pool in need of cleaning. Our contact Caroline was extremely responsive and tried to resolve the issues. The pool couldn’t be used the last day though due to the poor water quality which is of course quite unfortunate when you have seven days in a house.

Thanks so much for taking the time to review your stay at Casa Lucia and great that you adopted the mediterranean system of keeping the shutters closed during the day to keep the sun out and then opening at night for the cool air. This is the most environmentally friendly way to keep a pleasant temperature for sleeping. Yes, we love Tomaz winery. Next time you visit I will give you some more secret wineries and an olive oil tasting farm. I’m sorry for the issues you experienced. Regarding the toilets, they were functional, but while we were waiting for new parts to be installed, the valves on the side of the cistern had to be turned off temporarily after use to avoid continuous water flow — I appreciate your patience with this. As for the WiFi, we believe the data limit may have been exceeded by previous guests streaming or downloading, but we upgraded the system and router by the second day of your stay to ensure a more stable connection. Finally, I’m very sorry to hear that you felt the pool couldn’t be used on your last day. We always aim to maintain the highest standards of water quality, and I regret if it fell short at the end of your visit. It was a delight to meet and host you and we’re grateful for your feedback and hope that the issues did not spoil your holiday enjoyment. With best wishes.

The House, pool and area were absolute great! We were there for two weeks with our 4 sons from 8 to 16 years and the house was perfect with the separate sleeping rooms with own bathrooms. There was no disturbance from each other and we as parents had the "master room" with the small terace that is invisible from the other rooms, the garden/pool or the neighbour house.The house has a wide open living area and kitchen with big windows and is exactly like you can see it in the pictures. We had absolute nothing to complain - the pool was good with low chlorine and as pool owners we know how hard it is to keep the values OK in warm times. We had nearly 40C air temperature and the pool was intense used for playing, sports and chilling.As expected, there were many mosquitoes outside at dusk and at night, but we were well prepared with “technical equipment.” However, you should definitely be careful when ventilating and keep the nets closed in all bedrooms and bathrooms. Then the insects won't be a problem.However, anyone who comes without incense coils, vaporizers, or insect spray in these latitudes has only themselves to blame if they get bitten - that's nature! And you're right in the middle of it: All around you is impenetrable forest—butcher's broom (Ruscus aculeatus) and blackberries prevented an “adventure attempt”. But if you stay on the paths, everything is fine.The way to the house is also a small adventure and you should not drive a lowered sports car.Great!

Hoher Erholungsfaktor

Gut ausgestattetes Ferienhaus mit wundervoller Aussicht aufs Mirnatal und auf Motovun. Schöne Küche. Große Räume, bequeme Betten, alle Annehmlichkeiten in der Küche. An den Fliesenfugen der Duschen leider teils Schimmel.Pool riesig, sehr sauber und gut gewartet. Die Pooliegen bequem, die Auflagen aber leider verschlissen. Der Zustand der Matten entsprach keinesfalls dem Gesamtzustand der Villa, und auch die Badetücher für den Pool waren teilweise in sehr schlechtem Zustand. Die Leuchten im Pool liefen leider bis 1:00, was uns im Zimmer störte und wir auch aus ökolog. Gründen als unnötig erachteten. Schöner gemauerter Grillkamin. Reichlich getrocknetes Kaminholz vorhanden. Die Moskitos waren auf alle Fälle ein Thema, wenngleich die Schlafräume durch Gelsengitter abgeschirmt. Leider im Erdgeschoß nirgends Gitter an den vielen Fenstern und Glastüren vorhanden, der abendliche Aufenthalt, im Freien unmöglich, in den Gemeinschaftsräumen ebenfalls nicht lange erträglich.Trotz abends geschlossener Türen und Fenster waren die untertags hereinfliegenden Mücken so lästig, dass wir uns manchmal bereits früh in die mückensicheren Schlafzimmer begeben mussten. Ein bis zwei Fliegengittertüren im Erdgeschoß wären wirklich fein gewesen. Das bereitgestellte WLAN ist nur für Geduldige mit kleinen Ansprüchen an Datenmengen und der Bereitschaft, auch mal längere Ausfälle zu tolerieren, passend. Wegen der Mängel in Bezug auf Moskitonetze Erdgeschoß und schlechtes Internet ein Punkt Abzug.

