About this property
Summertime at Creek! Birds, ducks, close to Pigeon Forge
Cottage by the Creek is an original 1930’s renovated farmhouse on Walden's Creek with our back porch only feet from it. The pictures are accurate in scale. The roads are flat and easy particularly in winter - no getting snowed in! It is private, peaceful and plenty of wildlife comes by early in the morning for a drink. The ducks come twice a day like clockwork. If you are up early, you may see the turkey family come by or "Granddaddy Long Legs", our resident blue heron. No matter the time of day, the birds are everywhere and we have feeders out for them for you to enjoy bird watching!
The creek is shallow enough to wade, explore and hunt for crawdads and small fish and you can relax to the sound of a babbling brook right outside the back door. Yes, you can try to fish it in the deeper pools! We are pet friendly so bring your dog to enjoy the creek as much as you will. Of course, nighttime is beautiful with the firepit and the view of the stars; for those who love to camp, you will feel like you are camping under the stars in the woods...but your comfortable bed is just inside!
The home itself is a farmhouse that was located years ago to this property and we have completely renovated it. It is cozy and as peaceful inside as it is outside. We have added large windows across the back to be able to see the view from both the back bedroom and the living/dining area. It feels like you are entering a secret cottage tucked away in the trees and yet, you are only minutes from Pigeon Forge at the Wears Valley/Parkway intersection. It could not be more convenient to the activities in the area. For example, the popular Island and Ferris wheel in Pigeon Forge is just 10 minutes from the home and the pool membership we have for guests at Honeysuckle Resort is just 10 minutes to the south in Wears Valley.
The cottage is all one level so no stairs to deal with and we have a yard for the kids to play in. One important rule for the creek is nothing can be removed from the creek such as rocks, wildlife, etc. This area is protected by the National Forest Reserve.
As a 2024 update, we have updated the couch and have added two comfy chairs that rock and swivel to the living room - pictures coming. We have a reverse osmosis water machine under the kitchen sink, so you have filtered water. The coffee pot will take both K-cups and regular coffee and we stock coffee and some tea there along with many spices for cooking in when you want to. For the kiddos, we have a foosball table in the back bedroom suite area, many books and movies and Playstation games, a TP tent and badminton set. So, for the days when you want to stay in and relax, you are set.
We hope this cottage will delight our guests! It has been a lot of work and we feel like we should have a fixer upper show but it has been worth it to see the cottage literally come alive with the vision we had when we first walked in. Enjoy!

We had a wonderful time.We stayed there a few years ago and decided to go this time for our 48th wedding anniversary!Very clean, has everything you need.So peaceful and restful. I would have loved to have stayed another weekThere owners are very helpful and nice.My little Dog Molly also loved it , she liked watching the ducks. Can’t wait to visit again.Thank youBev Ortiz
This is our 2nd time staying here and it does not disappoint. Always enjoy the ducks and birds and this time we saw an otter and a bunny. This is a cozy and charming place to spend a few days and enjoy the area without all the crowds of the summer and fall.
Love this place. It is so quiet and peaceful with large windows overlooking the creek. Extremely close to all the things we love to do around gatlinburg
It was one of the best places I ever stayed. I just loved the outdoor space, so relaxing. The inside was amazingly well kept, so clean, everything we could have needed was supplied.
The pictures do not do this cottage justice - the whole house is beautiful and so clean! We loved our stay here, our only disappointment was that we had so much going on that we weren't able to enjoy the property itself enough. Would definitely love to rent it again in the future for longer. The ducks and blue heron visited us every day. Close to Pigeon Forge restaurants and attractions.
Very charming place to stay, there was so much detail that our hosts implemented to make us feel right at home, they are very sweet people. This cottage is in a very convenient and gorgeous setting right by the water, we didn’t have to watch tv with all of the beautiful wildlife to see from the big back porch (this was our favorite spot) the ducks were a hoot. We will definitely be returning in the near future.
Thia is our 2nd stay at this property. The lo ation is great, close to attractions. The creekside location and visits by geese and ducks was a treat.

Happy to have you again over the Spring Break timeframe! The duck families continue to grow each year as a new brood is born. This is about the timeframe that you see the little ones following after the mama.

About the host
Hosted by Rick and June Barbas
This is our 4th property. Rick and I seem to have a knack for the vacation business - most likely because we love to travel ourselves and we grab ideas from literally every place we stay. We keep adding these ideas to our properties and the feedback from our guests is they have never stayed somewhere with as many amenities they can actually use. We don't scrimp on the kitchen - we cook when we travel so I put everything in there I would want in cookware quality, spices, gadgets. We have lots of kids and grand kids so we try to add things that children like as well. So fun! We think we are big kids ourselves and like to stay that way. Experiences mean more to us than things so the properties we have are for making memories that last. We very much want our guests to have that special getaway and to make it as perfect as we possibly can.
Why they chose this property
I fell in love with the creek being right there off the back porch. Listening to it in the early morning is so peaceful that Rick and I decided this would be a place we would want to have in retirement. The original farmhouse was a complete renovation with some nice surprises along the way like the original wood ceilings. We felt the investment was worth it. We are just minutes from the parkway, groceries, etc. but it feels like we are off in the quiet woods when we are home. We want to share this with others and make it full family friendly so the dogs can come too and enjoy wading in the creek. This is not a traditional log cabin like all the others; it is a unique cottage, warm and inviting in every way.
What makes this property unique
The backyard with the creek is the obvious highlight of Cottage by the Creek and we built a large fire pit to burn real wood - feels like you are camping. When we renovated, we worked to bring the outside in as much as possible. The back bedroom is now double in size to include a King bed and sitting area for games and TV but also to see the outdoors - I put a large picture window in so it feels like you are outside. The wood in the home is original and quite beautiful. We made the decor like a rustic farmhouse with some nods to our black bear community! It is super comfortable! The kitchen is large and has a line of sight right into the living area. The front yard is large and flat - perfect for your furry companions to enjoy and I have a badmitton set for fun! If you love watching birds, we have many varieties on the creek. Cardinals, finches, woodpeckers, geese, duck, egrets, turkeys have all been seen...look for the egret in the early morning. He is spectacular.
