Smoky Mountain Hideaway is a large, open concept log home situated on 7 1/2 private acres about a half mile from the National Park. While the spectacular views of the Smoky Mountains are the main attraction, the house has 3,200 square feet of living space and offers a lot of individual privacy for larger groups. It is great as a final destination for sitting on the porch, watching the mountains and visiting with friends and family or as home base for other activities such as riding the Dragon. If you're very lucky you might even see a bear or bobcat from the porch in addition to the deer, coyotes and wild turkeys that are more frequent.
It is 5 minutes from great hiking trails inside the Park, fly fishing along Abrams Creek or paddling on Lake Chilhowee. It's only 10-15 minutes to the Tail of the Dragon, the Foothills Parkway and the Look Rock observation tower. If you're hankering for the crowds, it's an 80-90 minute drive to Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg along the Foothills Parkway. The views from the Foothills Parkway are amazing!
The house sleeps 10 comfortably in the 4 bedrooms and there's plenty of privacy with 3 modern baths. We also have a futon with extra bedding in the downstairs living area. The house has 160 feet of covered porches facing the mountains which are equipped with ceiling fans and plenty of outdoor seating including two porch swings. A fully paved driveway and two car garage make it ideal for motorcycle groups riding the Tail of the Dragon and the Foothills Parkway. There's also room on the grass to park trailers
There's a gas grill and extra propane tanks in the garage for outdoor cooking and the large gourmet kitchen is fully outfitted, except for food. We have a large fully equipped laundry room as well. Many guests say the kitchen and house are the best equipped vacation rentals they've ever stayed in.
Because of our remote location there is no cell phone service around the cabin unless you have AT&T cell service. We also offer free WiFi and land line phone service in the house. You can do WiFi calling as well.
After a hard day of sightseeing or riding the Dragon you can kick back and watch your favorite shows or movies on the big screen TV's in the two living areas using your preferred streaming service. We also have lots of old movies for the DVD players as well. Many guests prefer to sit on the fully covered full-length porch, listen to the whippoorwills, coyotes and Mill Creek while they watch the gorgeous mountain sunsets. There are also books, magazines and tons of board games. We have a rustic natural stone fire ring and a wood pile up behind the cabin for an evening of S'mores or story telling.
Although it is not ADA compliant, the main floor of the house is easily accessible for people with limited mobility. The driveway, garage and main floor of the house are on the same level with no steps. The house is not baby proof, but we do have a high chair, portable safety gates, a booster seat, step stools and a folding porta-crib.
We have a liberal cancellation policy.
No pets and no smoking are allowed inside the house.
We try to be very responsive as we're not a corporate vacation rental management company.

About the host
Hosted by David Drummond
My wife and I are retired and live in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. We purchased this cabin in 2016 as a vacation home because we love being in the mountains. We enjoy the outdoors and activities such as hiking, bird watching and just sitting on the porch and watching the ever changing sky. If you look through our gallery, you'll see a few of the sunrise/sunset photos we've taken from the porch.
Why they chose this property
We love the spectacular mountain views, the open layout of the house and the peace and quiet. With all the windows and covered porches you can have a very enjoyable day just sitting on the porch and watching the mountains and sky even if it's a rainy day. The location is also very private and gives us a real sense of being away from it all. During the spring and summer the whippoorwills serenade you every night and sometimes the coyote too. You can hear Mill Creek tumbling down the mountainside almost year 'round and the wind blowing through the pines at any time.
What makes this property unique
If you want to come and relax in a modern log cabin surrounded by nature with spectacular mountain views this is the place for you. We have free wifi if you feel you have to stay in touch.