Dear Ursula. With apologies for my late reply to your review. We value all feedback from guests as this helps us prepare for the new season. In response to a couple of your points, we are sorry about the poor condition of the cushions for two pool loungers and some pool towels at the end of the season, we have taken note and will change them this winter. In terms of the pool light being left switched on until 1am, we fully agree with your comment. A previous guest must have requested this unusual time as we normally always have them switched off earlier. We would kindly ask our guests to tell the pool maintenance staff (if around when they visit) or to contact Caroline Hopkins who looks after the property. There is no easy answer to mosquitoes given the outdoor nature of the property other than plug-in mosquito repellent aparatus (which are provided and we find work well as a deterrent), incense or essential oils. All bedrooms and bathrooms are equipped with mosquito nets. And we will certainly be in touch with our Internet provider to see if there is a way to increase the service. Toller Aufenthalt in der Casa Lucia

Wir hatten einen tollen Aufenthalt zu siebt. Der Pool wurde mehrmals gereinigt und hatte eine angenehme Temperatur. Das Haus war bei Ankunft sehr sauber. Auch die Ausstattung der Küche war sehr gut. Mithilfe einiger Anti-Moskito-Hilfsmittel und der Moskitonetze an den Fenstern waren die Stechmücken auch kein großes Problem. Musik am Pool schien auch kein Problem zu sein. Insgesamt ein toller Aufenthalt!

Ett underbart hus med magisk utsikt

Huset är rymligt och trevligt, väldigt välutrustat. Poolen är stor och välskött. Men det mest fantastiska var utsikten upp mot Motovun, den kunde vi inte se oss mätta på. Det kan vara bra att veta att huset ligger lite avsides, det är kuperat och inte så lätt att gå till byn, vägen ner till huset är brant och kurvig så viktigt att köra försiktigt.

Tolles Haus mit kleinen Einschränkungen

Vorweg möchte ich sagen, dass das Haus im Original genau so ist wie auf den Bildern. Toller und gut aufgeteilter Schnitt der einzelnen 4x Schlafzimmer jeweils mit einem eigenen Bad und abgetrennter Flurtüre. Sehr tolle Küche mit vollwertiger Ausstattung, und einem ansprechenden Wohnzimmer. Während unserer Reisezeit waren die Außenbereiche aufgrund von Moskitos nicht zu benutzen, liegt wahrscheinlich an viel Nässe, gepaart mit warmen Temperaturen, sowie der regenwaldartige Umgebung. Für die Anfahrt zum Haus wird definitiv ein Fahrzeug mit etwas Bodenfreiheit benötigt, die Zufahrt führt über einen Schotterweg sowie ein abschüssiges Bergabstück zum Haus. Das Haus bietet einen super Blick auf Motovun, für die meisten Aktivitäten ist man aber auf das Auto angewiesen. Die Lager ist eher ländlich und lädt in der Ruhe des nichts zur Entspannung ein.

Toller Urlaub

Wir hatten 2 tolle Wochen in Motovun. Das Haus ist sehr schön. Wir verreisten mit 4 Erwachsenen und 2 Kindern. Die Kommunikation mit Caroline war hervorragend. Sie hat immer sofort geantwortet und sich gekümmert. Aufgrund der Hitze ist der Pool leider schnell grünlich geworden! Eine kurze Meldung und es wurde sich gekümmert. Das Haus liegt sehr idyllisch, dadurch jedoch auch ziemlich abgelegen. Zum Meer sind es 30 Minuten. Der kleine Supermarkt in Motovun ist ok, jedoch nicht überragend. Zum Einkauf muss man nach Porec oder Pazin. Das Einzige über das sich die Besitzer Gedanken machen sollten, ist die Installation einer Klimaanlage. Bei Temperaturen Mitte 30 Grad kann man die Hitze auch mit verschlossenen Fensterläden nicht draußen halten. Alles in Allem hatten wir eine tolle Zeit!

Super Ferien

Das Häuschen müsste in die Kategorie 4-5 Sterne gestellt werden. Top gepflegt. Wir haben zusätzlich eine große Pfanne und eigene Küchenutensilien mutgenommen. Das hilft ;-) es ist zwar grundsätzlich alles da aber bei acht Personen kocht es sich mit eigenen Tools leichter ;-)

Traumhaus in Traumlage

Sehr schönes, gut ausgestattetes Ferienhaus in Hanglage mit großzügigem Pool und Aussicht ins Mirna-Tal und auf Motovun. Sehr freundliche und kompetente Betreuung durch Caroline. Die Lage ist ideal für Ausflüge in die Region. Sehr schöne Wander- und Radtouren, Städtebesichtigungen oder Strandaufenthalte. Sehr gut gefallen hat uns die Trüffelsuche mit Miro in Motovun. Die Temperaturen in der ersten Oktoberhälfte waren sehr angenehm, zum Baden zeitweise schon etwas kühl.

Needs air conditioning and mosquito control

I would have given this villa more than 3 stars, but it has two major drawbacks that the owners seem to be reluctant to improve. Firstly, the house is hot – the idea that stone houses are cool in summer is a myth - 500 cm of stone has the same insulating effect as 1.5cm of rockwool. The solution is air conditioning. In response to comments by previous guests, the four bedrooms now have fans (1 broken), but they remain hot, while the beds are provided with sheets and no blankets. Secondly, the area has a lot of mosquitoes. During our stay, everyone was bitten many times – so it would be a good idea if the owners (or their agent) provided fly spray for each of the bedrooms. A better solution would be to provide electric UV insect zappers, which are not expensive. The pool, which is only 1.5 meters deep, has several loungers. In view of the hot sunny weather, it would be a good idea to provide parasols. The nearest shop is in Motovun is a good 10 minutes’ drive away on winding mountain roads. In practice, this means that by car it takes at least 30 minutes each way to reach the nearest supermarkets. The local shop in Motovun is fine for food and most things. Visitors would feel more welcome if the owners arranged for certain basic items to be provided for newly arrived guests – toilet paper, fly spray, matches (for the BBQ), salt, sugar, tea/coffee, dishwasher tablets, washing machine powder – things often left by the previous guests, but not worth taking with them. Finally, Caroline, the agent was punctual and efficient when sending e-mails for payment, but it took 5 days before she sent us the code for the box that held the house key. After no response to e-mails, sms, or the telephone, we finally got the key code less than 24 hours before we were due to arrive at the house

Dear David, We’re sorry your holiday was impacted. Until this summer no-one had ever complained about the house being too hot. However, the weather in Istria this summer was exceptionally hot. In general we find that if the shutters on the south side of the house are kept closed during the day the house remains cool on account of the thick stone walls and tilled floors. For the 2020 season we will ensure that all bedrooms have fans and we’ve taken on board your suggestion and will now provide blankets in addition to sheets and duvets. We’re reluctant to install air con partly because of environmental concerns but primarily because it’s not required 99% of the time. Istria also experienced a particularly wet May which led to an explosion in the mosquito population this summer. We have found the most effective solution to be plug-in vapour repellents (combined with repellent spray when outdoors). A plug-in vapour repellent will now be provided in each bedroom. We do provide an initial supply of basic items like toilet paper, washing-up liquid, dishwasher tablets and the like but find everyone’s requirements and preferences are different and most guests don’t like any foodstuffs to be left behind from the previous guests. Finally, because shade can always be found around the pool by way of the trees and covered terraces we haven’t felt a need to provide parasols. Thank you for the feedback. Graeme (Owner)

Fabulous villa - lovely location

With four children and four adults the villa was perfect for our needs. The villa is well equipped and tastefully decorated - with great outdoor eating areas. The pool was lovely and the location rurally picturesque. Motovun is very beautiful and clear from every window! We had asked about whether there was air conditioning and were reassured that the villa remained cool and therefore wasn’t needed. We didn’t find this and the evening heat was particularly challenging with young children sleeping at night and consequently our quality of sleep! This is probably the one thing that would prevent us returning. The mosquitoes and ants were in force too so remember the bug spray ! Netting at the windows might help the heat to allow you to leave the windows out while avoiding being eaten alive!

We have taken on board your comments about netting and would like to let future guests know that all windows and terrace doors in all bedrooms are now fitted with retractable mosquito/fly screens.

Sehr schönes Haus in toller Umgebung

Wir haben uns in dem Haus sehr wohl gefühlt. Wunderschöner großer Pool mit herrlichem Blick auf Motovun. Wir wollen wieder kommen!

Die Villa war bei allen Leistungen hervorragend

Wir waren 14 Tage in der Villa. Das Haus mit der Küche, der Aufteilung der Zimmer (immer separat mit Bad/Toilette) war super. Der Blick auf Motovun und den Tal /Fluss Mirna hat uns jeden Tag begeistert. Wir waren auch sehr froh, dass die Villa eine ruhige Lage hatte. So konnten wir den Tag und die Abende schön verbringen. Der Pool ist ausreichend groß und hat uns viel Spaß gemacht.

Great place for a family holiday

We had a wonderful time during our two weeks stay in Motovun. The house is well equipped and lays in an absolutely calm sorrounding in the middle of the local wine hills. We have been visiting several small coastal villages and had a wonderful time.
